Netball Dundee (Narrative page optional) Introduction Aims and objectives The aims and objectives of the Association of Netball Dundee Netball League : To offer coaching and competitive opportunities in Netball To promote the Association within the local community and Netball To manage netball primarily at games held at the Lynch Centre, Dundee or other suitably sized venues in the Dundee area. To ensure a duty of care to all members of the Association. To provide all its services in a way that is fair to everyone. To ensure that all present and future members receive fair and equal treatment. History and formation of the League With thanks to Paul McPate Director of Sport of Dundee University of Sport helping foster and encourage the early beginnings of this league of netballers in the district of Tayside. After various meetings and agreement the League was set up comprising an executive committee, suitable constitutional documents were passed and, agreement from local volutneers to assist and manage the club. Assistance and advice was also gained from Sport Dundee s Alex Knight and agreement was reached to ensure that affiliation to the National Governing Body of Netball Scotland was a pre-requisite of joinign this league. The league was formally opened by the Lord Provost Bob Duncan at the Lynch Sports Centre. On Sunday 20 th October, 2013 netballers in Dundee celebrated the launch of their first official netball league, joined also by Minister for Sport & Commonwealth Games and local Consitutency MSP Shona Robison attended the inaugural match. Also attending Ms Fiona McEwan Vice Chair of the Commonwealth Games Committee. The clubs taking part in the inaugural year were all well established clubs, who already play in other leagues including the league with Aberdeen District netball Association the clubs were keen to ensure their home ground of Dundee rapidly established a solid reputation for great netballing tournaments. Trophies and honours were gifted to the league by Dundee City Council and Dundee Academy of Sport. Organisation To gain affiliation to belong to this league is required to the national governing body of Netball Scotalnd Scotland. 2

Membership fees Membership fees paid by each club, are set annually and agreed by the Executive/ Management Committee or determined at the Annual General Meeting. Officers of the Association The officers of the Association will be: Chair Vice Chair Treasurer Secretary And any other suitable posts to assist running of the league and promotion of the organization. All officers will retire each 3 year period but can be eligible for re-appointment. Office bearers in the year With thanks to all local netball volunteers who have been invovled in running this league since 2013 Office Bearers 2014/2015 Chairman: Vice Chair/Treasurer: Technical Committee Former Executive positions held: Additional committee members: Patricia Osborne Fiona Booth Kelly Paton Lyn Paterson Susan Johnston Sharon Nicholson Lynda Sim April Mitchinson Kerry Wilson Beth Milne Review of year The league ran well for the preceeding 12 months despite setbacks including upsets and re-locations to other halls due to roofing issues with the Lynch sports centre. Various exec committee members had to step aside due to personal/work and other commitments meaning that duties were stretched. Thanks to continued commitment from clubs: Dundee University, TNT, Dundee West, Arbroath and Angus. Positives of the year included funding gained through Active Schools and Dundee Academy of Sport to secure financing to ensure members of clubs within Netball 3

Dundee were eligible to undertake Umpiring qualification courses as set out by Netball Scotland. Funding grants also obtained by Scotmid and to be invested in kit and items as previously agreed. Greater focus and planning to introduce and improve social media including: new Website regularly updated figures from score card reporting including increased activity on twitter and facebook to be reviewed and improved. Various volunteers needed to fill vital roles to be set at the AGM. Forward Planning The league is hoping to build relations with GNN and invites have been received to include Netball Dundee in building up a Tayside comparable based on the success of the Aberdeenshire model. Medium term It would be our express aim to ensure that we grow the numbers of clubs becoming involved in the league and to devise a plan to increase membership. Long term To devise a programme in conjuction with and support of Active schools and others to introduce more younger netballers into the league. 4
