Welcome to the 2015-2016 Season Welcome to all families and athletes, as we move into a very enjoyable season ahead. The committee has been working hard to make the season a successful and fun year ahead. I d like to encourage everyone to read their handbooks that were given out at registration, there are many new rules and that you should be aware of. A full list of all rules is on our website. To make the night successful, parents play a vital role to help run the night. We are lucky though Athletics is one of the few sports that families can get involved, whether it s measuring the shot put or raking the sand pit. Your children will also enjoy you being up close and getting involved. We also need help with setting and packing up equipment and canteen. So please check the roster, which is displayed in your handbook or notice board. All age managers will need parent helpers every night, so if you re not rostered on a parent duty, please see your age manager to help them with the nights events. Don t forget it s still quite cold, so make sure your children have a jacket. Until it warms up you can wear your club singlet over a t-shirt. Also please be aware there is no smoking on the ground at all, you will need to head out to the car park. Remember when entering the field to use the gate at the equipment shed, so don t jump the fence. Parents please look at your handbook or on the notice board on where the out of bounds area is-between the straight track and the circular track. Please be a bit patient for the first few weeks while Age managers, parent volunteers and committee get into a routine. The more parent helpers with each group would be an advantage especially as we will have a few new athletes trialing. So good luck to everyone, have fun and always do your best! Jets Clinic The JETS (Junior Encouragement & Talent Squad) program is the official Little Athletics NSW development program for dual age group athletes. Amongst its benefits, the program provides access to members-only coaching clinics and a live-in weekend performance camp, as well as discounts to other non-jets coaching clinics. Any athletes who are in the U12 to U17 age groups who achieve the qualifying standards and agree to the conditions of membership may apply to become a member of the squad at any time during the season. For more information please see our notice board or website. State Relays The State Relay Championships is the largest event on the LANSW calendar in terms of number of competitors. As the name suggests the Championships are comprised entirely of relay events. The State Relays are held in November each year. Junior athletes (U8 to U11) compete on the Saturday and senior athletes (U12 to U17) compete on the Sunday. This season the Championships are being held on the weekend of 21 & 22 November 2015 Campbelltown. The relays consist of track and field, and over the next few weeks we will be looking at putting teams in. We would like to know who is available, so please leave your name with Aggie. This takes a lot of planning as we need to make sure all athletes can turn up to compete on the day, but can also train for a few weeks leading up to the event. All final teams need to be given to Aggie by 16 October. Trans Tasman The Trans Tasman is for athletes in the U11 and U12 age groups, from both NSW and Auckland. Every second year, a team from NSW (boys and girls in both the U11 and U12 age groups), travel to Auckland for the Trans Tasman Tour. On alternate years, a team from Auckland travels to Sydney. This season the Trans Tasman Challenge will take place in Auckland in January 2016. Please note parents there are no trials this year; you must nominate, please see the flyer on our website or notice board. Entries close October 21.
