1 Chapter 1: General nformaton 1.1 Introducton Ths manual provdes commssonng and other setup nformaton for ST70+ dsplays and assocated keypad controllers. It s also ntended for users who want to more fully understand the concepts of ST70+ and want to get the most out of ther product. For day-to-day use of ST70+, refer to the ST70+ Operatng Gude. 1.2 Product bascs An ST70+ system comprses one or more dsplays controlled by one or more keypads. Durng ntal setup, an ST70+ dsplay s set up to functon as ether an Instrument or a Plot Controller. The ntal setup s part of the commssonng procedure (see Chapter 2:, Commssonng Procedures). D11039-1 Dsplay nstrument keypad Plot Controller keypad (power boat) Plot Controller keypad (sal boat) Concept ST70+ dsplays are controlled by remote keypads, as follows: Instrument keypads control dsplays set up as Instruments. One type of Plot Controller keypad s used on sal boats to control dsplays set up as Plot Controllers. Another type of Plot Controller keypad s used on power boats to control dsplays set up as Plot Controllers. In any ST70+ system, dsplays and keypads can be confgured n convenent groups. For example, a system could comprse three Instrument groups (chart table, helm and mast), plus two Plot Controller groups (port helm and starboard helm). A dsplay or dsplay group can be controlled only by a keypad of the approprate type. Keypad controls & control functons All ST70+ setup and operatng functons are controlled by the keypad buttons. All keypads have: Power button. Swtches power on and off. Select Dsplay button. Used n systems wth more than one dsplay, to select the dsplay you want to control or set up. One press hghlghts the currently selected dsplay. If you press Select Dsplay agan whle the currently selected dsplay s hghlghted (.e. wthn 6 seconds), ths selects the next dsplay n the system or group. Repeatng ths acton enables you to select each dsplay n turn. CANCEL button. Used durng setup procedures to leave a setup functon wthout makng any changes.

Selects the Man Menu whch gves access to: Wnd Vane mode. AutoTack Port and Starboard - Sal boats only. Setup and reset functons. Self test routnes and dagnostc nformaton. The dsplayed Plot vew - plan, 2D or 3D (hold down). -1 and +1 buttons. Used to: Change course, when usng the autoplot to steer the boat. One degree to port or one degree to starboard, respectvely. Scroll to dfferent menu optons and change setup values, when settng up. -10 and +10 buttons. Used to change course, when usng the autoplot to steer the boat. Ten degrees to port or ten degrees to starboard, respectvely. OK button. used to confrm setup actons and values. AUTO button. Engages autoplot control. STANDBY button. Returns to manual control. TRACK button. Engages Track mode. DODGE button. Interrupts autoplot control to enable you to steer around obstacles on your plotted course. Rotate to scroll to dfferent menu optons and change setup values. AUTO button. Engages autoplot control. STANDBY button. Returns to manual control. TRACK button. Engages Track mode. DODGE button. The manner n whch you scroll to a functon or value you want and confrm your selecton, depends on keypad type. Scrollng. To scroll to an opton or set a value, ether: Press the < and > buttons on the sal boat Plot Controller keypad, or Turn the Rotary Control on the power boat Plot Controller keypad or the Instrument keypad OK functon The manner n whch you confrm, (.e. OK ) selectons and edted values depends on whch keypad type you are usng. On a salboat Plot Controller keypad, press and release the OK button. Frst use after nstallaton The frst part of the commssonng procedure s ntal setup (summarzed n Fgure 1-1). Ths starts automatcally on when a dsplay s frst swtched on after nstallaton. Each group s controlled by a common keypad or keypads. For example, you could group together all Instruments ftted at the helm and control them wth a sngle keypad. When groupng dsplays together, the followng rules apply: All dsplays n a group must be set to be the same type,.e. all Instruments or all Plot Controllers. A group can be just one dsplay, or a number of dsplays up to a maxmum of four. The keypad(s) allocated to a group must be approprate to the dsplay functon,.e. Instrument keypad for Instrument groups, Plot Controller keypad for Plot Controller groups. OK D11148-1

Chapter 1: General nformaton 7 1.4 Normal operaton ST70+ Plot Controllers and Instruments are controlled by dedcated Plot Controller keypads and Instrument keypads, respectvely. There two types of Plot Controller keypad, one for sal boat nstallatons, another for power boats. Plot Controllers ST70+ Plot Controllers are used to control Raymarne autoplots. A summary of generc ST70+ Plot Controller day-to-day functons s shown n Fgure 1-3. Sal boat functons In addton to the generc Plot Controller functons n Fgure 1-3, Plot Controllers on sal boats also have access to Wnd Vane and AutoTack modes of autoplot operaton. These are accessed va the Plot Controller Man menu. Wnd Vane mode. Wnd Vane mode automatcally mantans the boat s headng wth respect to the wnd angle. Thus f the wnd angle changes, the boat s headng changes accordngly to mantan the same relatve wnd angle (see ST70+ Operatng Gude). AutoTack operaton AutoTack enables you to select pre-defned tack operatons.tack port and Tack starboard optons are avalable. When usng AutoTack outsde of Wnd Vane mode (standard AutoTack), the AutoTack angle s the angle between a port tack and a starboard tack. The default angle s 100. Ths can be changed n User calbraton (see page 55). When usng AutoTack n Wnd Vane mode, the tack angle relatve to the wnd on one tack s mrrored on the other sde of the wnd on the next tack. Refer to the ST70+ Operatng Gude for detals of how to use AutoTack.

Chapter 1: General nformaton 11 1.5 System nformaton ST70+ dsplays and keypads connect to Raymarne SeaTalk ng systems. Further nformaton on SeaTalk ng s gven n the SeaTalk ng Reference Manual. When connected to a SeaTalk ng system, the ST70+ dsplays repeat the data on the bus. You can set the dsplay response as requred. You can set the system varaton only f t has not been set at another product. You can also calbrate the system transducers and set the data unts you want to apply to the system. Power protocol Power to ST70+ s swtched on and off usng the power button (as descrbed n the ST70+ Operatng Gude). However, where nstruments are part of a system, t may be more convenent to swtch power for the entre system from a central crcut breaker. In ths case, when system power s swtched ON agan: ST70+ nstruments that were swtched on when power was last swtched off wll return to the swtched ON state. ST70+ nstruments that were OFF when system power was last swtched OFF wll reman OFF and wll need to be swtched ON ndvdually usng ther power buttons.

The procedures gven n ths manual are those for a typcal Raymarne autoplot system. If necessary adapt the procedures n ths manual to sut your system. Open water calbraton. 4. Checkng autoplot operaton. If your ST70+ product s connected to an exstng SeaTalk ng system that has already been successfully commssoned, you do not need to commsson the system agan. Autoplot calbraton The detaled requrement for autoplot calbraton s determned by the autoplot. The autoplot calbraton procedures n ths chapter are those for a typcal Raymarne autoplot system. If necessary adapt these procedures to sut your system. If you need assstance, please contact your Raymarne dealer. Control nformaton As the ST70+ dsplays do not have ftted controls, all control actons are made at the approprate ST70+ keypad. Wherever an nstructon calls for a button to be pressed or a control to be operated, ths refers to the approprate keypad. 2.2 Intal setup Carry out the ntal setup procedures n the followng sequence: Swtch on. Selectng language. Settng vessel type. Settng dsplay types and groups. Allocate keypad. Set date and tme format (only f GPS s ftted). Set correct local tme (only f GPS s ftted). Set requred data unts.

When an ST70+ system s frst swtched on after nstallaton, one dsplay shows a select Language menu. Ths s the actve dsplay Language Englsh (UK) Other dsplays show a Select Dsplay con. Press OK to select If necessary use the Select Dsplay button on any ST70+ keypad to select another dsplay as the actve dsplay,.e. so t shows the select Language menu. Chapter 2: Commssonng Procedures 15 Settng Vessel Type The Vessel Type menu enables you to automatcally apply the optmum system settngs for your vessel type. The optons are: Race Sal Inboard Speed Boat Sal Cruser Power Cruser 1* Catamaran Power Cruser 2* Workboat Power Cruser 3* RIB Sport Fshng Outboard Speed Boat Pro Fshng *Power Cruser settngs. Note that the Power Cruser settngs apply as follows: Power Cruser 1 - vessels capable of speeds up to 12 knots. Power Cruser 2 - vessels capable of speeds up to 30 knots. Power Cruser 3 - vessels capable of speeds greater than 30 knots. Select type Scroll to select the vessel type that most closely corresponds to your vessel. When you have chosen the vessel type, press OK to confrm the choce. The Tme and Date values and the data Unts consdered most approprate for the Language and Vessel Type you chose, are then automatcally appled to your ST70+ system and an automatc check of system parameters s carred out. On completon, a System confguraton page s present all dsplays n the system. Settng dsplay types and groups You must now: Select the dsplay you want to set up. Set the dsplay type for each dsplay (Instrument or Plot Controller). Allocate each dsplay to a group. Set the sequence number of each dsplay wthn the group. Lnk at least one keypad to each group. To do ths: 1. Wth the System confguraton page dsplayed, press OK to dsplay the Confgure ths dsplay page. For unassgned dsplays (e.g. at frst swtch on), the legends Group and Number are dsplayed. If the selected dsplay has already been set up, ths shows the current group and number n the group for the selected dsplay. Vessel Type Press OK to confgure ths dsplay 2. Use the Select Dsplay button as necessary, to move the screen hghlght to the dsplay you want to set up,. e. so t s the selected dsplay. Inboard Speedboat Selectng vessel type helps us to confgure your system. Press OK to select Confgure ths dsplay Group Number Select each dsplay n turn. Press OK to confgure. Press OK to save the group assgnment and dsplay the Assgn order n group page. Each dsplay n a group has a dscrete number, and these numbers determne the order n whch dsplays are selected wthn the group durng normal operaton, when the Select Dsplay button s used. 8. Scroll to the requred number. 9. Press OK to save the group settngs and dsplay the Lnk keypad to group page. 10. If you have not allocated keypads to the group contanng the dsplay you are settng up:. Press OK at a keypad you want to lnk to ths group.. Wat untl the confrmng popup dsappears.. Repeat and for each keypad you want to lnk to ths group. Remember you can only lnk Instrument keypads to Instrument groups, and Plot Controller keypads to Plot Controller groups. 11. When you have allocated all the requred keypads to ths group, press MENU to save the group settngs and dsplay the Confgure ths dsplay page. 12. Repeat steps 3 to 11 for each dsplay. Date Format dd/mm/yy Check the nformaton, on the Tme & Date summary page, then press OK to dsplay the Tme & Date setup menu. Press OK to contnue You can change certan date and tme parameters. You can: Select ether dd/mm/yy or mm/dd/yy as the date format Select ether 12-hour (am/pm) or 24-hour as the tme format. Set the value of the tme offset to gve the requred local tme. If you want to change any Tme & Date values, carry out the Settng date format, Settng tme format and/or Settng local tme procedure below, as approprate. Headng to ether magnetc or true. Flow rate to ether US gallons per hour, UK gallons per hour or lters per hour Temperature to degrees Celsus or degrees Fahrenhet. Pressure to pound per square nch or klo Pascals. Volume to ether US gallons, UK gallons or lters Number of engnes to ether 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. Number of batteres to ether 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. Number of fuel tanks to ether 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. Press OK to see the second Unts summary page, and f you want to return to the frst page from the second, press CANCEL. Check the nformaton on the Unts summary Select unts pages, then wth the second Unts summary page dsplayed, press OK to dsplay the Select unts menu. If you want to change any data unts, carry out the Changng unts procedure below. If you do not want to change any data unts, proceed from Leavng unts setup below. Changng unts To change any data unts: 1. Wth the Select unts menu dsplayed, scroll to select the type of data you want to change,.e. Speed, Depth, Dstance, Wnd Speed etc. 2. Press MENU to dsplay the Man Menu. 2. Scroll to Autoplot calbraton then press OK to dsplay the Autoplot Autocalbraton menu. 3. Scroll to select the Drve settngs opton then press OK to dsplay the Drve settngs menu. 4. Scroll to select the Hard Over tme opton then Hard Over Tme press OK to dsplay the Hard Over tme page. 5. Measure the tme t takes for the autoplot to drve the rudder from hard over port, to hard 12 over starboard. 6. On the Hard over tme page, scroll to set the approprate tme n the edt box. The tme to drve between lmts. 7. Press OK to save the settng and return to the Drve settngs menu. End of autoplot docksde setup At the end of the autoplot docksde setup, use the CANCEL button to return to a Plot Controller operatonal page. Introducton to transducer setup Depth, speed and temperature data are derved from transducers n the boat s hull. Depth offset and sea temperature must be calbrated as part of the Docksde setup, but the exact method for calbratng these parameters depends on whch transducers are ftted: Wth conventonal transducers, the Depth offset and water temperature are calbrated separately. Wth a smart transducer, the depth offset and water temperature setup are part of one contnuous procedure. The speed and wnd functons are calbrated later as part of the Open water calbraton. Depth offsets Depths are measured from the Depth transducer to the sea bed, but you can apply an offset value to the depth data, so that the dsplayed depth readng represents the depth to the sea bed from ether the keel or the water lne. If an offset s not appled, the dsplayed depth readngs are from the transducer to the sea bed. Before attemptng to set a waterlne or keel offset, fnd out the vertcal separaton between the transducer and ether the waterlne or the bottom of the keel on your vessel, as approprate. See Fgure 2-1. Check the type and value of the offset currently appled: If the offset type s what you requre and the value s correct for your boat, press CANCEL to return to the Depth transducer menu, then proceed from step 6. Otherwse proceed from step 3. 3. If necessary, press PAGE UP to select the upper (offset type) adjust box. 4. Scroll to ether Water lne, Keel or Transducer, as requred. If you select Transducer, an offset value of zero s automatcally appled. 5.
