Thomas BMS Principal Create a great day!

Greetings, Over the past few years, we have made great strides with student performance and student growth, as well as experienced tremendous success with athletics, music, the arts, and beyond. School Report Card grades are being released today for all public schools across the state as part of the annual North Carolina Report Card. This Report Card includes important information about school and student performance, class sizes, attendance, school safety, instructional resources, and teacher quality. There is also information about how our school measured against federal Annual Measurable Objectives (AMO) targets and the number of suspensions and expulsions in our school. As with any school, we have a lot to be very proud of, yet we have areas that undoubtedly still need to be strengthened. Our students and staff have a lot of pride in being a Bailey Bronco and know our community supports our continued growth as a school. You can see our school's full Report Card on the NCDPI website. These new school report card grades are calculated using student proficiency and student growth, which are based upon EOG & EOC performance. A weighted formula was also used with 80% for proficiency (percentage of students at or above grade level) and 20% for growth (the rate at which students learned based on projected growth) to determine the overall grade. A 15 point scale is used with an 85 benchmark as the lowest "A", 70 for the lowest "B", and so on. Bailey scored an 82, thus giving us an overall grade of a B for 2013-2014. As you can imagine, we believe that we're an "A" school, yet the

metrics used placed us just below. However, I am optimistic that the hard work of our students, staff and parents will propel us forward as we look towards continuous improvement here at Bailey. As part of this movement forward, we have been working to create a new vision statement for Bailey over the past few months to align with our "Leader In Me" initiative. Our staff and SLT have selected two statements as our finalists and now it's your turn to vote. Please use this link to access the Survey Monkey which will allow you to vote for one. Please include your Bronco in this decision as they need to be part of the process. Thanks in advance for your feedback. Bailey Middle School Spirit Days 2015 Spirit Days are wrapping up, but there's still time to check us out! We would like to invite our future students and parents to the final basketball game and tour event listed below. Thursday, February 5- Basketball game (vs. James Martin) at Bailey from 5-7 p.m. Cornelius and J.V. Washam families are invited to attend. The Cornelius Elementary Choir and Recorder Ensemble will perform at halftime of the first game (5:30 pm) and the J.V. Washam Jump Rope Team will perform between the boys and girls games (6:00 pm). Our PTSA will provide school tours during the game and the school store will also be open. Ultimately, our goal is to ensure students and parents are well informed about the experience our future middle school students will encounter at Bailey Middle in the coming years. I hope you can join us at our final 'spirit evening' to gain a better understanding of our school and how we can work together to make your child's middle school experience a success. Principal PTSA President Chad O. Thomas Erica Barozzino Spring Fundraiser kickoff Our spring fundraiser kicked off yesterday, and the prizes are better than ever! Ready, set, Run TOO Bailey has joined other Lake Norman area schools in an effort to raise awareness and funding for school based special needs programs. The 7th annual Run TOO (Together Overcoming Obstacles) Overcome is a local 10k, 5k, & kids fun run/walk that will be held on May 9th, 2015 in historic downtown Davidson, NC at 4pm. Bailey along with the many area schools will host this event to support the local special needs population. Check out this awesome video about RTO! This event is an effort to create a sense of community and raise awareness regarding children with special needs in the North Learning Community. It is our goal this year to register over 1,000 runners to support the 2015 Run TOO Overcome! The proceeds from this event will go directly to the local

participating schools Exceptional Children Departments. This is a fundraiser that will directly impact the children and families in this community! Registration for the 2015 Run TOO Overcome is currently open. Click HERE for more information or to register. Please join all the other runners from Bailey for this year's event. Proceeds are directly representative of the number of participants from Bailey. Please consider making time to commit to this worthy cause and participate in this community event for our school! Stuck on homework? Find help at your library! Tutor.com can help you get your homework done, write your paper or study for your test so that you can get back to doing the things you love. Don't get frustrated and don't stay stuck. Instead, log on to Tutor.com through Charlotte Mecklenburg Library to get the help you need, right when you need it. Tutors are available 4:00pm - midnight. Students (and parents!) can get help for any kind of academic question in math, science, English, social studies and writing. The tutors work with students in kindergarten through 12th grade and as well as AP level class work and intro-level college coursework. Connecting with a tutor is easy. You just need a library card and a computer or mobile device with internet access. Just point your browser to Char-Meck libraries, and find the blue Tutor.com box on the right hand side of the page. Connect. Learn. Go. Still have questions? Stop by your local branch (Davidson, Cornelius or North County - Huntersville) and we will be happy to help.
