Pro golf AWKWARD LIES Your near the green with not much grass under your ball and what little there is, is patchy. In this situation, choose your sand or pitching wedge to give you the proper amount of loft you need to stop your ball on the green. If your set up is right, you re well on your way to solving this difficult lie. The danger is that you'll hit behind the ball, stabbing your club head in the ground. To guard against this, place your weight in your left hip and stand closer to the ball with a more upright position. This makes your club shaft more vertical and automatically tips your club head onto its toe reducing the bounce of the club. This way less of your club head is exposed to the ground. Your upright posture also causes you to raise your hands at address protecting your wrists from over cocking. Since the heel of your club is off the ground, position the ball toward the toe of your club where you want to make contact. Striking the ball on the toe is not only safer but the slightly offcenter hit produces a much softer shot, Once you're set up correctly, your swing is the same as it is for a normal pitch shot. Hope this helps you improve your chipping Happy golfing
