C.A.T.C. NEWS JAN 2016 THE CAROLINA ANTIQUE TACKLE COLLECTORS NEWSLETTER VOL XIX NO 1RO President's Message HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Welcome to 2016!! As we began a new year I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and brought in the New Year with a new desire to grow your collection and find that special lure that you're looking for. Thanks to everybody that attended the Myrtle Beach show, and a special Thanks to our show hosts, Gene & Suzanne McIntyre. Congratulations to the winners of the fishing contest. Pictured below. Women's category was Sharon Hensley while the Men's category was Randy Hubbard, and the Kid s category was won by Dylan Brady. Hope to see everyone at the NFLCC Pigeon Forge show in January, as this show is always well attended and lots of fun, plus you just might find that one lure you been looking for. We plan on having another Greenville SC show this spring. Show dates are April 16 and 17 with member set up on the 15th. We have reserved the same motel as last year, The Phoenix Inn. The address is 246 N. Pleasantburg Dr., Greenville SC. Make sure you call me to reserve your tables as there is a limited number of tables that will fit into the show room. So, please don't wait to reserve your tables as it will most likely be a sale out... Call me now at 1-864-380-3129 or Sharon Hensley at 1-864-704-8371. Wall tables are $25.00 and isle tables are $20.00 each. We are looking forward to seeing all CATC members and new friends here in Greenville. Again we have requested that all the rooms be ground level for ease of loading and unloading... also the rooms are the same rate as last year, $75.00 per night. Hope all you folks are having a great year so far and we'll be looking to see ya at the Greenville show in the spring. Hack Hensley Dylan Brady Randy Hubbard Sharon Hensley Gene McIntyre

Nov. 19-22, 2015...After a rainy start the sun was bright, the air cool...exceptional fall weather in Myrtle Beach. Springmaid Resort...a perfect setting for the 7th Annual Carolina Antique Tackle Club to meet. We arrived after a 5 hour drive to a problem free check-in and clean room. Thursday nights are set aside for room-to-room trading among the collectors. The boys-and ladies-come to hang out, shoot the breeze and tell of their latest find. They barter and buy. Satisfying deals are made by all. Friday dawned with beautiful fishing weather. The tournament on the pier is looked forward to by all. Due to an injury Scott was unable to fish but he joined the group to lend moral support. Trophies and a cash reward are incentives to hook that big one. Friday night is set-up time for the big event. Saturday is another gorgeous day. Everyone is set up with their pride and joy on display and items to sell. People come in to look and learn. Some have tackle they are ready to pass on to others via auction. Families come for a days outing. It's very rewarding to watch a child's eyes light up as they peek over the tables of tackle. A fisherman and collector is born. Sunday closes out the show. Treasures are packed up, last minute deals are made, phone numbers exchanged. This is a wonderful organization run by a group of experienced and dedicated people. They are people eager to share the love of collecting this unique art form, the Lure of the Fish. Sharon Hensley Gene McIntyre Steve Barrow Carolina Antique Tackle Collectors Current Events By Steve Barrow 2015 Myrtle Beach Show Gene and Suzann and all the other volunteers did a great job again this year. Gene and Suzann not only dedicate their time and energy to the CATC, but also personally paid for the show patches and many of the materials handed out to attendees. Please thank them when you see them at the 2016 Spring Show. Elections at 2015 Myrtle Beach Show At our Fall Show business meeting there were elections for CATC President and Secretary/Treasurer to serve during the 2016/2017 term. Hack Hensley was re -elected as President, and Sharon Hensley was elected as Secretary/Treasurer. At the 2016 Fall Show there will be elections for the Vice President and Directors positions. I would like to thank the CATC membership for all the support and encouragement I received as club Secretary/Treasurer from 2006 to 2015. For example, countless times during that period I opened up an envelope to remove the dues check and also found a handwritten thank you note, or other greeting that was greatly appreciated. It was a good ten years and the highlight of my lure collecting experience!! Submit a Newsletter Article, Earn $50!! Beginning in 2015, CATC members can earn $50 by submitting tackle related newsletter articles that are chosen for publication. Each article must be at last two pages long, including any pictures that are incorporated. Articles should be submitted electronically to Zandra Huffman at zandrahuffman@yahoo.com. Our club has about 160 members, all of whom have collections, knowledge, stories, and pictures that would be entertaining and informative to the other members. The article could be of a historical nature, favorite or recent field finds, experiences using old tackle, or any other subject relating to CATC s Mission: Enhance and promote the collection and preservation of antique fishing tackle and memorabilia.
