GAME NOTES Clearwater (15-18) vs Charlotte (23-10) Game No. 34 May 14, 2015 Starting Pitchers: RHP Ryne Stanek (1-2) vs RHP Victor Arano (0-3) Shark Bytes THRESHERS NO-HIT, BLANKED IN TWIN BILL: Buddy Borden hurled the first Florida State League no-hitter of the 2015 season on Wednesday morning, and the Clearwater Threshers suffered a pair of shutout losses to the Charlotte Stone Crabs, 5-0 and 1-0. It was the first no-no in the FSL since former Stone Crab Blake Snell no-hit Daytona in a 5.1 inning, rain-shortened effort on August 2nd last season. Yesterday was also the first time the Threshers had been held hitless since July 22, 2013 against Jupiter. RIOS ROLLING: Yacksel Rios made his second start of the season in game two on Wednesday, and turned in five innings of one-hit ball. Rios, who had not appeared since May 3, allowed only one baserunner - a leadoff single to Juniel Querecuto in the fourth - and struck out three. He faced the minimum in his five innings. YOU WON T SEE THAT AGAIN: Wednesday s doubleheader opener featured an extremely rare occurrence - both a no-hitter and a triple play in the same contest. The last (and perhaps only other) time it has been recorded in Minor League Baseball history occurred on July 19, 2011, when the Northwest Arksansas Naturals accomplished the feat against the Arkansas Travelers. The Naturals turned a triple play in the sixth inning, helping Will Smith and Kevin Herrera to combine on a nine-inning no-hitter. A NEW CHACE: Catcher Chace Numata has been added to the roster from Lakewood, and has the nod behind the plate in the series finale vs. Charlotte. Numata, 22, began the year on the DL before making his season-debut with the Blue Claws on Saturday. Numata went 5-for-14 (.357) in four games with Lakewood. HEAD TO HEAD: Clearwater will face the Stone Crabs for the fourth of eight meetings this year. The Threshers are 0-3 this season against Charlotte. In 2014, the Threshers finished 3-5 against the Stone Crabs, including 2-2 at home.
