Memory Care 6568 Central Park Blvd, Abilene, TX 79606 (325) 400-7760 November 2018 MC Associates Angie Smerz Interim Executive Director Shelley Drennan Sales & Marketing Director Rachael Valfre Lifestyles Director Edward Smith Culinary Director Luann Akin Business Director Kevin Townsend Regional Maintenance Director Words from our Executive Director Happy Thanksgiving to the residents and families that share life together here at Lyndale Abilene Memory Care. So quickly another month has passed. I woke up and it was fall! I could not be more excited because Fall just so happens to be my favorite season. I don't know if it is the incredible food, parades and the exciting football games, or sharing thanks with those I love or the cool crisp air, but I love this time of year. The month of November gives us time to pause and express our gratitude for family, friends, health and home before the hustle of the New Year. Our early settlers realized their survival was a gift and that a bountiful harvest was an additional blessing. This time of tradition and sharing reminds us to give thanks for the riches we enjoy, but more importantly, to be grateful for the gift of life and the meaning of life experience. How can we show gratitude? We can live with intention and enjoy every opportunity available. We can accept responsibility for our lives and inspire others through our actions. Daily I remind myself to keep an open mind and joyfully embrace each day. Another great way to show thanks is to talk lovingly, share your talents and keep promises, but most importantly remember to say THANK YOU. The result will be a renewed energy and strengthened spirit. Thank you for being part of our Lyndale Abilene Memory Care family and thank you for welcoming me with open arms. Yours truly, Angie Smerz, Interim Executive Director Exceptional Senior Living
Flag Raising Our communities were able to enjoy an amazing flag ceremony, before the rains started, to honor the new flag posts that were placed by our beautiful new "Lyndale" sign. It was such an honor to watch men from Dyess Air Force base allow one of our retired military residents to join in on the flag raising. The icing on the cake was listening to the residents sing "God Bless America" while watching these beautiful flags wave in our Texas wind. We are a blessed nation and our residents are proud Americans! We are growing! Veterans Celebration Coming from a military family myself, I love watching those that have served our country be honored for their valor and watch them humbly accept the recognition given. We want to invite everyone to join us in honoring our veteran residents and their families with a beautiful dessert reception. Our reception will take place at 5:30 p.m. on November 12, 2018. We will have a wonderful speaker who will remind of us of the importance of honoring those who serve and sing patriotic songs led by one of Lyndale Memory Care s very own! Many of our residents like Mr. William 'Geoff ' Cline, pictured left, are proud to tell you that they served their country and what an honor it was to serve. Please join me in recognizing our service men, women, and their families on this wonderful evening! Lyndale Cooking Club We have been blessed with great friendship from our Lyndale Abilene IL/AL community. Every week they join us in making AND eating some scrumptious treats! We laugh, share, and just plain enjoy the company! We are excited to be filling our community with amazing families who are quickly becoming friends! Our goal here at Lyndale Abilene Memory Care is for residents to make this community their home. In order for that to happen, we, as associates, make it our mission to make everyone feel welcomed and loved. As the residents interact with each other and grow relationships, we see the plans for this wonderful community being fulfilled. All of us here at Lyndale Abilene Memory Care look forward to the many individuals who walk through our doors and allow us to say 'Welcome Home.' Day in the Life... Our days are filled with fun and friends! It's such a joy to see all of the wonderful parts of our community being used by the residents; hearing the conversation and laughter makes for a lovely atmosphere.
Gifts that Keep on Giving Gratitude is a natural part of the holiday season. Especially around Thanksgiving, efforts by certain family members and friends that normally might go unnoticed seem to be more pronounced than usual. So how do you express your gratitude? There are a multitude of thoughtful gestures you can make for your loved ones that say, thank you, without overdoing it. Here are a few examples: Offer to do a specific task that you know your loved one doesn t enjoy doing. This might mean sweeping, grass cutting or washing dishes. Anything goes. Give him or her something of significance you think your loved one might enjoy as much as you have. Explain the significance behind the gift and why it has meaning to you. Compliment your loved one on something you ve always admired. This display of gratitude might focus on one s bravery or ability to speak his or her mind; an amazing musical talent; being the most organized person you ve ever met; or even having the recipe for green bean casserole that knocks your socks off every time you eat it. Whatever you think is appropriate is likely acceptable. Share a memorable moment with your family and friends about the impact they have had on your life. The more specific, the better. Take your loved one on a special adventure something that person might have always wanted to do but has never actually done. And if none of these options will do, the good, old-fashioned simplicity of a long hug, coupled with a thank you for being you, is a heartfelt gesture that speaks volumes.
