Owitchway - also became fractious, reared and cast in its barrier stall and was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 1.03pm and a warning will be placed on the geldings record. All monies invested on O'witchway and Rewarding Effort to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 1.03pm: 40 cents in the dollar for the Win #5, 31 cents in the dollar for place of winner #5 and 47 cents in the dollar for second place #8. A subsequent veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 3 - ROSEMONT STUD MAIDEN PLATE - 2200 metres: One Desire (NZ) - slow to begin. Raced wide without cover from the 1100m. Near the 600m was hampered and carried wider by Shampion (NZ) which shifted out to improve.
Double Whirl - raced wide in the early stages before striding forward to take up a position outside the leader near the 1600m. Hung out under pressure in the home straight proving difficult to ride out. Grand Cayman - near the 1200m commenced a three wide run to take up a position outside the leader near the 1000m. Shampion (NZ) - near the 1100m bumped and carried in by Dashville which shifted inwards. Race 4 - RODERICK INSURANCE BROKERS MAIDEN PLATE - 1000 metres: Seewhytee - slow to begin. Approaching the 800m steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of Thirty Grand Over (Anthony Boyd) which shifted ground inwards when insufficiently clear. Hung out rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight. Van Buren Boy - slow to begin. From the 300m until passing the 250m was held up persevering for a narrow run to the inside of Woohoo. Woohoo - raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to obtain the lead near the 500m. Rider Damien Thornton advised his mount had to do too much work in the early stages and failed to finish off. Alluring Miss - raced wide without cover throughout. Rider Andrew Mallyon was of the opinion the mare had got its tongue over the bit and would advise the stable to add a tongue tie to its gear next start. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Thirty Grand Over - on straightening was steadied when disappointed for a narrow run between Woohoo and Sky Muster and as a result steadied and shifted to the outside of Sky Muster to obtain clear running approaching the 200m. Rider Anthony Boyd was issued with a severe reprimand for permitting his mount to shift in sharply near the 800m when insufficiently clear of Seewhytee which had to shift out to avoid heels. Race 5 - BUXTON REAL ESTATE BM58 HANDICAP - 2200 metres: Carbon Cut - slow to begin. Transfixed - slow to begin. Improved around the field three wide from the 1200m to take up a position outside the leader near the 900m. Rider D Gauci was questioned as to his tactics after passing the 600m when the eventual winner, Strada Saliente, was able to improve to his inside on the point of the home turn. He explained that his mount was under severe pressure and for that reason was in a position to be able to hold Strada Saliente in behind the leader, that being Galileos Pearl. His explanation was noted. Nakataan (NZ) - near the 500m was steadied and shifted to the outside of Drago to improve its position. Rider Michael Walker could offer no explanation for the performance which was
below market expectations. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg and had some post race coughing and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. A swab sample was also taken for analysis. Nippa Bleu - held up for clear running for some distance approaching the home turn. Rider Damien Thornton was fined $200 for using his whip six times prior to the 100m and in assessing the matter Stewards took into account his recent record. Galileos Pearl - laid out under pressure in the home straight. Race 6 - PRO-RIDE F&M BM64 HANDICAP - 1200 metres: High Diamonds - connections advised would be ridden further back from the wide gate; settled in a handy position on the fence. Avoid The Rush - slow to begin. Relaunch - began awkwardly and bumped heavily with Dont Go Quietly shortly after the start and lost ground. Dont Go Quietly - began awkwardly then shortly after was steadied when crowded for room between Escape The Rain and Relaunch which both shifted ground. La Ranita - raced wide without cover throughout. Savitskaya - laid out rounding the home turn enabling High Diamonds to obtain an inside run. Rider Jack Martin was fined $200 for using his whip six times prior to the 100m and in assessing the matter Stewards took into account his recent record. Effortless Power - laid out under pressure in the home straight. Written Return - rider Jackie Beriman was of the opinion that the filly had run well however due to the fast tempo of the race she elected to come back further than intended to obtain cover and further added the filly would be better suited over a distance greater than todays event. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 7 - CONNECT TEL BM58 HANDICAP - 1100 metres: Felicette - slow to begin. Finno - steadied when crowded on jumping between Exclusive Heights and Royal Lady, both of which shifted ground. Royal Lady - near the 800m steadied to avoid the heels of Cap Rocca. From straightening until approaching the 200m was held up when unable to obtain clear running.
Got The Wink - raced wide without cover throughout. Inner Strength - hung out rounding the home turn. One Faster - raced wide without cover throughout. Rider Katelyn Mallyon could offer no explanation for the performance which was below market expectations. Race 8 - RITCHIE BROS AUCTIONEERS BM58 HANDICAP - 1300 metres: Benambra - connections advised would be ridden forward from the good gate; settled midfield. Squidensquizz - connections advised would be ridden more forward today with the blinkers back on; settled three wide outside the leaders. Raced wide without cover throughout. Seguro (NZ) - began awkwardly. Over the final 50m was awkwardly placed close to the heels of Squidensquizz and unable to improve. Peg Leg Ben - slow to begin. Over the final 150m had difficulty obtaining clear running and went to the line not fully tested. Choisance - steadied when crowded shortly after the start by Walled City which shifted out. For a short distance passing the 100m raced in restricted room when attempting a narrow run between Squidensquizz and Medal Of Valour. Futures - over-raced in the early and middle stages. I Write The Songs - third placegetter; rider Adam McCabe was severely reprimanded for failing to ride his mount out fully to the winning post. On May 27 th 2016, Stewards concluded an inquiry regarding an incident that occurred at the Geelong training centre on Friday April 15 th 2016. Licensed stable hand Carley Graafmans pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct under the provisions of AR175(q). The particulars being that on the morning of April 15 th 2016 at the Geelong Racing Club training facilities and in the vicinity of the tie up stalls, Carley Graafmans spoke to track work supervisor Gary Dendle inappropriately and threatened him. Carley Graafmans was subsequently fined $500. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account her guilty plea, personal circumstances and the serious nature of the incident.
