2016-2017 Fall Winter From studio to stage... South Bay s most comprehensive and professional performing arts program.

Welcome to Palos Verdes Performing Arts Conservatory! Here at Palos Verdes Performing Arts Conservatory, we believe in providing an environment where students continue to be appropriately challenged and build the beginnings of a life-long love of dance, music, and theatre. While performing arts programs are being eliminated in many schools and communities, students have an even greater need to develop public speaking skills, an understanding of team building, confidence, character, and empathy. Over the last 15 years, with the support of our community, we have grown into the most comprehensive, professional performing arts training program in the South Bay. Every day we hear stories of students whose lives have been changed by performing arts. Our growth as a program can been seen in hearing them hit that high-note they ve been striving for, watching the perfection of a second-turn, or bringing a character to life from the pages of a script. And it s because of their relentless dedication to learning, along with our instructors deep passion for sharing their knowledge, that the Daily Breeze awarded us Favorite Dance Studio in the South Bay for a second year in a row. As Co-Directors, it is our privilege to work with your children and to watch them grow and develop into successful individuals. Our goal is to help each child develop a strong sense of self-worth, self-esteem, and self-confidence through exploration in the arts. Joel Sluyter Conservatory Co-Director Kimberly Nicole Wood Conservatory Co-Director

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS Audition procedures vary from show to show, so refer to each production s Audition Notice which will be posted in the Education Building and at www.palosverdesperformingarts.com. Some auditions require students to schedule an appointment time. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before audition start time to sign in, have a picture taken, get an audition number, and complete all paperwork. To save time, audition forms can be found on the website and filled out in advance. A parent/guardian must attend the mandatory parent meeting at the start of the audition. Students will be notified if they are invited to callbacks. Not receiving a callback does not mean that a student is not cast in the production. Students will be provided with callback materials, such as music and/or dialogue from the show. It is not necessary to memorize the callback material. Unless stated otherwise on the Audition Notice, come prepared to dance first in dance clothing and dance shoes. After the dance audition, all students will sing individually in the order they arrived. Students may change clothes before the vocal audition. The choreographer will teach the students a short dance combination. After it is learned, students will be called forward in a small group to perform the routine. Students should prepare an audition song that fits the style of the show. It should be approximately one minute in length (one verse and a chorus is recommended). Bring sheet music in the correct key. Students may not perform a cappella or with a recorded accompaniment. An accompanist will be provided. Students should be familiar with the show as it helps through the audition process. SHOW TUITION AND POLICIES Tuition covers the costs of training, costumes, wigs, sets, props, and technical elements. Performers must supply their own shoes/tights. Cast lists will be emailed to students within a week of auditions and callbacks. Please email acceptance of casting as soon as possible. Tuition is due upon acceptance of role. Financial aid is available. The financial aid form must be submitted at the time of audition. Application for financial aid does not affect casting.
