Centre of excellence at Cronulla High School C RONULLA H IGH S CHOOL John Zagame April 10, 2013 President Cronulla Sutherland Water Polo Club P.O. Box 510 CRONULLA 2230 Dear John, The proposal by Cronulla Sutherland Water Polo and Bluestone Property to build an international standard Water Polo and Sports Facility, on our school oval is a very exciting one for Cronulla High School and the local community. A facility such as the one proposed gives our teachers and students access to a fantastic teaching resource. It would help to enhance many parts of our curriculum including sports, PDHPE, PASS, Hospitality and Business Studies. It would also assist us to develop links with organisations such as Wollongong University through joint educational and sporting programs. After many years of consultations between your Club and the School it is very satisfying to finally be at a point where this proposal is closer to fruition. Many of our current and former students already have an affiliation with Cronulla Sutherland Water Polo. A facility such as this would bring considerable benefits to all, especially the school. This proposal has my full and qualified support. However, I would point out that its progress is dependant on the Department of Education and Community endorsement. I have communicated to DEC that the proposal has my full support. Yours Sincerely, Tony Ibrahim Principal Cronulla High School 36 Centre of Excellence at Cronulla High School

offers a resource for use all year round. For NSW Water polo Inc. the facility would be a welcome venue for competition games, for an Intensive Training Centre as well as a possible centre of excellence associated with the NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS). At present any player for the Cronulla Sutherland Club who is selected in an NSWIS squad must travel several times per week to Sydney Olympic Park. Also during winter NSWWPI find it difficult to fit all games into pools, so a facility of this standard would certainly be well patronized. Mr John Watkins President Cronulla Sutherland Water Polo Club PO Box 510 Cronulla 2230 Dear John RE: Water Polo Centre I write to express New South Wales Water Polo Incorporated s (NSWWPI) support for the Cronulla Sutherland Water Polo Club s proposed development of an international standard Water Polo Facility at Cronulla. NSWWPI fully supports the proposed swimming pool development by Cronulla Sutherland Water Polo Club at Cronulla High School. Any facility such as this would prove an invaluable asset to both the Cronulla Club, local schools and community, as well as the sport of Water Polo. Yours sincerely, Greg Heathcote Chief Executive 13th November 2007 The Cronulla Sutherland area has long been a strong hold of water polo in NSW and for that matter, Australia. The Club has developed numerous Olympians as well as developing and maintaining the largest junior development program in Australia. The Sutherland Junior competition with over a thousand registered players forms the cornerstone of this great Club. This competition, which has its origins in Gunnamatta Bay has grown from the use of one pool on a Friday night to use three pools over Friday nights and Saturday mornings and afternoons. This competition has provided a substantial under pinning program for the Cronulla Sutherland teams entered in the Sydney Metropolitan Competitions and National League. Cronulla Sutherland Club has been the largest club in NSW for many years with ten men s and men s junior teams and eleven ladies and ladies junior teams entered in the Metropolitan Competition. This many teams places a huge strain on the one water polo pool available at Sutherland Leisure Centre. This pool is not solely available for water polo training and games as swimming squads and other user groups use it. The Club has had to organize other venues to train including Sans Souci, a pool not entirely suited to water polo. The Club has also taken a number of its competition games to Gunnamatta Bay. The need for a suitable facility available specifically for water polo in the Sutherland Shire has been obvious for a long time, as teams are unable to train at the existing pools. The facility proposed by the Cronulla Sutherland Club would not only benefit the club but surrounding schools and other aquatic user groups.
