PMRV NEWS May/June, 2013 As the month of April comes to an end, we still have to wonder, Where is Spring? Our plans of doing some gardening and spending some outdoor time has been put on hold until it reaches warmer temperatures. A group from the St. Paul High School came to entertain on the afternoon of April 2 nd. It was great practice for them in preparation for their big High School Concert. Many thanks to this young group of students for sharing their talents with us! We always enjoy having Ed and Jolene Born as guests! Ed plays guitar and Jolene plays clarinet while also singing old time tunes and gospel favorites. Jolene often stops by of a morning before heading to work to have a cup of coffee and a visit with our residents. Thanks to both of them for their awesome sense of humor, too! You both are always welcome here! Jolene Ed On April 5 th The Swinging Be-Bops set up in the dining room for some lively entertainment. Hoolahoops and air guitars were also brought out for everyone to show off! Who could help it? The music was loud and fun! High School drum solo High School soloist
May/June Birthdays Just Monkeying Around!!!! On April 19 th, Ladonna escorted Tom Burress, Sissy Cochran, and Gerald Johnson to the Planetarium in Greenbush. They attended the film, Star Life Cycle. The film explained about the life cycle of the stars and about how the sun has reached half of its life cycle. Plans were to also go to The Observatory, but due to the chilly weather it was postponed to a later date. Jennifer Baur, Amber Encarnacion Becky McClenning, Frank Venneman Kim Whittley, Millie Kavanaugh Marissa Marshall, Lauren Haviland Marcia Warstler, Kara Whiteaker Mildred Johnson, Lisa Edwards Theresa Smith, Amanda Sexton Jan Thomas, Ralph WINGATE HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL!! Kathie and Keenan took advantage of a particularly sunshiny day and offered our residents Ranger Rides. Everyone had a great time! In fact Agnes Parker went on several rides! A Little Bit Of Funny I hear the boys are going on strike, one worker told another. What for? asked the friend. Shorter hours. Good for them! I always did think 60 minutes was too long for an hour. Mary Jurgensmeier, Tom Burress, Agnes Parker and Keenan April Fools Facts The first reference of April Fools' Day (in literature) dates back to On April 1, 1946, a powerful tsunami killed scores of unsuspecting people (who thought the warning was an April Fools hoax) on the Pacific Island of Hawaii. On April Fools Day in 1996, restaurant chain Taco Bell announced that it had purchased) the Liberty Bell in an effort to help reduce government debts. On April 22 nd Twila Wagner brought her 3 rd grade class to PMRV. Each student portrayed themselves as one of their Grandparents in a Wax Museum. Each student announced who they were portraying and told about their lives. Our residents were very connected to this-as it was like going down Memory Lane.
3 rd grade Wax Museum Also, on April 22 nd, PMRV hosted a Volunteer Tea to show appreciation to our numerous volunteers. We would like to thank everyone for attending! We could not do everything that we do without your kind services. During the celebration, grades kindergarten through 6 th did a presentation of singing God Bless America using sign language. Each volunteer was given a gift and cake and punch were served. Nursing Tribute A special tribute was held on May 6 th in honor of all nurses. Each nurse at PMRV received a gift and a special Thank you! for everything that they do. Thank you for going above and beyond in your care! The school children signing during the Volunteer Tea Thought for the Day "No matter how qualified or deserving we are, we will never reach a better life until we can imagine it for ourselves and allow ourselves to have it." On June 10 th several staff and residents sported the color pink in celebration of National Pig Day. That morning we played Pig Trivia. Games of Oink Bingo were played after a delicious afternoon snack of Pigs in a Blanket. A big Thank you! goes out to Ryan Duling who loaned us a couple of baby pigs for the day to finish out our theme! Everyone enjoyed cuddling the baby pigs. Each of the pigs had different personalities. One was very calm and the other was quite mischievous! Several staff and residents entered the Pig Calling Contest. By this time the little pigs were getting very sleepy. For the most part they just lied side by side and snoozed. Lisa Edwards was the winner of the
contest, since the pigs actually moved a bit when she called them! Brice Moore had a lot of fun with Keenan making this really cool racing contraption. However, he had even more fun racing them! Gerald Johnson Virginia Dittman June was the perfect month for outdoor water games. Lots of fun and a great way to cool off! Pig Calling Contest June 13 th through June 20 th was CNA Week. We are so proud of all of our CNA s. Both staff and residents appreciate all of their hard work and caring ways. Thank you for personally getting to know our residents and assisting in their needs. You are the BEST!! Gone Fishin!! Water Balloons!! Quick!!! Take cover!!!! Mildred Johnson holding Baby Keaton. Keaton is the son of Jeanie Vaughn (PMRV CNA)
IN REMEMBRANCE You will always be remembered and never forgotten. Charla Mickey Sneed 4/15/30-6/18/13 Water guns?!! Stick em up!!! The Father s Day Tea was well attended by our residents, their families, and staff. Everyone enjoyed ice cream floats or sundaes.
