The Utes open the weekend with a Friday afternoon matchup against Missouri State. will face the host team, Texas A&M, on Saturday night. Balls & Strikes has never matched up with Missouri State (formerly Southwest Missouri State) on the diamond. The Utes are 1-2 against Texas A&M. hasn t faced the Aggies since 2003. We ll play four games in four days and have a chance to see our pitching depth at work. On the Utes: Individually, Ryan Khoury and John Welsh have really played well. Those two have carried us a bit. As a team, we re still a bit of a work in progress. But we re narrowing down the things we need to work on. I saw a big improvement last weekend and we need to keep building on that.

This is Kinneberg s second goround as the Utes head baseball coach. Kinneberg was the head coach at in 1996, leading the Utes to a 30-22 record. The 30 victories recorded by under Kinneberg was a school record at the time. Since January of 2003, Kinneberg had been working for the Chicago White Sox organization as a minor league pitching coach. He also recently worked with USA Baseball, as director of the athlete development program. From 1996 through 2001, Kinneberg was the associate head baseball coach at the University of Arizona. The Wildcats were 124-102 in that time. Arizona also advanced to an NCAA Regional Tournament during his tenure. Kinneberg served as the pitching coach for USA Baseball s national team in 1999. He coached three All-WAC athletes during the 1996 season at. The Utes also set four school records which are still intact, during Kinneberg s first stint. Prior to his time with the Utes, Kinneberg was an assistant baseball coach at Arizona State from 1992 through 1994. During the 1993 and 1994 seasons, Kinneberg helped lead the Sun Devils to the College World Series. Kinneberg was the head baseball coach at Wyoming from 1986 through 1992. While in charge of the Cowboys program, Kinneberg guided his team to the WAC playoffs in five of his seven seasons. In 1990, he earned Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Kinneberg served as head coach at UTEP in 1985. Kinneberg s coaching career began in 1980, when he became an assistant at UTEP. He served in that capacity for four years. In addition to his duties with USA Baseball, Kinneberg worked with the Italian Olympic team in 1984, serving as pitching coach. In his 11th season as a head coach at the NCAA Division I level, Kinneberg has a record of 298-246. He is 53-63 overall at. His teams established school records for victories in a season at UTEP in 1985, Wyoming in 1990 and in 1996. Kinneberg is a 1980 graduate of the University of Arizona. He attended graduate school at UTEP from 1980-1982.

The Utes play all their home Mountain West Conference games at Franklin Covey, as well as some nonconference contests. Franklin Covey Field opened in 1994 and serves as the home to the Salt Lake Bees, the AAA affiliate of Major League Baseball s Anaheim Angels. Franklin Covey Field s playing surface is natural grass and the stadium seats 15,500. Dimensions are as follows: left field line - 345 feet; left-center - 385 feet; center field - 420 feet; right-center - 375 feet; 20 feet from the right-field line - 345 feet; right-field line - 315 feet. The views at Franklin Covey Field are astounding. From any seat in the house, fans can view the majestic Wasatch Mountains on the east side of Salt Lake City. The stadium rests at 4,229 feet above sea level. The Bees, then known as the Buzz, set a Pacific Coast League record for attendance at FCF, drawing 714,000 fans in 1994. Franklin Covey Field was also the home for the 1996 Triple-A All-Star Game.
