Good news folks! FWC has deemed southern Collier County and Marco Island free of red tide. Farther North however its not the case. I experienced the effects of it first-hand getting ready for the Kayusa Cup. I got in the water to clean the bottom my boat which is off Fort Myers Beach and got immediately sick and two week later still getting over it. Nothing to mess with for sure. Probably affected my selfie skills when we were out there as you can see in the picture This month we have our very own Jerry Watkins and Frank Brown sharing their experiences during the Chicago to Makinac Island on Lake Michigan at our monthly meeting. Liable to very entertaining. The very successful Tequila acing series continues thanks to Patrick Evans on Oct 13 th. Also Sugden small boat sailing starts again on Sunday October 21 st. We have removed the BBQ portion of Sugden due to logistics and just asking everyone to bring their own food or a snack to share. The sailing calendar will be packed with Summerset off Fort Myers Beach the first weekend of the month and Naples Commodores Cup at the end of the month. See you on the water. Membership Meeting Wednesday, October 10 th at 6 pm Harold s Place on Hwy 41 - in Naples (north of Golden Gate) Jerry Watkins, Fred Hall and Frank Brown will tell us their story of the Mackinaw Race 2018. It s a good one! JOIN US! 120 th Chicago Race to Mackinac Island By Frank Brown, and a little help from Jonnie Westerop TEAM SW FL were onboard ALMOST HEAVEN in Cruising Class #1 (PINK FLEET), starting at 4:20 PM Friday 7/20. The first morning of their journey to deliver the boat 222 miles to the start of the race in Chicago, started out foggy, and eventually cleared up enough to hoist their spinnaker and make quick progress to their destination. The crew of 7 included 4 of our sailors from SW Florida, GCSC members Captn. Frank Brown, Captn. Fred Hall, Captn. Jerry Watkins, with their fellow sailor and member of CMCS, Captn. Cecil Hazen (aka McGuiver). Almost Heaven finished 7 th out of 20 ships in their class. They stopped in Raccine for fuel, Jerry went up the mast, and they continued on the journey to the amazing Chicago skyline. They had beautiful views of the harbor from their hotel rooms, and the Chicago Yacht Club was fabulous. The crew of Almost Heaven started the Race to Mackinac at 4:20 PM on Friday the 20 th of July spinnaker blazing. For 6 hours they were flying until the boat started to lift from the heavy winds, the spinnaker had to come down as they raced toward the finish line. Sadly, a sailor on a different boat fell over board and lost his life. Difficult race, indeed. Mackinac Island

Tequila Racing Series - Saturday, October 13 th. Alternating Saturdays 11 AM to 2PM 2018 Dates Octo 13 - Pre and post race meetings to be determined. - Informal racing with rabbit starts - Contact Patrick Evans for details on the summer event at pevcor@aol.com or call (630) 803 6511. 8-18-18 - Fellow Tequila Racers- Beautiful clear blue skies a light breeze and its only 8AM. At 10:45AM Sundance was moving easily at 4 knots fifteen minutes passed NO knots. We started the race in close quarters and no wind. A few minutes later the wind picked up and the fleet spread out over a mile, searching for wind. Grand Cru, Weird Kitty and T-Bone located the wind offshore and took off with Jason in the lead. All the boats turned at Naples Pier and started a fantastic windward leg hitting 5 knots. Sundance made it back to its berth at 2PM lowest tide and we made it without grounding. Can the beginning of a day get any better? I think not. Thanks to the competitors! Patrick--

The Search for Perpetual Trophies by Chris Hagen Where are they? Sailor's we are in the middle of a scavenger hunt and need your help. We are trying to collect all of the perpetual trophies this summer so we can get them updated for this upcoming season. I have been collecting a few and I know there are some others pretty readily accessible. However, I would like to get them all collected and get the plaques updated. We can then present them again at our first full seasonal meeting. Attached is a spreadsheet I have set up noting the trophies. I need your assistance in finding out who may have these and which are missing. I'd like to continue work on this until we can fill in all the blanks, collect all the trophies, and get them updated. If you won a trophy in the past please realize it is time to give it back. Chris will be bringing the Capt Crunch Trophy back we are all interested in seeing what that one looks like. Thanks!
