87099_1.book Page v Tuesday, January 27, 2009 12:45 PM v Contents Preface Warnngs and cautons WARNING: Product nstallaton & operaton Ths equpment must be nstalled, commssoned and operated n accordance wth the Raymarne nstructons provded. Falure to do so could result n personal njury, damage to your boat and/or poor product performance. WARNING: Swtch off power supply Ensure the boat s power supply s swtched OFF before startng to nstall ths product. Do NOT connect or dsconnect equpment wth the power swtched on, unless nstructed n ths document. WARNING: Ensure safe navgaton Ths product s ntended only as an ad to navgaton and must never be used n preference to sound navgatonal judgment. Only offcal government charts and notces to marners contan all the current nformaton needed for safe navgaton, and the captan s responsble for ther prudent use. It s the user s responsblty to use offcal government charts, notces to marners, cauton and proper navgatonal skll when operatng ths or any other Raymarne product. WARNING: Potental gnton source Ths product s NOT approved for use n hazardous/flammable atmospheres. Do NOT nstall n a hazardous/flammable atmosphere (such as n an engne room or near fuel tanks). CAUTION: Replaceable parts Ths product does not contan any user servceable parts. Please refer all repar requrements to an authorzed Raymarne dealer. Unauthorzed repars may affect your warranty. Electromagnetc Compatblty (EMC) conformance Raymarne equpment and accessores conform to the approprate Electromagnetc Compatblty (EMC) regulatons for use n the recreatonal marne envronment. Correct nstallaton s requred to ensure that EMC performance s not compromsed. Always check the nstallaton before gong to sea to make sure that t s not affected by rado transmssons, engne startng or other forms of nterference. To do ths: 1. Turn on all transmttng equpment (radar, VHF rado, etc). 2. Check that all electronc systems are unaffected by nterference from the transmttng equpment.

87099_1.book Page v Tuesday, January 27, 2009 12:45 PM v ST70+ Installaton Gude EMC nstallaton gudelnes Raymarne equpment and accessores conform to the approprate Electromagnetc Compatblty (EMC) regulatons. Ths mnmzes electromagnetc nterference between equpment, whch could otherwse affect the performance of your system. Correct nstallaton s requred to ensure that EMC performance s not compromsed. For optmum EMC performance, we make the followng recommendatons: Place Raymarne equpment and cables at least 3 ft (1 m) from any equpment that transmts, or cables that carry, rado sgnals from VHF rados, cables and antennas. In the case of SSB rados, the dstance should be ncreased to 7 ft. (2 m). Place Raymarne equpment and cables more than 7 ft (2 m) from the path of a radar beam. A radar beam can normally be assumed to spread 20 degrees above and below the radatng element. Use a power source separate from that used for engne-start. Ths s mportant to prevent erratc behavor and data loss whch can occur f the engne-start does not have a separate battery. Use Raymarne-specfed cables. Do not cut or extend cables unless dong so s detaled n the nstallaton manual. Remember Where constrants on the nstallaton prevent any of the above recommendatons: Always allow the maxmum separaton possble between dfferent tems of electrcal equpment. Ths wll provde the best condtons for good EMC performance of the nstallaton. Suppresson ferrtes Raymarne cables may be ftted wth suppresson ferrtes. These are necessary for correct EMC performance. Any ferrte removed durng nstallaton must be replaced as soon as nstallaton s complete. Use only ferrtes of the correct type, suppled by Raymarne authorzed dealers. Connectons to other equpment If Raymarne equpment s to be connected to other equpment usng a cable not suppled by Raymarne, a Raymarne suppresson ferrte MUST always be attached to the cable near the Raymarne unt. Pressure washng Do NOT pressure wash any Raymarne product. Subjectng any Raymarne product to hgh pressure washng may cause subsequent water ntruson and falure of the product. Raymarne wll not warranty product subjected to hgh pressure washng.

Before startng any sea tral or other open water calbraton, carry out the Transducer setup and Mscellaneous setup procedures (below). Transducer setup CAUTION: Before startng any docksde setup procedure, ensure the boat s securely moored alongsde. Use these docksde setup procedures to set: Correct depth offset and sea temperature. Requred method for calculatng ground wnd. Correct magnetc varaton. Requred dsplay response. Trm tab calbraton. Introducton to transducer setup Depth, speed and temperature data are derved from transducers n the boat s hull. Ether of the followng transducer confguratons may be ftted to provde ths data: Conventonal transducers,.e. separate Depth and Speed, wth the water temperature sensor bult nto the Speed transducer Smart transducers (ether combned Depth/Speed/Temperature (DST) or combned Depth/Temperature (DT) transducers). A Wnd transducer may also be ftted, to provde wnd speed and drecton nformaton. Depth offset and sea temperature must be calbrated as part of the Docksde setup, but the exact method for calbratng these parameters depends on whch transducers are ftted: Wth conventonal transducers, the Depth offset and water temperature are calbrated separately. Wth a smart transducer, the depth offset and water temperature setup are part of one contnuous procedure. The speed and wnd functons are calbrated later as part of the Open water calbraton.

If an offset s not appled, the dsplayed depth readngs are from the transducer to the sea bed. Before attemptng to set a waterlne or keel offset, fnd out the vertcal separaton between the transducer and ether the waterlne or the bottom of the keel on your vessel, as approprate. See Fgure 3-1.
