We apologize for any confusion! Mission Statement: St. Philip Neri School is dedicated to fostering Catholic faith and academic excellence. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, students are provided the opportunity to develop their gifts and talents while striving to become active members of their church. A foundation for future success and life-long learning is provided in partnership with the family, parish and school community.

Making the Most of the Advent Season www.scholastic.com/bf/stphilipnerischool6 It may be hard to believe, but this coming Sunday marks the beginning of the Advent season. With all the commercialization of Christmas constantly bombarding us everywhere we turn, its nice to have this breath of fresh air to remind us just what we are waiting for, just what all the preparations are for. Our Book Fair online campaign runs December 2 to December 15 so you can order some books for Christmas! For those tech-savvy folks, you can download the Scholastic Book Fair App to your phone! Our in-house Book Fair will run from December 11 to December 15. Family Night is scheduled for December 13 from 5-7 PM. Thanks to our wonderful librarian, Ms. Doreen, for organizing this wonderful event! PARISH EVENTS December 10 Breakfast with St. Nicholas Sponsored by the Boy Scouts December 15 Keep Christ in Christmas Contest Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus This Sunday's first reading comes from the Book of Isaiah and asks us to look into our hearts and ask, "Why do you let us wander, Oh Lord, from your ways, and harden our hearts so that we fear you not?" This passage is a simple, yet firm reminder that we must do the waiting, but not in the way we may think is best, but in God's timing and in his plan. So, if the stress of the Christmas season has already gotten to you, fear not! It's only Advent, and that is a time to slow down, reflect on the blessings of the previous year, and prepare for the greatest gift that is to come! Congratulations to Sofia Horton for winning the November raffle drawing from our Potbelly s and Five Guys spirit nights! December 31 New Year s Eve Bash Sponsored by SPN Parish to help with the Capital Campaign Sofia won a $20 gift card to Potbelly s! Thanks to everyone for your support on our spirit nights! See flyers in this newsletter for more details.

Come to St. Philip Neri s New Year s Eve Bash! Start the New Year 2018 with evening Mass and then celebrate up to midnight with good food, drink, and live music! Coordinate with other parents and get a table for 8! Purchase a whole table and get a $100 discount (8 tickets for $700). All proceeds go to support the restoration of our church. See the flyer within this newsletter! Scrip Sales Buy your Gift Cards now! Need a gift card to give to a loved one at Christmas? Order through our SCRIP program today! We have two events happening this Sunday, December 3! ADVENT WREATH MAKING & FELLOWSHIP from 9 AM to 1 PM (after each Mass) in the Parish Hall. The cost is $15 for the greens, candle holder and 4 candles. Bring additional decorations to use and to share: ribbon, pinecones, berries, ornaments, baby s breath, etc. Refreshments included. Bring your children! Linthicum Christmas Tree Lighting at 6 PM at the corner of Camp Meade Road and Maple Road. Our SPN Chorus will be performing. What a great way to start ADVENT and the Christmas Season! Mr. Knapp visited our Girl Scouts and discussed his job as a paramedic. He demonstrated the use of the blood pressure machine and how to hear for a heartbeat. The Girl Scouts thank Mr. Knapp for his visit!

Thanks for helping those less fortunate with donated items! Thanks to our wonderful St. Philip Neri Families we are able to deliver all of these brown bag lunches to those who are hungry in our area. Mamma Joe keeps smiling as she picks up our monthly brown bag donations. This month was a little low, but maybe next month we can fill that trunk! Mark your calendars for Jan. 5 WOW! We surpassed our goal of 1000 items with 1374 in our food drive! Many thanks to the 7 th grade class for spear-heading this campaign. The class with the highest total was the 8 th grade with 491 cans. Thanks to everyone for their donations! Pictures from PREK celebrating their Thanksgiving Feast!

Thanks to all of the volunteers for our Fall Craft Fair! Special thanks to Angelina Wiseman for all her hard work organizing this event! Our Special Donor Recognition (Lead Gift Event) was a success. Thanks again for the SPN Chorus students performing at this event! Thanks to Mr. Lathroum for setting up all of the equipment and leading the choir. Thanks to all who helped with the decorations! Looks like our Spirit Night at Five Guys was a lot of fun! Thanks to all of the families who have supported our Spirit Nights! The extra money the Home & School Association makes from all of these nights really adds up over the school year. In return, the HSA are able to give back to the school with a nice donation to go towards upgrades in our technology and other needs of our school.

The Sunday after Thanksgiving kids from our soccer program organized a game with our priests! Check out Father DeAscanis and Father Isaac in action!
