SOUTH OF PERTH YACHT CLUB Organising Authority APPLECROSS CUP NOTICE OF RACE South of Perth Yacht Club (Inc.) invites entries by eligible classes to participate in its premier Off The Beach Regatta, Sat 8 & 9 September 2018. The notation [DP] in a rule in the NoR means that the penalty for a breach of that rule may, at the discretion of the protest committee, be less than a disqualification. 1. RULE 1.1. The regatta will be governed by the following rules: a) The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) b) Australian Sailing Special Regulations Part 2 for Off the Beach Boats c) Australian Sailing Special Regulations Part 1 for Keelboats Category 7. d) Class rules of the respective classes (except where any of these are altered by the Sailing Instructions) will apply. e) The Sailing Instructions. 1.2. Racing rules(s) will be changed as follows: a) RRS Appendix P, Special Procedures for Rule 42 shall apply as amended in the Sailing Instructions. b) RRS Appendix T, Arbitration shall apply. c) RRS 44.1 and Appendix P2.1 are changed so that the two-turns penalty is replaced by the one-turn penalty. d) RRS 60.1(a) is changed so that (NP) denotes a rule that shall not be grounds for protest by a boat. e) RRS 63.1(a), 64.1 & Appendix A5 will be amended in the Sailing Instructions to enable the Race Committee to apply a standard penalty (SP) without a hearing for some breaches of the rules. 2. ADVERTISING [DP] Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organising authority. If this rule is broken, World Sailing Regulation 20.9.2 applies.
3. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 3.1 The regatta is open to boats of the following classes: Triple Hander Double Hander Single Hander Viper 640 Nacra 15 A Class F18 Waszp Hobie 16 Moth Flying Fifteen Finn 29er Laser (Open, Masters & Grand Masters) 125 Laser Radial (Open, Masters, Grand Masters & Womens Divisions) Pelican Laser 4.7 (Open & Womens Divisions) Minnow Open Bic Optimist (Open & Intermediate) 3.2 Competitors must be financial members of a yacht or sailing club affiliated with Australian Sailing. 3.3 A minimum of 3 entries per class will be required to constitute a fleet and be eligible to receive prizes. Refer to NoR 13.2 Prizes. 3.4 Eligibility for the Laser Masters, Grand Masters, Laser Radial Masters and Grand Masters shall be the competitor s age at Sat 8 Sept 2018. Masters age group is 45 to 54. Grand Masters age group is 55 to 64. 3.5 Classes not already invited, may apply to the OA for entry into the regatta. 3.6 The OA reserves the right to refuse entries as well as combine starts for minimum quantity fleets. 3.7 The OA may combine minimum quantity classes into a mixed fleet. 3.8 Eligible boats may enter by paying the required fee online at: https://sopyc.com.au/applecross-cup/ by 1600 hrs Friday 31 Aug 2018. 3.9 Late entries will be accepted up until 1600 hrs Thursday 6 Sept 2018 upon payment of the additional late fee. 3.10 Payment of the SOLO Series 2018 Day 1 & 2 combined, grants free entry to the Applecross Cup 2018. 4. SCHEDULE DATE TIME EVENT Thu 06 Sept 2018 1600 CLOSE OF ENTRIES Day 1 Sat 08 Sept 2018 1100 1 st warning signal 1530 No warning signal after 1530 Presentations asap after racing Day 2 Sun 09 Sept 2018 1100 1 st warning signal 1530 No warning signal after 1530 Presentations asap after racing 5.1 Number of races per day for each class will be a maximum of 5. 5.2 Classes allocated to each race day are set out below: Day 1 Classes: Viper 640, Flying Fifteen, Nacra 15/F18/Hobie 16, A Class, Waszp/Moth. Day 2 Classes: 29er, 125, Laser, Laser Radial & Laser 4.7, Finn, Pelican, Minnow, Optimist (inc. Intermediate) & Open Bic. 6. MEASUREMENT 6.1 All competing boats shall conform to the measurement requirements of their respective class rules and have valid measurement certificates prior to this regatta. These valid measurement certificates should be brought to the regatta. 6.2 Random measurement checks and inspections may be carried out during the regatta. 7. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS The sailing instructions will be available after Thursday 6 Sept 2018 on the event website: https://sopyc.com.au/applecross-cup/ 8. VENUE 8.1 Attachment A shows the location of the regatta harbour. 8.2 Attachment B shows the location of the racing areas. 9. THE COURSES The courses to be sailed will be as described in the sailing instructions.
10. SCORING 11.1 The low point scoring system, Appendix A shall apply. 11.2 3 races are required to be completed to constitute a series. 11.3 When fewer than 4 races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores. 11.4 When 4 or more races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. 12. SUPPORT/COACH BOATS [DP] 12.1 Support and coach boats shall register online: https://sopyc.com.au/applecross-cup/ with the OA. 12.2 All support and coach boats shall keep clear of the racing area while boats are racing (except when rendering assistance to a boat in distress). 12.3 Support and coach boats shall remain at least 50 metres outside areas where boats are racing from the time of preparatory signal until all boats have finished or the Race Committee signals a postponement, general recall or abandonment. 12.4 All support and coach boats are required to have a VHF radio and maintain a listening watch on VHF ch. 77 or any other channel specified by the Race Committee. 12.5 When requested by the Race Management Team, support and coach boats shall render immediate assistance as and when directed. 13. PRIZES 13.1 Prizes will be presented at a ceremony held at South of Perth Yacht Club commencing as soon as practicable after the last race on each day. All competitors, family, friends and volunteers are invited to attend. 13.2 Prizes will be awarded for each race as per the following schedule: 1 st Fleets of 3 or more boats 1 st, 2 nd & 3 rd Fleets of 6 or more boats 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd & 4 th Fleets of 12 or more boats 1 st, 2 nd & 3 rd Mixed fleets based on YV Yardstick 1 st Special categories within fleets
13.3 Junior sailors who enter and sail in an Open or Intermediate fleet may be recognized for outstanding performance at the discretion of the Organising Authority. 13.4 Prizes will also be awarded to 1 st, 2 nd & 3 rd overall in the Solo Series and Applecross Cup combined in each fleet. 13.5 Prize winners shall be present to collect the prize in person. 14. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. 15. INSURANCE Each participating boat shall be insured with a valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of AUD10 million per incident or the equivalent. 16.
