PRESIDENTS REPORT The season is about to get under way, for all the delays in getting teams training, coaches sorted and kids kitted, I have no doubt that 2017 is going to be a fantastic season. Once again we had record signings, with growth of 15%. We have more under 11's than any other club on the coast!! We have huge growth in female participation with a 33% increase in playing numbers!! We have independent coaches in every Youth team bar one, that means our club is no longer asking big dads to coach youth teams. The next step is to find professional coaches for all 10's and 11's...we are halfway there!! Our club has committed more funds into junior and youth development than ever before, with all teams receiving new equipment and coaches uniforms to ensure everyone is setup for a great year. We have received great support from amazing sponsors, great local business that now need your support. Parklands Tavern, Caloundra City Autos, Alarmquip, Toothkind, Caloundra Bulk Billing, Little Kickers, Coffee Club at Rumba, Wurtulla Fruit and Veg, Clearflow Plumbing, Preferred Plaster, Caloundra RSL, Devcon Constructions. Without their support our club would not operate. Finally, I would like to thank Iain Dalton, Mackenzie Smith and Rui Spinola for their fantastic work developing a great junior football program. I would like to thank Garry and Nicole Gray for all their work through the years. Wendy Cullen and Rick Bastiaans for everything they do!! To Lisa Hawkshaw and Rebecca Early for working tirelessly through another registration. To Charmaine and Peta for making sure the president always has a list of to do jobs!! And to Rebecca Basile for giving me the chance to lead our wonderful club. Welcome to 2017, I hope we reach the goals we have set out for the season. Nic Basile

VOLUNTEERS REPORT At the beginning of the 2016 Soccer season I realised if you can t beat them, you might as well join them. In this case, it was joining my husband at the Soccer Club. I could see a real opportunity to increase the volunteer support within the Club and a real opportunity to see more of my husband so all in all it appeared to be a WIN / WIN situation. So I attended the Annual General Meeting and as they say, the rest is history. Firstly, I would like to again thank everyone who has donated their time at the Club. Regardless of what you have done, it is valued and appreciated. We are recognised on the Sunshine Coast as a strong community based Club. Other Clubs are talking about Caloundra and the amazing things we are doing with our coaching, development and growth. Our volunteer base is also recognised and envied by many a Club. This was certainly evident in 2016 with the increased number of volunteers. If you have coached or managed a team, helped for 30 minutes in the canteen, set up table and chairs, picked up rubbish, helped with line marking the fields, set up fields for every home game (midweek, Friday night, Saturday and even Sunday), been ground official or completed any other task around the Club..we salute you!!! This is not about who is doing what and how much time they spend at the Club. This is more about what it takes to run the Club. Since being on the Committee and spending many hours in the Canteen talking with Nic (I have done a lot of listening!) a few facts have really astounded me. As a parent of 2 boys who absolutely love their soccer, I like everyone else, pay the boys registration fees at the beginning of the year. I approach the beginning of the season full of enthusiasm. I take the boys on a special shopping trip (insert their eye roll here) to buy goalie gloves, boots, shin pads and anything else that may make them excited to come shopping with me. The boys trial for their age group and their teams are formed. Yes!!! Now we are ready for a great year. It takes a lot to operate and manage a successful Club. Yes, we pay fees. Yes, at the time it feels like a great expense. The reality though is these fees don t contribute much to the running costs of the Club. Maybe I have had my blinkers on. But maybe I am not the only one. So here are some interesting facts for you:

VOLUNTEERS REPORT Continued Did you know Caloundra Football Club has to book each field prior to the season commencing with Sunshine Coast Regional Council? This is for all training and every game. Did you know Caloundra Football Club is required to pay a hire fee to the Sunshine Coast Regional Council for every field; every time it is booked? Did you know Caloundra Football Club has to pay these fees even if training / games are called off due to weather etc? Did you know Caloundra Football Club currently pays $1200 / month to the Sunshine Coast Regional Council for the use of the fields? Yes, and we book the fields for 9 months of the year Did you know Caloundra Football Club currently pays between $800 and $1200 / month for electricity to light the fields for training, mid-week and weekend games? Again 9 months of the year Did you know Caloundra Football Club currently spends between $5000 and $10000 / year on equipment including nets, balls, corner flags etc? Did you know Caloundra Football Club pays $20 in line marking paint / field / week? The lines are marked every week in preparation for the games, regardless if they are called off due to weather. I must admit, I was astounded to hear these figures. These figures alone represent some $30000 in outgoings. Not to mention Summer Competition. Now instead of celebrating a rained off game, I think about the lost opportunity to generate some income through the canteen / bar and the price we are still paying for the use of the fields. Now when I drive past the Club and notice the lights on late at night when no one is there, I send a text to alert people they are still on. Now when I see kids swinging on the goal nets like a monkey bar, I ask them to kindly stop. Now when I turn up to the club and see a match ball on the ground I pick it up and take it to the Clubhouse. Volunteering is our choice. How much time we spend at the Club is our choice. Reality is, every little bit helps. It may not seem like much at the time but it all matters. For me, I feel blessed to be part of such a great Club. My time at Caloundra Football Club has given me so much more than I could ever give back. I have made great friends and consider these people to be part of my family. I will cherish these relationships forever. I know my boys appreciate my contribution to Caloundra Football Club and the small part we all play in making this a great Club. See you around the Club Nicole Gray

GROUND OFFICIALS MANDATORY FOR ALL HOME GAMES UNDER 12 AND OVER In 2016 Sunshine Coast Football advised it was mandatory for a Ground Official to be present at every home game with an officiating referee, i.e. Under 12 and over. Not having a Ground Official present for each game will result in the game NOT commencing and the points for the game being awarded to the AWAY team. I am sure you will agree; this is not an option we want to adopt. Can I please ask you to liaise with your Team and lock in a volunteer who is willing to be Ground Official for ALL of your home games. It is each team s responsibility to ensure they have an appointed Ground Official. I would recommend trying to have one person accept this responsibility so you are not having to worry about it each week when you are playing at home. Sunshine Coast Football will be policing each game to ensure a Ground Official is present, so please ensure this is covered by your team. We do not want our points going to the AWAY team due to no Ground Official being present. PLEASE NOTE: A Ground Official vest must be worn by the Ground Official at all times. If you do not have a high vis vest in your kit, they are available from the Canteen One Ground Official must be present for each and every game Ground Official MUST be over the age of 18 Ground Official cannot carry out any other duties whilst officiating, i.e. canteen duties, coaching etc Ground Official is to make themselves known to the Referee at the Referee Room and walk them to and from the field If you encounter any problems nominating a ground official for your game or have any questions, please let the Club know.

Over the past month Caloundra Football club have had the privilege to have Kaye Vlachos from Soul2SoulAthlete come and share her knowledge and experience with our women s team.
