Fairly Academic! n May 3, A. D. 2017: The Tooth, the Whole Tooth, and Nothing But the Tooth! Soldier Mountain Ski Area Bike Trail Scoping Map courtesy of USFS! Soldier Mountain gets Smokey s (but not Mom s) OK for downhill bike trails! Mom says, You re gonna break your neck up there! So true! Mom knows best! Well, the USFS, in April, announced its decision to allow Soldier Mountain Ski Area to build 7.7 miles of non-motorized summeruse trails to allow lift-assisted mountain bike descents of Camas County s hometown ski mountain, 12 miles north of Fairfield! Whee! The plan is for 0.3 miles of beginner trail, 5.7 miles of intermediate trail, and 1.7 miles of advanced neck-snapping terrain, just like Mom warns us about! According to Sawtooth Forest Supervisor Kit Mullen, trail construction is expected to be completed over the next four to six years. The USFS also announced its decision to allow Soldier Mountain to build a new equipment storage and maintenance building on the overflow parking lot south of the magic carpet area! Soldier Mountain, located on public land on Soldier Creek, operates under a special use permit from the Sawtooth National Forest.
