President s Corner Mission Statement The mission of Brunswick Golf Club is to provide excellence in golf and promote fellowship among its members. The mission will be accomplished by welcoming those who share our core values of a challenging, high quality course with uncrowded playing conditions and modest facilities. We are dedicated to making our club enjoyable, accessible and affordable for our members. The course is the first priority and it will be maintained so as to preserve its original design, historical character and natural surroundings. Brunswick Golf Club will contribute to the game of golf and be a responsible member of the community. I m pleased to share with all that our Golf Course is in the best shape of the season! The rain (8.5 inches) that we had in the last few weeks is behind us now. Allen was moved to make a decision that he had never made as our Superintendent: Closing the whole course for the day! On a Sunday no less, because of the amount of water was just too much and made the course unplayable. With that said, within a day or two the water went down, Allen and his staff had the course looking like nothing had ever happened. We have done a number of things this season to try to increase the amount of people playing our course. AJ and the markelng commimee have come up with numerous different approaches and are slll thinking everyday to try something new. I have had a lot of members commenlng and giving input, however there is slll some concern for member salsfaclon and enjoyment. We have decided to let every member bring one guest to play our course as member apprecialon. We hope that by doing this we will generate some greens fees or even bemer new members. We hope the guests you bring love to play golf on a great course! I want to remind or inform members that merchandise purchased and put on your club account in the pro shop is debt that is carried by the club. For first 30 days that is not a problem, arer 30 days it becomes a burden to our already Lght budget. Unfortunately we conlnue to try to collect from members that owe money from last year. This takes a lot of effort on our part to manage this privilege and we cannot have any people over 30 days please. We are working on a new system that slll allows members the convenience of credit without hurlng AJ s business and does not place the club in a bad financial posilon. Keep an eye on the web site, emails and nolces around the club for upcoming events. There is a lot going on the next few months and you don t want to miss anything or be surprised when there is an outside tournament going on. I would like to thank the Brunswick Women s Golf AssociaLon for invilng me to their monthly meelng. It was an honor meelng with them and gewng their input first hand. We are offering a special rate for first Lme women members, we recognize that is one area we would like to expand our membership. Enjoy the great condilons, see everyone out on the course!!!!!! Tim May

Director s Cut The peak season is upon us, and hopefully the heavy rains are behind us! When the weather has cooperated, the course has been very busy with both member and public play, a very welcoming sight as we enter the heart of our season. The Sadie Hawkins Tournament was played recently with an overwhelming number of parlcipants, including many new faces to the BGC tournament scene. That was awesome to see, and I hope other events can generate similar interest for both men and ladies to play together in. One in parlcular coming right up is Mixed Monday s, a 9- hole mixed two- person team event to be played Monday arernoons starlng at 4:00pm on July 2nd. This will be open to the public, so sign up with a spouse, friend or maybe who you played in the Sadie Hawkins with and choose a preferred starlng Lme each week. No long commitments, just sign up each week when you can play. The format will change week- to- week, with net team and closest to the pin prizes being awarded for each. $5 entry and $20 non- member greens fees will keep costs low and interest high! Be sure to ask the pro shop staff for more info! Lots of member events are coming up, which I will conlnue to keep you informed about via email. Some of the big upcoming events include our very popular member- member 9-9- 9-9 Tournament. If you haven t signed up for this, be sure to do so soon as the deadline (June 20 th ) is fast approaching, and the Senior Club Championship which is being held on July 8 th for both men and lady members aged 55 or above. While we plan on using mullple avenues to adverlse specials on both greens fees and memberships in the next couple months, I always feel the best method is word of mouth. So I encourage you all to spread the word on the following highlighted greens fee special we plan on running this summer. Our Roll the Dice promolon is currently running Monday- Thursday for greens fees. If a non- member comes for a booked tee Lme or just to walk on (which is something they are always encouraged to do!) and menlons they want to Roll the Dice, the Pro Shop will present them with two dice to roll for a discount on their 18- hole greens fee! If they roll an odd total, they receive $5 off; if they roll an even total, they get $10 off; and if they roll a matching pair, they get $15 off! This fun and excilng promolon should help increase our weekday greens fee income, which is something every golf course struggles with and strives to improve. Thank you in advance for telling friends and family about this great summer deal! Enjoy and sun and stay out of the sand! AJ Kavanaugh Director of Golf Brunswick Golf Club

From the Greenskeeper Dear Members, The course is drying up arer our 8.25 inches of rain last weekend. The course really weathered the storm nicely. Only a few cart paths and bunkers were in need of repair. I found myself saying "Thank goodness this isn't snow" (1" of rain equals 6-10" of snow?). All in all, the course is coming together. The crew is working hard trying to keep up with the mowing. The greens are filling in and gewng closer to the proper speed. In the next couple of weeks we will start the spiking, rolling and topdressing program in order to provide the best consistency possible. As always, feel free to contact me with any queslons or concerns. See you on the course. Allan Greenleaf The Shop Fox

Tips from The Pro Course Management One of the biggest keys to lowering your score is course management. No mamer if you're a scratch golfer or a high handicapper, if you can't control your game on the course you'll have troubles scoring well. One specific area that most all golfers should concentrate on is hiwng the ball from 125-150 yards out to the green. By improving in this area you'll give yourself many more chances for birdie and par pums. The key to this aspect of your game is being able to "know" that you can hit the ball onto any green from 150 yards out. You want to get to the point where you can consistently knock on 8 or 9 iron onto the green every Lme! You're on a 550 yard par 5, you hit a decent drive then you hit your second shot poorly, leaving you with 135 yards to the green, you know you can slll get it on the green with your third shot. Play smart! Chris Doherty Head Golf Professional Brunswick Golf Club

1898 Bar & Grille Jimbo has set his Friday Night Dinner schedule for the season! The remaining schedule is as follows: June 29 July 13 (4-Man Auction Night) July 27 August 10 August 24 September 7 September 21 (2-Man Auction Night) October 12 October 26 The theme of each dinner will be posted or emailed ahead of time. Dear Members, Thank you for supporting the 1898 Bar & Grille in it s first year as a separate entity of the club.
