Old Wilsnians Cricket Club Welfare f Yung Peple in Cricket Plicy Intrductin It is imprtant that all Club members wrking with Yung Peple (ptentially all f us) behave in an apprpriate manner, perating within an accepted ethical framewrk. This will prtect bth the Yung Peple and the Adults within Cricket and ur Club. The fllwing prvides guidelines n acceptable and unacceptable behaviur when wrking with Yung Peple. The guidelines are relevant t all Adults (Caches, Umpires, Team Managers, Vlunteers and Parents) wrking with yung Peple. Principles f Gd Practice Ensure that Cricket is fun, enjyable and fair play is prmted Treat all Yung Peple equally, with respect and dignity Be an excellent rle mdel this includes nt smking r drinking alchl in the cmpany f Yung Peple Always put the welfare f each Yung Persn first, befre winning r achieving gals Always wrk in an pen envirnment (e.g. avid private r unbserved situatins and encurage an pen envirnment, e.g. n secrets) Build a balanced relatinship based n mutual trust, which empwers Yung Peple t share in the decisin making prcess. ECB adpts Hme Office guidelines which recmmend the principle that peple in psitins f trust and authrity d nt have sexual relatinships with 16-17 year lds r vulnerable adults in their care. Recgnise the develpment needs and capacity f Yung Peple, aviding excessive training r cmpetitin and nt pushing them against their will Give enthusiastic and cnstructive feedback, rather than negative criticism Ensure any infrmatin n a player is t hand, in case f emergency Keep a written recrd f any injury that ccurs, alng with the details f any treatment given Ensure that if any frm f manual/physical cntact is required, it shuld be prvided penly and accrding t guidelines prvided by the ECB Keep up t date with the technical skills, qualificatins and insurance in Cricket. If yu are a cach, maintain yur membership f the ECB Caches Assciatin and yur Cach Licence, t ensure yu are insured and up t date If grups have t be supervised in the changing rms, always ensure Parents/Caches/Officials wrk in pairs Ensure that if mixed teams are taken away, they shuld always be accmpanied by a male and female member f Staff Ensure that at turnaments r away/vernight fixtures, Adults d nt enter Yung Peple s rms withut fllwing apprpriate guidelines, r invite Yung Peple int their rms It is the plicy f Old Wilsnians Cricket Club NOT t transprt Yung Peple t away fixtures. Pr Practice The fllwing practice will place Yung Peple and thse wrking with them in a vulnerable psitin and is deemed t be pr practice. If pr practice is identified thrugh a cmplaint r referral, this may result in an investigatin by the ECB and disciplinary actin in terms f the ECB Cmplaints and Discipline Prcedure. All individuals wrking with Yung Peple shuld avid the fllwing practice. Yu shuld NEVER: Spend time alne with Yung Peple away frm thers Take Yung Peple t yur hme where they will be alne with yu. Transprt Yung Peple in yur car alne Transprt Yung Peple if yu are an unregistered driver Engage in rugh, physical r sexually prvcative games Share a rm with a Yung Persn Allw r engage in any frm f inapprpriate tuching r physical abuse Allw Yung Peple t use inapprpriate language unchallenged Make sexually suggestive cmments t a Yung Persn, even in fun Reduce a Yung Persn t tears as a frm f cntrl Allw allegatins made by a Yung Persn t g unchallenged, unrecrded r nt acted upn D things f a persnal nature fr Yung Peple that they can d fr themselves If any f the abve, r the fllwing incidents ccur r are bserved, yu must reprt them t the Club Welfare Officer and make a written nte f the event using the ECB Welfare Incident Frm and infrm Parents wherever pssible if: Yu accidentally hurt a Yung Cricketer A Yung Persn seems distressed in any manner A Yung Persn appears t be sexually arused by yur actins A Yung Persn misunderstands r misinterprets smething yu have dne Page 3 f 14

Old Wilsnians Cricket Club Child Prtectin Plicy Our plicy applies t all staff, and vlunteers wrking regularly (which shall mean at least weekly cntact) with children in the OWCC and r the OWCC Clts Clubs ( The Clubs ). There are five main elements t ur plicy: 1. Ensuring we practice safe recruitment in checking the suitability f staff and vlunteers t wrk with children. 2. Raising awareness f child prtectin issues and equipping children with the skills needed t keep them safe. 3. Develping and then implementing prcedures fr identifying and reprting cases, r suspected cases, f abuse. 4. Supprting any child wh has been abused in accrdance with his/her agreed child prtectin plan. 5. Establishing a safe envirnment in which children can learn t play cricket and develp their ability. The Clubs therefre:- Establish and maintain an envirnment where children feel secure, are encuraged t talk, and are listened t. Ensure children knw that there are adults in OWCC whm they can apprach if they are wrried. Assist children t develp the skills they need t recgnise and stay safe frm abuse. The Clubs als:- Ensure there is a designated senir persn fr child prtectin wh has received apprpriate training and supprt fr this rle. Ensure every member f staff (including temprary and supply staff and vlunteers) knws the name f the designated senir persn respnsible fr child prtectin and their rle. Ensure all staff and vlunteers understand their respnsibilities in being alert t the signs f abuse and respnsibility fr referring any cncerns t the designated senir persn respnsible fr child prtectin. Develp effective links with relevant agencies and c-perate when and as may be required with their enquiries regarding child prtectin matters including attendance at case cnferences if necessary. Keep written recrds f cncerns abut children, even where there is n need t refer the matter immediately. Ensure all recrds are kept securely and separate frm the main Clt recrd file and in a lcked lcatin. Develp and then fllw prcedures where an allegatin is made against a member f staff r vlunteer. Old Wilsnians Cricket Club Anti-Bullying Plicy Statement f Intent We are cmmitted t prviding a caring, friendly and safe envirnment fr all f ur children s they can train and play in a relaxed and secure atmsphere. Bullying f any kind is unacceptable at ur club. If bullying des ccur, all children shuld be able t tell and knw that incidents will be dealt with prmptly and effectively. We are a TELLING club. This means that anyne wh knws that bullying is happening is expected t tell the staff and fficials. What Is Bullying? Bullying is the use f aggressin with the intentin f hurting anther persn. Bullying results in pain and distress t the victim. Bullying can be: Emtinal: being unfriendly, excluding, trmenting (e.g. hiding kit, threatening gestures) Physical: pushing, kicking, hitting, punching r any use f vilence Racist: racial taunts, graffiti, gestures Sexual: unwanted physical cntact r sexually abusive cmments Hmphbic: because f, r fcusing n the issue f sexuality Verbal: name-calling, sarcasm, spreading rumurs, teasing Cyber: All areas f internet, such as email and internet chat rm misuse. Mbile threats by text messaging and calls. Misuse f assciated technlgy, i.e. camera and vide facilities Why is it Imprtant t Respnd t Bullying? Bullying hurts. N ne deserves t be a victim f bullying. Everybdy has the right t be treated with respect. Children wh are bullying need t learn different ways f behaving. Cricket Clubs have a respnsibility t respnd prmptly and effectively t issues f bullying. Objectives f this Plicy All fficials, caching and nn-caching staff, children and parents shuld have an understanding f what bullying is. All fficials, caching and nn-caching staff shuld knw what the club plicy is n bullying, and fllw it when bullying is reprted. All children and parents shuld knw what the club plicy is n bullying, and what they shuld d if bullying arises. As a club we take bullying seriusly. Children and parents shuld be assured that they will be supprted when bullying is reprted. Bullying will nt be tlerated. Signs and Symptms A child may indicate by signs r behaviur that he r she is being bullied. Adults shuld be aware f these pssible signs and that they shuld investigate if a child: says they are being bullied changes their usual rutine Page 5 f 14

In mre extreme cases, if the child: starts stammering cries themselves t sleep at night r has nightmares becmes aggressive, disruptive r unreasnable is bullying ther children r siblings stps eating attempts r threatens suicide r runs away These signs and behaviurs culd indicate ther prblems, but bullying shuld be cnsidered a pssibility and shuld be investigated. Prcedures 1. Reprt bullying incidents t the Club Welfare Officer 2. In cases f serius bullying, the incidents will be reprted t the ECB Child Prtectin Team fr advice via the Cunty Welfare Officer 3. Parents shuld be infrmed and will be asked t cme in t a meeting t discuss the prblem 4. If necessary and apprpriate, plice will be cnsulted 5. The bullying behaviur r threats f bullying must be investigated and the bullying stpped quickly 6. An attempt will be made t help the bully (bullies) change their behaviur In cases f adults reprted t be bullying cricketers under 18, the ECB must always be infrmed and will advise n actin t be taken. Preventin We will use KIDSCAPE methds fr helping children t prevent bullying. As and when apprpriate. These may include: writing a set f club rules signing a behaviur cntract having discussins abut bullying and why it matters Kidscape 2005 Page 6 f 14

Old Wilsnians Cricket Club Changing Rm and Shwering Facilities Plicy This Changing Rm Plicy applies t Adults and Yung Peple (under the age f 18) sharing changing and shwering facilities at Old Wilsnians Cricket Club. The principles adpted by the Club are as fllws: Adults must nt change r shwer at the same time using the same facility as children. Adults shuld try t change at separate times t children during matches i.e. when padding up. If Adults and children need t share a changing facility, the Club must have cnsent frm the Parents that their child(ren) can share a changing rm with Adults in the club. If children play fr Adult Teams, they and their Parents must be infrmed f the Club s plicy n changing arrangements. Fr matches played at the Clubhuse, at Hayes, the changing facilities in the lft are always available as a separate male changing rm. The Ladies Changing Rm is always available t Girl/Lady cricketers. Mbile phnes must nt be used in changing rms. Please nte that if children are uncmfrtable changing r shwering at the Club, n pressure shuld be placed n them t d s. Encurage them t d this at hme. Old Wilsnians Cricket Club Cde f Cnduct / Set f rules fr Yung Peple Old Wilsnians Cricket Club is fully cmmitted t safeguarding and prmting the wellbeing f all its members. Old Wilsnians Cricket Club believes that it is imprtant that members, caches, administratrs and parents/carers r guardians assciated with the club shuld, at all times, shw respect and understanding fr the safety and welfare f thers. Therefre, members are encuraged t be pen at all times and t share any cncerns r cmplaints that they may have abut any aspect f the club with Marg Lawrence (Clts Chairpersn) r Jane Kempthrn (Welfare Officer). As a member f Old Wilsnians Cricket Club yu are expected t abide by the fllwing junir cde f cnduct: All members must play within the rules and respect fficials and their decisins. All members must respect the rights, dignity and wrth f all participants regardless f gender, ability, cultural backgrund r religin. All members must use crrect and prper language at all times. All members will be expected t play within the spirit f the game as well as within the laws f cricket. Members shuld keep t agreed timings fr training and cmpetitins r infrm their cach r team manager if they are ging t be late. Members must wear OWCC kit fr training and match sessins, as agreed with the cach/team manager. Members must pay any fees fr training r events prmptly. Members under 18 years are nt allwed t smke n club premises r whilst representing the club at cmpetitins. Members under 18 years are nt allwed t cnsume alchl r drugs f any kind n the club premises r whilst representing the club. Failure t abide by the rules will result in disciplinary actin. Page 8 f 14

Old Wilsnians Cricket Club Cde f Cnduct fr Cricket Club Members and Guests All Members and Guests* f Old Wilsnians Cricket Club will: Respect the rights, dignity and wrth f every persn within the cntext f Cricket. Treat everyne equally and nt discriminate n the grunds f age, gender, disability, race, ethnic rigin, natinality, clur, parental r marital status, religius belief, class r scial backgrund, sexual preference r plitical belief. Nt cndne, r allw t g unchallenged, any frm f discriminatin if witnessed. Display high standards f behaviur and use crrect and prper language at all times. Prmte the psitive aspects f Cricket e.g. fair play. Encurage all participants t learn the Laws and rules and play within them, respecting the decisins f match fficials. Actively discurage unfair play, rule vilatins and arguing with match fficials. Recgnise gd perfrmance nt just match results. Place the well-being and safety f Yung Peple abve the develpment f perfrmance. Ensure that activities are apprpriate fr the age, maturity, experience and ability f the individual. Respect Yung Peple s pinins when making decisins abut their participatin in Cricket. Nt smke, drink r use banned substances whilst actively wrking with Yung Peple in the Club. The bundaries fr actively wrking are frm the cmmencement f the caching sessin r cricket match t when it is cmpleted and des nt extend t the changing rms r club huse area. Nt prvide under 18 year lds with alchl when they are under the care f the Club. Fllw ECB guidelines set ut in the Safe Hands Cricket s Plicy fr Safeguarding Children and any ther relevant guidelines issued. Reprt any cncerns in relatin t a Yung Persn, fllwing reprting prcedures laid dwn by the ECB. Page 9 f 14

Always wrk in an pen envirnment (i.e. avid private r unbserved situatins and encurage an pen envirnment). Infrm Players and Parents f the requirements f Cricket. Knw and understand the ECB s Safe Hands Cricket s Plicy fr Safeguarding Children. Develp an apprpriate wrking relatinship with Yung Players, based n mutual trust and respect. Ensure that physical cntact is apprpriate and necessary and is carried ut within recmmended guidelines with the Yung Player s full cnsent and apprval. Nt engage in any frm f sexual related cntact with a Yung Player. This is strictly frbidden as is sexual innuend, flirting r inapprpriate gestures and terms. The ECB adpts the Hme Office guidelines which recmmend the principle Peple in psitins f trust and authrity d nt have sexual relatinships with 16 17 year lds in their care. Attend apprpriate training t keep up t date with their rle and especially with respect t the safeguarding f Yung peple. Members and Guests include all members and fficers f the Cricket Club and all guests f thse members and fficers, as well as all individuals wh watch / attend / participate / fficiate in matches hsted by the club in whatever capacity Page 10 f 14

Old Wilsnians Cricket Club Health & Safety Plicy Statement The Club accepts respnsibility within the Health and safety at Wrk Act 1974 and the Management and Safety at Wrk Regulatins 1992 and as amended by subsequent legislatin; the safety, health and well being f staff during wrking hurs and at ther times when they are emplyed n the club s business. The club recgnises its respnsibilities with regard t fire and safety precautins and the prvisin f first aid facilities. The club s frmal plicy, tgether with legislatin, impses n staff a duty t take all reasnable care fr their wn safety and the safety f ther staff and visitrs. It is the respnsibility f the staff t bring t the attentin f the managers anything that they cnsider t be a hazard t health and safety. FIRE PRECAUTIONS If yu hear the fire alarm r hear smebdy shuting Fire, please leave the pavilin IMMEDIATELY by the nearest exit / fire exit. These are clearly indicated. Please cngregate in the netball curt area, at the far end f the tennis curts, until such time as the pavilin has been declared safe. D nt re-enter the building. DO NOT STOP TO COLLECT PROPERTY. SMOKING Smking is nt permitted in any part f the pavilin r changing rms. ACCIDENT AND SAFETY PROCEDURES The club has first aid facilities lcated in the kitchen and with the caches at away matches. EQUIPMENT AND FACILITY CHECKLISTS A regular assessment f equipment within the clubhuse and f the clubhuse building itself is carried ut by the Pavilin Manager. Additinally, regular risk assessments are undertaken n cricket equipment including the cricket cage and helmets. TRANSPORT TO MATCHES AND PRACTICE SESSIONS The Club s plicy is that parents r ther respnsible adults are respnsible fr transprting players t and frm all matches / practice sessins and therefre the Club will nt be registering Private Vehicles fr the transprtatin f individuals in cnnectin with any fixtures r practice sessins arranged by the Club. The implementatin f this plicy is nt intended t exclude any player frm participatin and parents and guardians shuld cntact the Club Welfare Officer if they have any prblems with the transprtatin f players t matches r practice sessins. Old Wilsnians Cricket Club Clts Playing in Adult Cricket The English Cricket Bard issued guidance in 2011 seasn cncerning yung players participating in pen age cricket.
