Sports News from the PE Department Welcome to the Sports Newsletter for Term 3 and 4. Over the last few weeks, staff and students have been involved in numerous trips including: the ski trip to Austria; the Rugby and Netball tour to Paris; the West Bromwich football trip and an amazing trip to Twickenham for the Six Nations Rugby! So much to write about and that s not even mentioning some of the outstanding sports achievements that have taken place! SPORTS RESULTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS: County X-Country: Millie Haywood has recently been selected to represent the County at the National X-Country Championships. She was also entered into the Midland indoor championships covering 17 counties. Millie got through the heats and came 4th in the finals. It was an amazing experience for Millie. She had also been entered in the final Gloucestershire league cross country race and came 8th, the overall place for the four events for Millie was joint 4th even though she missed one in order to run in the Schools Cross Country in Wales. Amazing achievements from a very special runner. RUGBY AND NETBALL TRIP TO PARIS: The U16 Rugby and Netball teams have just come back from an amazing 4 day tour to Paris, France. They played a Netball A match against local opposition as well as a Rugby game against a very strong team from Paris. They enjoyed a site seeing trip in the Capital as well as visiting the Stade de France for a Stadium tour before the incredible experience of watching France v Scotland in the Six Nations Championships. An awesome trip with some fantastic memories! Thanks also to KB Coaches for providing the transport and the donation of free bobbly hats for all pupils and staff.
SKI TRIP TO AUSTRIA: This February break has been full of sport and this was added to by our Ski trip to Austria. 43 pupils took to the slopes in Kaprun in Zell am See to take part in 6 days of Skiing / Snowboarding. The pupils also watched an incredible Ice Hockey match, went Ice Skating, Tobaggoning and got to get their glad rags on to attend a disco with other schools on one of their last nights. A special thank you must go to Sub 32 for their generous donation of Ski Ties for all our pupils and staff. It was a superb trip and we are already planning to go back there again in 2 years time. BASKETBALL: We have almost finished our Basketball season now and we can look back at some outstanding performances and successes at District and County level. Our U13 and U15 teams have also been playing in the prestigious and very challenging South West League. This has seen them play against schools from all over the South West Region. One particular game to remember was against Millfield Private school where our U13 team narrowly lost in a very close and tense game.
FOOTBALL: The District Football season is in full flow and all our boys and girls teams have been playing in their respective leagues and Tournament competitions. Our U13 boys team remain unbeaten having won their last 3 matches scoring 15 goals and only conceding 2! Our Year 11 team are still in the hunt for a place in the A league final having won 2 and lost 2 with one more game to play. Our Girls U16 team played their hearts out to finish an amazing 3 rd in the District with Lucy Herbert player of the Tournament. Our Year 7 s have played 5 matches so far and still have their District Tournament to come and we celebrated Liam Dailey, Lewis Hicks and Blake Cowling all of whom have been selected to play for the U15 District team recently. WEST BROM FOOTBALL CLUB MATCH DAY PACKAGE V STOKE CITY: On Saturday 4 th February TK took 40 pupils to West Bromwich Football Club for a Match Day Package. This included a tour of the stadium, an indoor tournament run by West Brom Coaches, lunch and tickets for the Premiership game v Stoke City!! The game finished 1-0 to West Bromwich and some of the pupils even got to be on the pitch as flag bearers as the players ran on in front of 28,000 fans. An awesome experience!
PRIMARY SCHOOL LINKS: Hill 1 for winning the Tournament! Our Primary School tournaments keep on coming thick and fast and on Monday 30 th January TK hosted and ran a Quicksticks Hockey competition at Inside Football in Brimscombe. This involved 8 teams from 5 different schools: Chalford Hill, Bisley, Thrupp, Christchurch and Oakridge. Well done to Chalford HOCKEY: All our girls Hockey teams have now finished their friendly matches and are about to take part in their respective Tournaments. These will involve them playing against all the other schools in the Stroud and Cotswold Districts. Stand out results this term have come from the U16 Girls team who beat SWR in a thrilling game and our super talented U14 team who beat Deer Park school 5-0 in a scintillating display of attacking Hockey. TWICKENHAM SIX NATIONS RUGBY TRIP: On Sunday 26 th February TK visited Twickenham Rugby Stadium to watch England play Italy in the Six Nations. We took 40 pupils to be part of an incredible 82,000 fans all cheering for England in what turned out to be a controversial and intriguing game. England won 36-15 and all the pupils went home happy and enthused by what was an incredible experience.
THOMAS KEBLE CAREERS IN SPORT AFTERNOON On Thursday 26 th January Thomas Keble PE Dpt hosted 6 different Further Education Colleges / 6 th Forms and Institutes to help talk to our GCSE PE / BTEC Sport pupils about life after TK. These included Wycliffe College, Marling 6 th Form, Archway 6 th Form, Cirencester College, SGS College and Forest Green Rovers who talked about Video analysis for their 1 st team. The afternoon was a huge success and the 60 pupils who attended all were able to find out about the various courses and opportunities available to them beyond their time at TK. BADMINTON: winning all their matches. We have recently seen some superb results for our Badminton teams. First up was the District Championships which involved our U14 Boys and U16 Girls and Boys teams competing against the best schools in the District. Our U14 Boys team finished runners-up and our U16 boys team were crowned Champions in emphatic style The U16 team then went on to the County Finals playing against the winners of all the other Districts in Gloucestershire. They beat Gloucester, The Forest of Dean and the Cotswold winners losing only to the very strong Cheltenham representatives (Balcarras School). Tis meant they were the Silver medalists in the County. A superb achievement. We now look forward to even more success stories at TK leading up to the Easter break including our Superleague Netball trip to Team Bath on Friday 24 th March! After that we are already getting excited about our summer sports programme in the Summer term!
