JPC Cheerleading MISSION To make the sport of competitive cheerleading accessible to JPC students by providing quality cheerleading coaching within the school environment. To create an enthusiastic, positive and supportive environment where athletes can have fun learning cheerleading, make friends and improve their physical skills while they work hard to achieve their best and represent their school with pride. WHAT IS CHEERLEADING? Cheerleading is a sport in its own right, recently accepted by SportAccord, the governing body for Olympic Sports. It is extremely athletic and develops confidence through teamwork, performance and competition. Athletes learn stunting, tumbling, jump and dance skills and compete at competitions with routines incorporating all these skills. WHAT JPC CHEERLEADING HAS TO OFFER YOUR CHILD An all-inclusive, male and female sport program to encourage physical activity, team building and foster increased confidence and self-esteem. Increased fitness, strength and physical skills Quality cheerleading coaching in all aspects of competitive cheerleading Stunting, tumbling, strength and dance. Accredited and experienced coaches A culture dedicated to encouraging and fostering committed, supportive, enthusiastic and athletes Training equipment will be supplied so athletes can train safely. JPC CHEERLEADING Modus Operandi: Cheerleading at JPC is open to all students at the school wanting to participate in the sport of cheerleading. Team spirit and school spirit is encouraged. Negative behaviour will not be tolerated. All athletes are encouraged to be, supportive, courageous, inclusive and committed. Coaching will be done on school premises at an agreed time and safety training equipment will be supplied. Consideration needs to be given to adequate space for training on school grounds. The JPC Cheer team will have a uniform unique to their school, in keeping with the school colours, and approved by the school. It is anticipated JPC will have one squad however where necessary and/or appropriate the squad may need to be split into more than one team to fit in with skill level and competition structure. (NB in 2018 we are looking at offering 2 teams) Teams compete in local and national competitions to represent their school. Where possible all dates and details of competition activities and expenses will be provided at the start of the calendar year. Athletes will be offered opportunities for extra workshops to help increase their skills. Athletes have the opportunity to train with other (non-scholastic) cheer squads should they desire and will be supported in their endeavours. Athletes are expected to represent their school with pride and show good spirit and sportsmanship towards each other and competing schools. Coaching staff have the authority to remove any athlete should they feel that athlete is not adhering to the culture and purpose of JPC Cheerleading.
Training Attire JPC CHEERLEADING 2018 Training Schedule Thursday 3.45pm 5.45pm Commencing week 2 of Term 1 in the school hall JPC training TShirts will be available for an approximate cost of $35. Sizing kit and order forms will be available at registration day. Athletes are to wear clothing appropriate for exercise. Shorts and T-shirt are preferable (no denim). Clothing should allow for flexible movement and should be comfortable. T-shirts are to be worn over crop tops. Athletes need to have a pair of designated cheer shoes - see coach for more details. PLEASE NOTE: Cheer shoes are NOT to be worn outside. Athletes must bring their shoes with them to training. This is to protect the cheer flooring not only at JPC but at competitions. Competition Uniform A JPC cheerleading uniform is mandatory for all athletes participating in competition cheer at JPC. All efforts will be made to keep costs affordable. Uniform Sizing kit will be available at registration day. Uniform must be ordered and deposit paid for by 31st March 2018. IMPORTANT - 2018 Competition Schedule If you are signing up for cheerleading at JPC you are committing to the following competition schedule and the associated travel costs (competition entry fees are included in the fee structure): CanCheer Competition - Canberra Sunday 24 th June 2018 - TBC ACT Regional competition - Canberra - Sunday 12 th August 2018 CheerCon - Canberra Saturday 22nd September 2018 DCE Nationals Wollongong 27 th /28th October 2018 Please note the AASCF Scholastic Nationals have this year been moved to the Gold Coast (Gold Coast Convention Centre 23rd -25 th November). This will be optional for teams if numbers allow and will be discussed in term 2. The entry fees for this event will not be covered in the term fees, approx. cost $70

JPC CHEERLEADING Term Payment JPC Cheerleading Fees are $180 a term (GST inclusive) 2018 Fees include weekly training, insurance, competition fees, coach costs, credentialing, safety equipment, visiting specialist coaches, music, administration expenses. Fees do not cover Training TShirt, competition uniform and shoes. Payment can be via cash on registration day or by invoice. Term invoices will be sent out via email and are due week 3 of term. JPC CHEERLEADING Indemnity/Photography Form I give consent for my child, in year to attend cheerleading classes throughout the 2018 school year. In giving my permission, I understand the following terms: The instructors who will be involved in the classes are not qualified classroom teachers. They have been chosen for their specific skill and commitment to cheerleading. They have professional accreditation and Working with Vulnerable People cards. Occasionally, in order to best instruct students the instructors may have to have physical contact with my child. This may be, for example, to show children how to execute a particular move inherent in cheerleading. This will be done strictly in accordance with CEO policy, only when required and in a professional manner. We encourage full participation in the cheerleading classes, so that students may get the most out of them. However, I understand that if my child feels uncomfortable at any time with any of the instruction given, they may politely let the instructors know, and may be excused from the part of the class or instruction which makes them uncomfortable. Any particular issues or matters of concern with the classes should be discussed with your child and raised with the cheerleading instructors without delay. I understand that some of the classes will take place out of school hours and some within school hours. I will arrange appropriate pick up and drop off for my child out of school hours. I understand that there are photographs and video taken of the children while they perform and when they are at practice. These photos and video may from time to time be also used in promotional photos internally and externally within the school. I understand that every care is taken to ensure these photographs and videos are appropriate. I consent/do not consent to my child being in these photographs/video and used in promotional footage internally and externally from the school. Athletes will ask for help from a coach if they are feeling unfairly treated. Athletes are expected to respect their coach and understand that the coach s decision is final. Athletes are expected to follow coaching directives to ensure the safety of all team members. Athletes will employ safe stunting and tumbling practices. Athletes must behave appropriately in public, at events/competitions or through social media while wearing the JPC cheerleading uniform.
