CATHOLIC SCHOOLS HAVE TALENT Volume 1, Issue 1 November 2012 ADOPT-A-STUDENT First Annual Talent Show Delights Crowd November 16 Fifteen incredibly talented students highlighted the excellence of the Catholic school community by executing flawless performances at the Catholic Schools have Talent Show. The talent show extravaganza brought together performers from the four Central Catholic schools: St. Peter Marian, Holy Name, St. Bernard s, and St. Peter Central Catholic. Catholic Schools have Talent is structured like the TV show America s Got Talent. Each school held an audition stage to select their top three performers to send to the finals at Holy Name. A total of 80 acts auditioned to make the finals, all of them are quite talented. Meet our finalists inside this newsletter. The show was hosted by 2-time Worcester Entertainer of the Year and host of Woo-Tube, Dale LePage. Additionally, three celebrity judges were called upon to provide feedback to the contestants and select the top three performers of the show: Hank Stolz of WCRN, Mary Knight of WXLO, and Richard Duckett of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. Winner of First Annual Catholic Schools have Talent St. Peter Marian s Simon Ra with fellow Guardians Dianna Johnson (L) and Dezi Garcia (R) Top Three Selections of the Judges 3rd Place: Dezi Garcia SPM Dezi played guitar and sang an impassioned Wonderwall by Oasis to the delight of a vocal crowd of fellow Guardians. 2nd Place: Michael Skrzek HN Michael evoked memories of Gene Kelly and amazed the crowd with his tap dance Moses Supposes. 1st Place: Simon Ra SPM Simon brilliantly played Chopin s Revolution on the piano. His performance was regarded as the best of the evening and he took home the Star Trophy. Inside this issue: Special points of interest: St Peter Central Catholic Finalists 2 St. Bernard s High School Finalists 3 Holy Name Finalists 4 St. Peter Marian Finalists 5 Adopt-A-Student Program 6 All four of the schools celebrate the arts and showcase the talents of their students by presenting shows, musicals, and plays. Visit each of the schools to find out more or to see our students in action.

Change A Life! ADOPT-A-STUDENT Diocese of Worcester 49 Elm Street Worcester MA 01609 Phone: 508-929-4317 E-mail: info@adopt-a-student.net Our Mission Provide scholarship awards to students whose families would otherwise be unable to send their children to Central Catholic Elementary and Secondary schools in the Diocese of Worcester. Scholarships will be presented to students who are not only academically qualified but specifically seek an education in the tradition and environment of Catholic schools, thus providing society with people of faith and strong moral values. www.adopt-a-student.net What Is Adopt-A-Student? A Chance to Change a Life! Catholic schools are second to none in providing a high-quality, values-based education where students learn to respect themselves and others. But many families in our community who want a brighter, faith-filled future for their child can t afford the benefit of a Catholic school education. Recipients of Adopt-A- Student scholarships have significant financial need. Often, these are hard-working single-parent families and grandparents who are legal guardians, trying to provide an education in the tradition and environment of Catholic schools. As a result, we have seen students who were recipients of scholarship awards excel and develop into promising future leaders. A Sound Investment Since its founding in 1989 by Bishop Timothy J. Harrington, Adopt-A-Student has been coordinated almost entirely by committed volunteer leaders. With minimal overhead, Adopt-A- Student gifts, dollar-for-dollar, have a greater direct impact on a young life than most any scholarship program today. Since it's inception almost two decades ago, the Adopt-A- Student program has Awarded over $3,000,000 in grants. Presented nearly 400 students with over 1,000 scholarships for one and up to eight years. Donate Today!
