Winter I'm talking about, as well as daylight savings time in a few weeks. Puts us much closer to being able to fly outdoors again! We've been informed by Steve Peck that he has been in touch with the SAC Air and Space Museum in Ashland. The museum is planning a two day radio control aircraft flying/static display event. It will be a Saturday/Sunday on March 26th and 27th. Of course, our club has been invited to participate and I encourage you to do so. More visibility for the club and a means of gaining new members Keep at those winter projects! Don't let the good weather sneak up on you and leave yourself unprepared without a plane. Also, make sure your other mainstay aircraft are ready for the upcoming season. Best Regards Rick Miller Vice-President s Corner Yes, it was very cold early in February, and we had a bad snow storm to go with it. That caused us to postpone the February meeting a week. By that time, really cold weather had arrived, and not too many club members wanted to venture out for the makeup meeting. The weather can only get better, maybe. So try and make the March meeting on the 1st. Not sure how many will participate in the SAC Museum flying and static display at the end of the month. But it could be good exposure for our club and hobby. Additional details have been provided in the article below from Steve Peck. Contact Steve if you are interested. Are all of you remembering to use the Rewards Program... Next Meeting 7:00 PM Tuesday March 1st, Papio-Missouri River NRD Center Chalco Hills, 154th Street & Giles Road Note: enter north end lower level of building HobbyTown? By mentioning Western Flyers, they will credit the club 1 percent of your purchase price. The club redems these credits to apply towards raffle prizes used in club events. According to Dean Copeland, our Treasurer, we have gained some new members in the club. Welcome all! A new and improved map showing exactly how to get to Mead Field will soon be on the club's website. Also, a video (posted to YouTube) will be made that takes you from the highway south from the town of Mead to the flying field itself. That should help those having difficulty finding it. For you new folks, it is actually easy to get there. Did anyone recognize the aircraft depicted above? It is an Australian Albatross that was under production by the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC) circa 1940s. The raffle at the February meeting for the $25.00 gift card to HobbyTown was won by Rick Johnson. Come to the next meeting and have a chance at winning the gift card. Come Fly! Treasurer's Report - February A copy of the February Financial Report will be passed out at the March 1st meeting. RAFFLE for $25.00 Gift Certificate HobbyTown Club Monthly Meeting Show N' Tells = 4 free tickets Tickets $1 each or $5 for six. Thanks! Dean Copeland Club Meeting Minutes - 1 Feb Rumors, Gossip, & Signs of Decay I ordered several items from Hobby King including a 2.4 radio and receiver for the bargain price of $29. The items took nearly a month to get here, though the shipping charge was approx. $30. It is shipped under the false pretense of being a gift and went through Switzerland. Furthermore the order was incomplete. I tried twice to contact their customer service which was impossible. They are closed for 15 days to celebrate the Chinese New Year. I think it is the year of "Bad Service." To say that I am unhappy is putting it mildly. I know many others have bought from them successfully, but not me. I paid and they shipped poorly. Additionally the radio comes with no instructions, was poorly packed, and frankly the whole order sucks. Should you choose to do business with them be aware of my experience. Steve Peck and I were the Auctioneers at the Lincoln Auction on Feb. 5 th. It was good time for everyone. Several Great deals were there for the taking, and a couple of our guys got some great deals. The Sky Knights are good group and hosted the event well. The food (I call it Moose Meat) was tasty and affordable. The event started at 8 am and was over by 2:30 pm. There were about 180 items pretty much the average for this auction. I am working on checking in an estate from New York though there are many collectable engines I will have some reasonable 4 Cycles 4 sale shortly. I should have an OS open rocker arm 60, which is great for an old timer and at least 1 OS 20 the smallest 4 cycle commercially made. If you re interested you can call me at home 402-334-0122. Regards! Bob Boumstein Membership Renewal Deadline April 1st You may send your dues to Treasurer Dean Copeland Several club members were present for the monthly meeting. Vice President Nelson Carpenter called meeting to order at 7:05pm. Old Business: Raffle: $25 Raffle for Hobby Town Gift Certificates will continue as discussed. Motion made and seconded. Calendar of Events: Events List on Metro RC (Internet) has been updated. Bud Hall Event updated to not require IMAA. Fun Fly Event Dates: 08/13-14/ - Bud Hall Fun Fly 08/20-21/ - Lincoln Sky Knights Scale Auction: No auction this year. It is not listed in Calendar of Events on Metro RC. Maybe we should list that we are not having an auction to avoid confusion. Mead Field Map: Online: Motion made and seconded to give more details/directions for the map to the Mead Field on the web site. Upcoming Events: 1.) January 9, - Grand Island Auction (No Discussion) 2.) February 6, - Lincoln Sky Knights Auction (165 Items for Auction, Aprox. 175 people in attendance.) Treasurer Report: Club had gain of $98.68 for month. New Business: Reminder: Memberships are delinquent after March 31,. There is no penalty for being delinquent. Second Field: There was much discussion regarding acquisition of a second field. Mead Field Staff: There was discussion about doing something nice for the staff that supports our use of the Mead Field. A motion was made and seconded that we will provide sandwiches or cookies for the office staff. Club Charter: Task was given to Rick Johnson (Secretary) to file Club Charter and fees with the AMA. Needs to be updated with Club Officers for. Non-Profit Registration: Task was given to Rick Johnson (Secretary) to contact an attorney about filing the Western Flyers Non-Profit Registration with the State of Nebraska. Show-N-Tell: Dean Copeland: 1.) Brought the scratch built instrument panel for the twin engine Cri Cri he is building from plans. 2.) Brought the scratch built throttle quadrant and switches for the Cri Cri too. They will be reactive during plane flight. Rick Johnson: 1.) Brought a new Great Planes Sopwith Pup. 30" wingspan and weights 208 grams. Made of Depron and light ply. No maiden flight yet. Nelson Carpenter: 1.) Brought a work-in-progress Spectra he has been building from plans he purchased from RCM Magazine. It uses a series of bell cranks for control of tail surfaces and throttle, but that may be changed with addition of servos in the tail instead. February Show N' Tell First with his show n' tell was Rick Johnson. He brought a Great Planes Sopwith Pup ARF. It is all foam weighing 208 grams, less the battery. Wingspan is 28 inches. Rick has a Hobby King outrunner motor for power. Winner of $25 Gift Certificate to Hobby Town was Rick Johnson. Thanks! Rick Johnson SAC Museum R/C Flying and Static Display The Strategic Air & Space Museum has invited you for the weekend of March 26th and 27th (Saturday/Sunday) to participate in an R/C display and club introduction event. If the weather permits you can fly outside as well as inside. For sure we will be flying inside. There will be places for slow flying aircraft, helicopters, and 3D type aircraft. So charge up your batteries and bring a charger so you can get a day or two of flying. Let Steve Peck know if you will be flying so he can make up an agenda for the three areas. The important part is that you will be able to present your Club to the people. Bring old flying magazines to give away, pictures of club activities, an explanation of where the club flies, and membership forms to sign up new members. It is a great opportunity to increase club membership and show people what we do. A table will be provided for you so bring a table cloth and the things you will display and give away. The tables need someone there between the open hours of 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. What a good time to look around the museum which is a very positive part of our community. For any questions contact Steve Peck at 402 763 8577. Below you see Nelson Carpenter with his Spectra built from RCM plans. It is an amphibian with motor mounted on the pod up high out of the water. A 90 four-stroke is planned for the 72" wingspan Spectra. It is actually a 1/6th scale model of the full size built by Island Aircraft. The entire fuselage/flying hull is to be sheeted and fiberglassed. Cont Tailspin Page 3 of 8 MARCH

February Show N' Tell Cont. Shown by Dean Copeland was the panel for his 1/2 scale Cri-Cri. Dean also had the controls that he built for the throttles of the twin engine airplane. As expected, they were highly detailed and looked excellent. Dean's intent is to have this unusual aircraft ready for the Top Gun competition in Florida. Western RC Flyers Website http://www.weflyrc.org REWARDS PROGRAM Remember Hobbytown s Reward Program. With every purchase by a WF member, the club receives a credit for an amount equal to 1 percent of your purchase. Be sure to mention your Western Flyers affiliation when making a purchase at either Hobbytown location. Tailspin Page 4 of 8 MARCH

Thursdays Indoor Flying There are approximately six to ten club members who gather at the indoor soccer center for a few hours on Thursdays during the winter. We meet there around 1pm to get out the cob webs, and try to maintain some proficiency with our flying. Photos shown are selfexplanatory of the aircraft we fly and who is flying. Come join us. Photo of one indoor flyer with his head cut off is Dean Dingman. (Sorry Dean.) - ALERT - The FAA will be adding new regulations for model airplane flying! Factors are safety and operation. You need to read AMA's information on this issue and stay informed. The rules are to be announced in June.
