November 21-28 Join Us at the Quarterly PTO Meeting The next quarterly PTO meeting will be Thursday, November 17 at 6:30 p.m. In addition to a brief update on what s going on with PTO, there will be several interesting agenda items that you don t want to miss: Speaker Topic: Keeping Your Kids Safe Online There will be a great program by school parent and Long Beach police officer Lt. Kipper Thomas on the topic of "Keeping Your Kids Safe Online." He will cover issues of online safety, social media and mobile phones, as well as answer any questions. If there are questions you have on this topic, feel free to send it to svspto@yahoo.com and Thanksgiving Break December 1 Christmas Blessings begin. December 3 Santa's Breakfast December 13 Lower School Christmas Program

we will forward to Lt. Thomas so he can have materials ready for the meeting. International Economic Summit The 6 th graders participating in the International Economic Summit will also give a short demonstration of their work during the PTO meeting. Note: Childcare will be available at the school during the meeting. December 14 Family Luncheon December 15 Student of the Month Upper School Christmas Program December 16 60% Day - Christmas break begins. SVS to Showcase Family Businesses Do you own or work for a business that offers products or service of interest to SVS families? Well, we want to know so that we can support you. On Thursday, November 17, we will have an SVS Family Business Expo at 6 p.m. right before the PTO meeting. Please complete and return the registration form (available on the school Website) to SVS PTO via your child's folder to participate. There is no cost, but we will have a small silent auction that evening to benefit the PTO and would appreciate the donation of an item or gift certificate for a product or service. This Week's Sanctuary Light Burns In Memory of Margaret Cuevas Last Week's Knight Winner Edwin Franco November Breakfast & Lunch Menu Do You Want to See Your Teacher as a Turkey? The annual CALB-sponsored turkey teacher contest is officially underway. If you want to see your teacher dressed like a turkey, purchase a feather for $1 to add to the teacher of your choice. For $.50, you can take a feather off of your teacher s turkey. The teacher with the most feathers on November 18 will have to wear a turkey costume around the school and during car line. Your child can put the money for feathers in an envelope marked Turkey Teacher Money. Be sure to put the name of the teacher you are purchasing feathers for or taking feathers away on the outside of the envelope. Thank you for your support! Class Lunch Times If you'd like to submit an announcement to be included in the weekly newsletter, please email ynnasrallah@gmail.com no later than Thursday by 3 p.m. Morning Drop-off Procedures There have been some questions and safety concerns regarding morning drop-off procedures. The tardy bell rings at 7:45 a.m. If you arrive after this time, you must drop your kids off in the front. If there is no teacher and/or you arrive after 7:50 a.m., you must park and walk students into the school. Students are officially tardy at 7:50 a.m. There are safety issues with dropping off younger kids at the front without a teacher there. If there is no teacher, they students must be walked in. But be sure not to park or leave your car in the front of the door. It backs up the flow of traffic. Please refer to pg. 17 of the student handbook for the official school policy. 5th Grade to Decorate Thanksgiving Boxes Students in the 5 th grade will be decorating boxes to deliver Thanksgiving dinners to those in need. If you would like to help, please stop by on Tuesday and/or Wednesday and lend a hand.

Art Supplies Needed Are you ready to get the election signs out of your yard? Ms. Tara need a bunch of them for a project in January. When the election is over, please bring your yard sign and stake to school. Any yard signs will work for this project as long as it has a stake and is the approximate size of an election sign (i.e., For Sale, Yard Sale, Garden Club, etc.). If you want it back, write your name on it. Our project will be the last week of January, and I will only need them for about 10 days. Thank you in advance. SVS to Join Catholic School Basketball League Thanks to everyone who came to the basketball parent meeting last week. There was a lot of interest in continuing the SVS basketball program, which will play within the Catholic School League this year. A flyer should go home this week with more information about the league, teams and registration. Students to Participate in Hoops for Heart SVS students are raising money for the American Heart Association while learning about their hearts and how to keep it healthy. To celebrate this effort, they will be playing basketball in the gym on Friday, November 18, at 2:15 p.m. Information was sent home a few weeks ago, but you can learn more about this program and submit your donations online. Thanks for your support! Congratulations to our Reading Fair Winners! The projects looked amazing. All of our SVS students did a great job presenting the different books they have read. You can check out the winning projects in the school library. All first place winners will move up the diocesan regional fair. New Item on the Lunch Menu Hamburgers are now available everyday on the lunch menu as an a la carte item. Check Out What's New With Carnival Let the good times roll. Carnival season is now in full swing. Both Carnival Association of Long Beach (CALB) and St. Paul Carnival Association (SPCA) are dedicated to fundraising for SVS. We encourage all families to get involved in one or both of these amazing organizations, either by working at or attending their events. Their support helps to keep the cost of tuition from increasing. A link to carnival news is on the homepage of the school s Website, so keep checking it out for the latest news and event announcements. A new order for SPCA t-shirts will be placed on November 15. If you still want one, please submit your order forms before then.

Get a Recap of the Coffee Talk on November 9. Purchase a Brick for the School Walkway Looking for a unique holiday gift for a special someone? We've got one that will last for years to come. Consider purchasing a brick with their name on it to add to the walkway in front of the school. Order forms are on the school's Website. To ensure holiday delivery, please submit your orders by November 15. Get Scrip for the Holidays The holiday season is just around the corner. And SCRIP is a great way to get your all of your Christmas shopping done and earn tuition dollars - a great way to spread the joy! Details are on the school's Website. There are over 300 merchants that you can purchase gift cards from at face value and get a percentage for SVS. Please see Mary in the front office if you have any questions or sign up today. (School code: 59D317EB4998). Order early, order often! Support our School Brick Walkway - Are you looking for a way to honor your child or another loved one? Consider purchasing a brick with their name on it to add to the walkway in front of the school. It's truly a memorable gift that will last for years to come! Download the sponsorship form. Fleece Jackets with the SVS crest are now available and can be worn in the classrooms. You can pick up order forms at the front office or download it here. Proceeds benefit the enrollment/pr committees. Birthday Book Club is a great way to support our library and remember your child's special day! Feel free to wrap a new book, preferably library bound or hardback, and have your child present their book to the school at Prayer and Pledge on their birthday! A special sticker will be placed in the front of the book to honor your child s donation. Honor a Loved One with the Sanctuary Light - If you would like to have the light in the chapel burn in honor or in memory of a loved one and have them remembered at Prayer & Pledge for the week, please submit his/her name and the date you'd like the light to burn along with a $5 donation to the front office. This is a wonderful way to honor someone special. Rewards Programs - There are lots of ways to support our school with your everyday purchases. Check out all the opportunities on the school Website. You can also help by volunteering to hearing codes from Coke Bottle Tops. Pick up a bag from the front office (instructions included) or email svspto@yahoo.com and we will send a bag of bottle caps home with your child next week. Thank you! Prayer and Pledge is held in the gym at 7:50 a.m., Monday through Thursday. All families are invited to attend.
