news Merry Christmas Issue 68 Summer 2013

President s report Good luck to new council Dear Members and Residents, Following the successful de-amalgamation vote earlier this year Noosa has now voted in Noel Playford as our Mayor and six councillors who will lead our new Council from 1 January 2014. We wish them every success for what is sure to be a very busy and challenging initial two year term. Christmas Home Lighting Competition There were some fantastic decorations last year. Now is the time to be planning your decorations for our Christmas home lighting competition for wet and dry blocks. It will be judged week commencing 16 December. Boat Parade Friday 20 December 2013 Last year s parade was our best yet. A big effort was put into decorating boats and homes and there were many parties. The boat parade will commence at 6.45 pm on Friday 20 December. It will start from the eastern end of Saltwater Avenue and Shorehaven Drive. The route will be the same as last year. The route map is on our web site at www.noosawaters.org/events.html The Noosa Coast Guard will lead out the parade and signal the start with two air horn blasts. Skippers please be patient and remain in single file. The last boat will contain the Noosa Waters African Drummers. Could all skippers ensure that their navigation lights are working and add extra lighting to the rear of their vessels so as to make them more visible to following boats. To help ensure a safe parade it would be appreciated if jetties and moored vessels could be illuminated and any crab pots removed. If the parade has to be cancelled due to bad weather we will try again on Saturday 21 December at 6.45 pm. Whether watching from the shore or participating on a boat we hope that everyone has a very enjoyable and safe evening. Successful Year The Association has had a very successful year. After a four year campaign the Villa Noosa Hotel has withdrawn its application to extend its trading hours to 5 am each day. Council, after two frustrating years, has started work on remediation of the canal beds. This process could take 12 months. On behalf of your Management Committee I wish you and your families a Happy and Safe Christmas and a great 2014. Gary Trevithick President Issue 68 Summer Edition 2013 2

Secretary s report SUBSCRIPTIONS for Noosa Waters Residents Association ARE NOT DUE at the end of the calandar year but at the start of the financial year. If you are a paid up member PLEASE DO NOT RENEW YOUR SUBSCRIPTION BEFORE 1ST JULY 2014. If you join now you will need to renew your subscription after the 1st July 2014. Please be aware that recent sightings seem to confirm there are reasonable sized sharks still in our canal system. Any sightings should be reported to Council. Kay Passenger Secretary Landscaping report Great to have our council It is very pleasing writing this report knowing that we will soon have our very own Noosa Council back for the next quarter. I would again like to thank all the volunteers who quietly work away in their own area of the estate. I know for some as the dreaded old age creeps up, it becomes more difficult to apply oneself with the same vigour as in previous times. A very big thank you to Barry Maloney, who kindly offered to help with the cleaning of the fountain. We are still having problems with the fountain as the Pandanus have grown to such an extent, the fronds are dropping in to the ponds and clogging the inlet. The arborist is very hesitant to trim the pandanus, so we have work in progress with this matter. I would like to express my disappointment that the stainless sign at Riverbreeze and Gibson Road [eastern side] the stainless anti-graffiti coating has been badly affected by the sunlight [UV]. Entry statement on Riverbreeze Ave and Gibson Rd I had offered the committee that I would remove, and at no cost, try and buff the stainless with my materials, and if not successful, we could place a thin laminate over the top at not a great cost. Unfortunately I was informed I was too fussy, and the statement at Saltwater looks great, so do not worry about Riverbreeze as it is not a major entry to our estate. I am not elected to management committee so I do not have a vote on this matter. Wishing all, a Safe and Healthy Christmas and New Year. John Langdon Noosa Waters Landscaping. Ahoy There all watercraft owners Become a member of the Coast Guard Subscription forms are available from Alan Hall. Call 07 5474 3695 or email dfc.qf5@coastguard.com.au Enjoying life and having fun keeps Barry young Barry Maloney loves people and since moving to Noosa Waters in 2007 from Adelaide he has been the catalyst for promoting awareness and recognition for others who give back to the community. He is also responsible for organizing many delightful boat trips, ran the Christmas Flotilla for six years and started up the highly successful Bloke s lunch held on the last Friday of every month. On Queensland Day 6th June 2009 as part of the Queensland 150th year celebrations Barry organized a time capsule to be placed under the lawn at the foot of the Noosa Waters fountain. There will be a huge celebration when the capsule is reopened on the 6th June 2019. Thank you Barry for your humanitarianism. Barry Maloney relaxing at home in Noosa Waters. The Noosa Waters Sports & Social Group headed by Deirdre Williams put on another fantastic annual Ball on Saturday 14th September. What a wonderful night it was. Over 80 residents and friends donned masks and danced the night away at the Lakes Convention Centre. Geraldine Black, Sue Smalley and many volunteers transformed the room with over 60 handmade masks decorating the tables and walls. These were auctioned off at the end of the night by Master of Ceremonies David Peel. The date for next year s main event is Saturday 18th October 2014. Issue 68 Summer Edition 2013 4

Croquet in Noosa Waters Playing Croquet is a pleasant and relaxed way to keep fit. You can play socially or compete fiercely in competition. Take advantage of this great facility right on your doorstep! Many residents of Noosa Waters will have walked past the Noosa Croquet Club in Seashell Place and admired its attractive lawns and settings, many others may not even know it exists it is a well-kept secret! The Club has 5 courts, which are regarded as amongst the best in Queensland, certainly on the Sunshine Coast. The setting and grounds are attractive and the Clubhouse caters for croquet players and is available for other community events. The Club has just changed its fee structure for the 2013/14 year and is on a drive to attract new members. Instead of paying fees up-front, new members are now offered a month s free play with lessons and use of equipment, then a yearly fee of just $247.00, and a pay as you play fee of $5.00 for the first session (am or pm), $3.00 for the second and $2 for the third (capped at $10 per week). This means that members can play regularly for little cost, and can practice for free. Come and Try sessions are held regularly on the first Sunday of each month at 10.00 a.m. Organised session times are shown on the gate. There are three codes played so times may vary. The best way to start is with Golf Croquet held on Monday mornings, Tuesday afternoons, Thursday mornings and Sunday afternoons. Ring the President on 5440 5741 or the Secretary on 5455 5119 for more information, attend a Come and Try or just drop in any time on your walk and talk to a member. We will be happy to welcome you. The committee would like to thank Deirdre Williams for her fantastic work as chair of the Sports & Social Group over the last 18 months and especially for the huge success of the Masquerade Ball in September 2013. One of the most important aims of the different groups being formed in the estate was to enable folk to participate and try new things. Anyone interested in being involved with the social committee can contact Cathie Martin on 0416 032 578 or email socialevents@noosawaters.org Membership of the Association All property owners and long-term tenants of properties in Noosa Waters are eligible to become members of the Association.
