CELEBRATING 24 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Albany Chapter - American Singles Golf Association September 2015 President s Message By now, you have probably heard that we lost a very dear friend and fellow golfer, Wayne Coulter. He was a true gentleman with a heart of gold who was a member of our Chapter for many years. I took the liberty of compiling the feedback I received about his passing and am putting it here in no particular order. Two memories stand out: There was a time in our earlier years when we met socially every Friday night at the Callaway now known as the Blu Stone Bistro. More often than not Wayne would make the trek from Vermont to socialize and learn of the weekend golf outings. That always impressed me. He definitely met the definition of "social" and quickly became a standout in our chapter. The last time I remember speaking to Wayne was several months after he had gotten married. I asked him how everything was going and his quick response with a chuckle was: "I'm still on my honeymoon". That was vintage Wayne. Truly a remarkable one of a kind individual. He's gone, but won't soon be forgotten -- Bob Very sad to hear this. He was always a pleasure to be around, and a true gentleman. So many interests, he had a truly full life. Perhaps best remembered for his "golly that was a great shot, I like it ; rais- ing chestnut trees; travels to FL with his boat; the trike motorcycle; so many things about him were so unique. May he rest in peace, and know he will be fondly remembered with love -- John I met Wayne at an ASGA outing and come to find out, we had a few things in common. Over the years we met in Florida and I remember playing golf with Wayne and Beth, when Beth made a hole in one at Orange Grove Golf Club in Hollywood Florida. Then we all went for a walk on the Hollywood boardwalk. Often Wayne would sleep in his Van that had everything but the kitchen sink in it. Wayne was one of the best and he will be missed Joe I will miss Wayne. I always enjoyed playing with him -- Ed That sucks. But, he made it to his mid- 80 s and lived a full life full of golf, full of friends. One of a kind, in the best way. Wayne will be missed -- Jay He was the first person I met in ASGA at the Callaway Grill now the blue stone bistro. Boy Girl Boy Girl. RIP Wayne -- Helene Wayne was a great guy with a heart of pure gold -- Dick It's hard to reconcile the fact that he is gone. Here he is, only 3 years ago, when he rode his new "motorcycle" to golf at Saratoga Lake. RIP Wayne -- Beth Eagle eye for golf, ace player and what a gentleman! He truly will be missed -- Sandy ~Marian (Madam Prez) Upcoming Multi-Chapter Events (see SinglesGolf.com/events): Battle at the Boardwalk - Seaview Resort near Atlantic City, NJ. Oct. 8-11. Little did we welcome the raindrops that at least had the courtesy of waiting until the back nine. Although a few hearty souls did manage to finish, most all of our pretty much drenched players decided to seek shelter at the Ripe Tomato s warm and friendly establishment. A little libation, great food and company, and the awarding of prizes eased the day s weather woes. The following prizes were awarded based on 13 holes: First place team with 51: Jack Aernecke (Captain), Rita Roberti, Frank Munoz, Sandy Kunz Second-place team with 52 matching card: Ed Barnard (Captain), Kathy Custer, Bob Werner Third-place team with 52 matching card: Gary O Brien (Captain), Deb Ptasinski. Kathryn Henningson, Brian Wallace Fourth place team with 53: Mike Congero (Captain), Beth Lewis, Joe Candee, Flo McConville Fifth place team with 54: Bob Doyle (Captain), Yuko Kashiwado, Don Sislowski, Nancy Niles Longest drive /women Ellen Riley Longest drive men Jack Dennis Straightest drive/ women Ro Mulligan Straightest drive/ men Frank Munoz Closest to the pin /women Karen Bishop Closest to the pin/ men Mike Congero Thanks Joe Candee for selling 50/50 tickets. The winner was Joe Candee with $63. An investigation into that coincidence was suggested Ellen and Helene would like to thank all the players who braved the day. See you again October 11th at Van Patten! ~Ellen and Helene Formal Golf Schedule for 2015 October 11th - Sunday - Van Patten September 2015 ASGA Board Meeting The September ASGA meeting was held September 1st at Salty s Pub in Clifton Park.
