Dear Parent/Guardian The 2016-2017 Woodlawn JR and SR High Cheerleading tryouts are approaching and your child has indicated a desire to become a member of the Woodlawn Cheerleading Squad. If elected, there are certain responsibilities and obligations which he/she must assume in order to qualify and remain a member in good standing on the cheerleading squad. If your child makes the squad, both the child and the parent/guardian will be expected to know and abide by the rules of the cheerleading constitution and its amendments. Below is a list of dates and information concerning the 2016-2017 Woodlawn Cheerleading Tryouts: 2016-2017 Cheerleading tryouts will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 beginning with JR High cheerleader candidates at 3:30. SR High will begin immediately following JR High. There will be a mandatory parent/guardian and student pre-tryout meeting on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 6:00pm in the gym. Please read over the cheer constitution and review the calendar that highlights important dates. Any questions will be addressed at the pre-tryout meeting. A $15 non-refundable tryout fee is due by Tuesday, March 1, 2016. Tryout form will also be due at this time. Forms need to be turned in to Ms. Jaime. All candidates are required to have a physical and a signed statement from a doctor. This form must be returned to the cheer coach by Friday, March 4, 2016. Students will not be allowed to participate in practice or tryouts without a physical on file. (If a student has participated in any WJHS or WHS sports program this school year, there may be a physical on file already.) All candidates are required to attend the pre-tryout practices. o Monday, March 7 3:20 til 6:00 o Tuesday, March 8 3:20 til 5:30 o Wednesday, March 9 3:20 til 5:00 o Thursday, March 10 3:20 til 5:30 Mock Tryouts o Friday, March 11 3:30 til?? Tryouts All practices and tryouts will be closed to the public. The gym doors will be locked at precisely at the start time of practice. If a student is late to practice, they will not be allowed to tryout. All candidates must tryout in black shorts, plain white shirt (tank tops are acceptable as long as they cover the width of the shoulder), and plain white tennis shoes. All clothes must be free of markings or slogans. NO SPAGHETTI STRAP TANK TOPS ARE ACCEPTABLE. Estimate of the Costs of Cheerleading 2016-2017 Camp $329.00 Camp Clothes.. $140.00 Shoes.. $60.00 Tights/Sleeves $40.00 Warm-ups $175.00 Pompoms $40.00 Bag.. $30.00 Please remember, this is just an estimate of expenses. If your child orders extra socks, bows, tights, gym bags, etc., the cost will be higher for you. The first year of cheering is definitely the most expensive. We will have fundraisers to help offset this expense. If you have any ideas for good fundraisers, we will be glad to look in to it! You may also pay a certain amount per month in order to keep from having to pay all at one time.
Additional Information Each candidates score will come from the following categories: Group Dance Group Chant Entrance Spirit & Enthusiasm Motion Technique Jumps (Toe Touch & Student Choice) Voice & Projection Overall Appearance Two Teacher Evaluations Coaches Evaluation Two teacher evaluations will be emailed to your teachers. One goes to your English teacher One goes to a teacher of your choice (please indicate on permission form the teacher you would like it to be sent to) 6 th Grade Students may turn forms into their homeroom teachers or the elementary office. 7 th -11 th Grade Students need to turn forms into Mrs. Jaime between classes or during your lunch. A coaches evaluation will be done following the last tryout practice on Thursday, March 10, 2016. **** Cheer camp will be July 25-28 at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. This camp has already been booked for the JR High and SR High Squads. Failure to attend cheer camp in its entirety for any reason other than severe illness or death in the family will result in the cheerleader being dismissed from the squad. ****

Failure to attend or be on time for pre-tryout practices for any reason will result in my child NOT being allowed to tryout. The Cheer Constitution will be strictly enforced and failure to abide by the rules and guidelines will result in my child s dismissal from the cheer squad. The uniforms are the property of Woodlawn School District and therefore must be returned to the school in good condition as soon as possible after the last basketball game. Woodlawn School District and the cheer coaches assume NO responsibility for any accident or injury that might occur at school during any event or practice.
