AUGUST LADIES LUNCHEON by Kathy McKee PAGE 5 The August Ladies Luncheon took place at the Beaver Street Brewery off Route 66 and Beaver Street. We had a lot of laughs and a very enjoyable time together. No one there had a birthday to celebrate, so there wasn't any dessert this time, unfortunately. Those in attendance were: Shirley Rohr, Joannie Baker, Kathy McKee, Donna Veihdeffer, Alana Velez, Jann Blankenship, Julie (Jimmy's fiancé), Jackie Clark, Binnie Zink, Judy Bischoff, Kathi Westerdahl, Ann Piper, Candy Howard and Sue Miller. PAGE 6 THUNDER OVER FLAGSTAFF This year s car and plane show, held August 26th, co-sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Highlanders Car Club, was held under perfect Flagstaff weather, ie, no rain like last year. About 70 cars, of mixed variety were displayed, and the actual staging for the cars, closer to the airplane tarmac, was better than previous years. Eighteen Route 66 Car Club members exhibited their classics, which amounted to an excellent turn out. Unfortunately the as advertised Lamborghini's never showed up, however there was still much enthusiasm among the guests and participants. The main objective of the EAA was to introduce and excite children with the aeronautical industry, and they succeeded with plane and helicopter flights, however the air show was a bit Thunder Less. Next year perhaps they can entice Luke AFB to provide a fly by with F35 Joint Strike Fighters.
