It seems to be the operative word of late. But despite the cold there is still activity at BYSC. The Junior Sailing of Beaufort oyster roast and BBQ dinner on January 1 got the year off to a good start thanks to everyone who helped out and to all those who successfully bid on the multitude of auction items. The annual SAYRA meeting was held January 24 26 in Charleston and was as always an informative and interesting weekend for those who attended. And February activities have gotten started with very good participation in both the Race Management Training class and the annual sailor s meeting on the 1 st and 2 nd. Elsewhere around the club I have seen a few hardy souls on the tennis courts and the re-roofing of the pool pump house has gotten underway. As the weather begins to warm up, things will really start to get rolling again at BYSC. So, as always, I encourage everyone to keep in mind that our club is a volunteer driven club and to find a way to get involved. There will be plenty of opportunities. Salud! Chuck Rushing Commodore
Hey Ya ll, I am ready for some sunny days. I am actively recruiting for the Pool Committee for this year, if you are interested in being a part of that please let me know. There will be a volunteer day this Saturday at 9 AM, we will be doing some landscaping and club clean up. Please come out and lend a hand! Milledge H Webb General Manager Please welcome our first new member of 2014! Charles and Nancy DePalo from NY! They are moving into town in February so please give them a big welcome when you see them!
Club Raft Up in Bull River On March 22nd/23rd there will be a club raft up in Bull River, opposite Parrot Creek in the Coosaw River where both the Sea-life and Bird-life have been spectacular. It is about a 2 hour cruise from BYSC on a fair tide) and very convenient for the Dataw owners. Lots of space, lots of water, lots of shelter and good holding. Many of the larger boats owned by members of BYSC will be heading up river for this party on the water. Both of the Junior sailing boats (Ranger and the Catalina 22) are available for Charter. Please contact Ricky Akers through the club for a booking It is hoped that we will see an amalgamation of the Cruising boats, Motor boats and Crew boats at this event. All are welcome and there will be enough real estate on the water to accommodate revelers. For those who wish to see what it is like spending a night on a boat out on the water, there are some owners who have spaces on board to accommodate guests. The Commodore has informed me that the club will provide a Keg for the event to aid in promoting this event. If anyone wishes to join us either in boat or in person, or is interested in any way, please contact Simon Jenkins at globaljenkins@gmail.com.
