RACE 2: Rosehill Gardens Event Centre Handicap 2000m: Zazabeau was slow to begin (2L). When questioned regarding Equable racing more forward, C Brown stated he had been instructed to ride the horse from its wide barrier to race in a handy position and preferably to obtain cover. He added, after commencing well, he initially attempted to obtain cover on the back of The Patriot in the early stages, however, when he was unable to do so he was obliged to allow Equable to stride forward making the first turn and race outside the leader, Merensky Reef. Trainer Mr G Ryan confirmed the instructions had been to race in a handy position. Mr Ryan indicated that he would now freshen up Equable and bring it back in distance, where it will be able to be ridden a little quieter. When questioned regarding his riding of Bold Contact and in particular the reason he made a forward move leaving the 1000m, J Ford stated that he had been instructed to ride the gelding in a forward position to take advantage of its inside barrier, as Bold Contact is somewhat one paced. He added that Bold Contact settled a little further back in the field than he had anticipated and, when the pace steadied near the 1000m, he elected to shift out to improve around the heels of Rainbow Styling, however, as he commenced to do so, Rainbow Styling also shifted out, which resulted in Bold Contact being forced four wide. J Ford added that as far out as the 700m Bold Contact was under pressure and weakened noticeably in the straight. RACE 3: Southern Sheet And Coil Handicap 1500m: No Evidence Needed commenced awkwardly and made contact with the inside of the barrier. Leaving the 1400m No Evidence Needed was steadied to avoid the heels of Modonna (App. B Avdulla), which shifted in when not clear. Approaching the 1300m Saint Chaparral was checked when crowded by Atreyu, which raced tight to the inside of No Evidence Needed, which was inclined to lay in. In the incident Atreyu, despite the efforts of its rider, commenced to overrace and shifted in away from No Evidence Needed. Sikka lost its off fore plate in running. Post race veterinary examinations of Hustle and Encosta Bell did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 4: Top Cut Steaks Handicap 1300m: Approaching the first turn near the 1000m Informality, which was inclined to overrace, was checked when crowded for room between Mr Slick, which after improving to the outside of Trader, commenced to overrace badly and shifted out, and Tiber (N Rawiller), which shifted in slightly. N Rawiller was advised to ensure he leaves sufficient racing room for runners to his inside. Mr Slick then continued to overrace badly throughout the middle stages and was restrained from the heels of Tiber for some distance. Near the 700m Buttido commenced to overrace and was restrained from the heels of Jersey Lily, which shifted in momentarily. Buttido shifted in slightly in the incident and crowded Gazza Guru. The inquiry was adjourned so that trainer Mr G Portelli could attend. Malcolm and Hairy were slow to begin. H Bowman, rider of Walking Or Dancing, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that leaving 1300m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Theophorus, resulting in Theophorus losing its rightful running and having to be checked. H Bowman s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Monday, 14 December 2009 and to expire on Tuesday, 29 December 2009, on which day he may ride. G Colless, rider of Adashim, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount to shift in after the 1300m when not clear of Walking Or Dancing and in doing so dictated that runner s line inwards, which resulted in Rockwood, positioned to the inside of Walking Or Dancing being severely checked and taken in onto Vintedge, which was also severely checked when badly crowded onto Whitefriars. As a consequence, Theophorus, which was following Rockwood, was severely checked to avoid the heels of that runner and Malcolm, which was following Theophorus, was checked to avoid that runner s heels. C Brown, rider of African Prince, stated that the gelding travelled well to the 600m at which point, when placed under pressure, failed to respond to his riding and was most disappointing. A post race veterinary examination of African Prince did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr C Waller was advised that African Prince would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to its next race start. In addition, a veterinary clearance must be furnished for African Prince prior to its next race start. When questioned regarding the improved performance of Starzando, trainer Mr B Cross stated that at the gelding s last start at Warwick Farm on 25 November 2009 it was unsuited by racing back in the field in a slowly run race and today was better suited over a longer journey, with a more even tempo in the early stages. RACE 8: Golden Slipper Festival On Sale Handicap 1500m: Near the 200m Sunday Lady was steadied to avoid the heels of Jimmy Fortunes, which shifted out slightly. H Bowman, rider of Guderian, stated that the horse did not travel well throughout the event and, after blundering near the 100m, he became concerned with its action and for this reason eased it down over the final 100m.
