COOPERSTOWN MULTI CHAPTER WEEKEND As Ellen said in her President s Message the last full weekend in September turned out to be a perfect weekend for the Albany/Capital Region ASGA Multi Chapter event. There are lots of pictures for you to enjoy, Our weekend started on September 22 at Cobleskill Country Club where many enjoyed the first round of golf for the weekend.

After the round at Cobleskill it was off to registering and gathering at the beautiful Otesaga Resort in Cooperstown, ASGA gathered around the hotels fire pit for an evening of socializing followed by a number going to the Albany/Capital Region s Hospitality Room. Early Saturday Morning the mist was rising off the waters of Otsego Lake:

When the skies cleared to a beautiful clear blue with a warm sun we gathered to play the beautiful and challenging Leatherstocking Golf Course It was a true Shotgun Start: And Away We Go!!!

As competitive as the play was, everyone had to take some time to just enjoy the beauty of this place After play some refreshment on the patio before freshening up and getting ready for our banquet and the awarding of prizes And as the sun set on a wonderful day of golf we gathered for a banquet celebrating a great weekend

And the awarding of prizes: LONGEST DRIVE Cathy Zehnacker (No. New Jersey) & Gary O Brien (Albany) CLOSEST TO PIN: Noreen Matt (Albany) & Peter Weiss (Vancouver, WA.) Straightest DRIVE: Denise Rondeau (Boston) & Rick Avery (Hartford)

And our two 50-50 winners, each walking away with $125 Now for the winning teams, number 5, Noreen Matt Captain (Albany), Don Lamb (Boston) Donna Gustafson (Boston), Chuck Hanshaw (Southeast Michigan) Number 4: Ellen Riley Captain (Albany) James Miskowski (No. New Jersey) Denise Rondeau (Boston) Dave Stuart (New York at large)

Cheryl Woodin (Hartford) And First Place: Kathryn Henningson-Capt. (Albany), John Crockett (Boston), Dottie Daly (Albany), Peter Weiss (Vancouver, WA.) Some who attended played another round at Leatherstrocking on Sunday, others had gotten tickets to the Baseball Hall of Fame, the Farmers Museum or the James Fenimore Cooper house. Thanks to all of you who traveled a great distance to join us, it was great meeting new people and renewing acquaintances from previous ASGA events. Thanks to everyone who forwarded pictures, I had many more than I could use. For all of us Saturday evening was time for one more gathering around the fire pit at the Otesaga to say farewell to each other and to a fabulous weekend.

INFORMAL GOLF Despite the first scheduled outing's rain out, we enjoyed a splendid day at Wolferts Roost. Thank-you Jack Dennis and Ellen! Another day found us at the Stadium GC in Schenectady. As is our Autumn tradition we will be at the Lazy Swan again enjoying a Hamptons ambience in the Catskills. If you worked our booth at the Siena Golf Expo, don't forget to check your ticket for free greens fees on several courses in the southern tier. Correction is due to an erroneously reported late start at Fairways in last month's newsletter... the course got us started exactly at 2 pm! Keep your eye on the weather for our future outings. So many courses, so little time! This is how close Sandy came to a hole in one, she made the birdie!!!!! ... Continued from previous page American Singles Golf Association October, 2017 SinglesGolf.com/TheNextShot Will You Serve on your Board Next Year? It s an annual thing. Each chapter, whether you know it or not, is led by people, a/k/a volunteers, who take their time and make life nice for you. Each chapter has bylaws (www.singlesgolf.com/bylaws), and is required to elect a new chapter president each year and committee chair positions (golf, social, membership and communications). Other positions are appointed, e.g. secretary and treasurer. After everything s in place, your chapter should look like this: www.singlesgolf.com/organizationalchart These people comprise your Board of Directors who is ultimately responsible for making sure things run right to assure more fun, fellowship and fairways. Your chapter s bylaws require you to 1) set-up a Nomination s Committee to seek individuals to serve in the various committees, 2) have an election in October for a new chapter president and 3) have an election in November for the four (4) committee heads (golf, social, membership and communications). All new officers take office on January 1. If you re interested in serving on the Board of your chapter, please don t hesitate to speak up and become part of the decision-making process. Contact your current leaders. As always, your service to your chapter is much appreciated. Terms are for one year only but it can be a life changing event in your life. Become a leader or support your newly elected chapter leaders. A job description for each position can be located at the following links: www.singlesgolf.com/president www.singlesgolf.com/golf www.singlesgolf.com/membership www.singlesgolf.com/social www.singlesgolf.com/communication It s been said many times that the Number One job of a chapter president is to delegate to each of the four committee chairs. If a president does it all, next year, then there s a good chance no one will want to serve in that position the following year. Now is the time to start thinking about next year. Now is the time for all good members to come to the aid of their chapter. Seriously, folks, lend a hand and step up to the plate! Tauck, a 92-year-old company that started providing tours to parts of America and Canada many people had never seen, has helped ASGA plan this trip with a promise our members will thoroughly enjoy from private tours of small and historic French towns along the Seine River to the beauty of the MS Swiss Sapphire ship itself, the professionalism of the Tauck staff, to the highly acclaimed food that will be prepared for us each evening. Having taken this itinerary as a site visit in October of last year, I can personally attest to the great first class value. ASGA has special pricing. We never pay what the public pays for our multi-chapter events, whether on the mainland or overseas. (We re not allowed to actually tell you price difference, but if you go to the website and click on the COST tab, you ll see for yourself.) Our itinerary is to visit the historic monuments in Rouen, the English Channel villages of Etretat and Honfleur, Jumieges Abbey, one of the great Benedictines of France, Chateau Gaillard, Claude Monet s home and a lot more. At our halfway point on the cruise, we ll visit the D-Day beaches of Normandy.
