2 Honeywell Buzz for Glory and Sting the Opposition with An undefeated Win! On Thursday 28th August some of our Barnsley Back to Netballers took to the courts for our Big Summer of Netball Friendly. Honeywell came with a team of players ready to meet their rivals, Exchange, who had 2 teams. The night was looking strong for Exchange who had already been training hard with their coach Mark and were on home ground! First up to play were Honeywell Vs Exchange 1 which saw Honeywell play a stormer with a 10-3 victory. Exchange 2 were there to pick up their team mates and seek some tactical advice before taking to the court for their game. Some motivational words and support from the Exchange group as up next were Exchange 2 Vs Honeywell. Despite their efforts and determination Exchange were beaten 9-1! All credit to Honeywell s performance, who left the court knowing that they were the Champions! The last game would determine 2nd and 3rd place between Exchange. Coach Mark sat tense, watching both his teams play their hearts outs. Shooters from Exchange 1 were performing under intense pressure from Exchange 2 defenders and the final whistle blew leaving the score at 5-3 to Exchange 1! Emotions leaving the court varied from competitive and determined to laughter, giggles and even some sighs of relief! Each team was asked to select their player s player. All teams displayed amazing team work and sportsmanship and each and every player took away something from the game as they left the court (the majority having a massive smile on their face)! medals were award to Honeywell and player s player received a gift for their netball talent and performance. A big thank you to Claire from Honeywell and Hannah from Exchange for umpiring the games. School of Excellence and Beyond Cancer. Mixed Teams from across the country entered the tournament, Umpires donated their time and it resulted in an excellent and successful event, encompassing competitive, contesting, skilful and exhilarating mixed fast net fun. The final took place between Pacesetters from Manchester and Geo Tech from Huddersfield, and after 20 minutes of entertaining and very fast paced Netball, Geo Tech were victorious! CCNC are now planning for, and looking forward to next year s event! Alice Harvey (England U17) - My Story I first got into netball in year 5 when my teacher (Hannah Stephenson) thought I would be good because of my height. I hated most sports before then but after this I found I actually really enjoyed running and many other sports. She then put me forward for the Humberside development academy and when I got in, I was told I had to go to a club, so I chose chevrons. I love playing at chevrons because all the coaches helped massively, so far I have been to 3 nationals with the club and hope for another one next year. This year was the first year my school team got to nationals also, we travelled down to Brighton for a brilliant weekend. I also play for chevrons senior 1st team and have played in u19 tournaments. I went to an ADP for Yorkshire Jets in 2015 where Anna Carter told me to trial for the Jets NPL. I didn't know much about NPL at this point and was thinking about not trailing. I spoke to Aleks (chevrons coach) she told me I was mad not to go, to my surprise I went and got in. The NPL was very strange because it meant I was travelling to Leeds as soon as I got home from school and not getting back until 23:30 some nights. I went to every NPL match in the season, although only played about one quarter. Right at the end of the NPL season I had a late trail for Yorkshire's regional academy, when I was accepted this meant another late training sessional in Sheffield on Wednesdays. It was at the NPL tournament in July when I got my real first taste of NPL and played in most games. This was amazing because I was playing with and against some of England's best young netballers. As a result of my performance I got asked by an England National Academy selector to go to a positional day for England and was delighted. After this I got asked to go for the final day of England National Academy camp and did fitness and match play, which was a trial for the 4 England U17 team. The next day I got an e-mail saying I was successful, I have never smiled for so long ever I don't think. We now train one weekend every month, all over the country. In between this I got moved from regional academy to regional performance academy transitional, who train twice a week in Bradford and Sheffield. I have gone from doing only club netball to England national academy all in one year! It isn't easy all the time with traveling and school, however being selected for the England U17 made it all worth it. I didn't go the normal route of trialling through the Humberside academy, then Regional academy, then an England trial, however my route worked just as well for me, you never know when playing who is watching you play, so always play your best and you will be fine. I am now working on securing my place for next year on the U17 Netball Europe squad. I feel as though the people who helped me most are Miss Stevenson, everyone at chevrons, especially Aleks Karpinska and Julie Peaks, Yorkshire Jets, especially Jan Hemsley and Anna Carter, and my parents for taking me up and down the country :)
