Maleny Tennis News In the Wednesday competition, Sylvia Harker s Lorikeets went down by six games in the final match of the rounds. The team is still in second place and will meet the Mooloolaba Missiles in the semi finals this week. Barbara Williams reports that in the Friday competition, the Maleny Moovers lost by 42 games to 35 against the Woombye Sunnybees. In this competition there is no semi final. The final round will be played this week. The number 1 and 2 teams will go directly into the final. The Moovers are trailing in third place and it will require a win by the Moovers and an unlikely upset loss by the second team for the Moovers to sneak into the final. Email: gail@mavmuse.com Maleny District Sports & Recreation Club Inc 0 Maleny Rangers Soccer Club Results for games played last weekend Non Competive U10 mixed; The Maleny team had a fantastic game and held there own against a strong team, some exellent defence work by Courgar Lutze and Finn Richard/Williams. Player of the game was David McDonald. With some awsome striking by Jasper Polowyj/Stephens and Joel Phillips. Under 10s have a bye this weekend. U12boys Div2 Coolum 2 - Maleny 0U12 s boys came up against Coolum on Saturday. Our team played excellently against the top side in our draw and special mention goes to Bailey Lowe-Woodward for Man of Match and also Caelen Dwyer who played an inspiring game as goalkeeper. U12girls Div1 bye U13boys Div2 Maleny 0 Noosa 5. This was always going to be a tough match against a strong Noosa side but Maleny played like winners throughout the match. Under Coach Madhu s watchful eye the boys played great defensive football but Noosa still broke through to score. All players put in 110% to play as well as we ve seen them this season and everyone deserved to be named Player of the Week, so this week s awards were based on improvement both at training and on the field and went to Caleb, Kristian & Manikya. A big thankyou goes to Matty from U12B for playing up; once again, without him we would have had no reserve. U14girls Div2 Cooroora 1 v Maleny 1. At the start of the second half of the draw our U14 Girls were looking to better their last encounter. Coorora came to the game equally determined. In a game that included skills, spills and wills, a draw was the eventual outcome. Player of the match, goalkeeper Austyn Campbell, performed as if she was in the Australian team and even received praise from the other coach and manager on her effort. Briony Weddell was given the Encouragement Award for persistence and placement during the entire game. Mention also goes to Sophia Fowler who twisted her ankle setting up our only goal, which Ellie Furlong drove home. Another nail biter for all who watched. Congratulations girls!

Maleny District Sports & Recreation Club Inc It was bitterly cold at the Range Croquet Club lawns in Maleny last Thursday, and although croquet players are a hardy lot, both games begun were ended early. In Association, Nick Cram and Kath Smith called their game off at 11 all, and John Thynne and Neil Lovett stopped at 2 all in Golf Croquet. In that game, Neil did not put a ball through a hoop. John put Neil s ball through the hoop twice while trying to move it from in front of the hoop. Range Croquet Club Maleny Results Trivia Did you know that more people die in N.Z. every year playing Lawn Bowls than Scuba Diving Vince Carbery and Roz Pagliarino journeyed to Headland- Buderim to play in the Swiis Tournament, and were joined by Val Carbery when one of the other competitors had to quit. Vince won 6 of his 8 games, and Val won 3 of her 4, but it was Roz who was runner-up in her section. In the Golf Croquet Pennant competition, Val and Vince travelled to Caloundra to play against Bribie Island. Joined by Margaret Mourik and Adrian Prince, they suffered a heavy loss, 1-9, with Val the only winner for us. In the coming week, Vince and Nick will compete in the Caloundra tournament. Members are reminded of the meeting on June 24. For information about croquet, ring Vince Carbery (5494 2193) or Kath Smith (5499 9101). Don t forget State of Origin game 2 - Wednesday night The State of Origin is contested between New South Wales and Queensland, who have formed an epic rivalry that has seen the series produce the toughest and most skilful Rugby League in the world. Since its inception in 1980, the results between NSW and QLD have been extraordinarily even, adding fuel to the competition s success. Overall the Maroons have won 14 series compared to the Blues 12. In games won, the Maroons hold a three game advantage over the Blues with 43 wins compared to 40 for NSW. QLD have won the last four series since 2006 and are heading for another seriess win.

Last Tuesday s winners with a score of two wins plus 23 were Tom Jollow and Bas Crain. The Touchers went to Peter Duffy, Maureen Holdway and Helga Falcongreen but the Jackpot of $162 wasn t won when plus 37 was drawn. Patron, Nev Watson, was the lucky Money-Board winner. All matches played on Friday resulted in close scores with the winning score of plus five going to the Triples combination of Steve Lawrence, Eric Drew and Bob Wilson. Great to see Bob and Bobbie Wilson have at last settled in Maleny. A very warm welcome to you both. The only Sopnsors Prize winner present was Steve Lawrence who took the Lavender Fields in the Mist prize to give him a double for the afternoon. Those to miss out were:- Mal Somerville for Supa IGA now worth $380 this week, Keith Kropp for the Full Monte, Lucy Oldfield for Beechwood Bakehouse, Brian Emmerton for Live Life Villages now worth $200 this week and John Wildman for Mug of the Week. As you can see, the Prizes are really worth winning so it is worthwhile to be at the Club at 5.30p.m. on The Maleny Historical Society is a group of Maleny volunteers who wish to preserve the historical history of the Blackall Range Hinterland area. This group is headquartered at Priscilla Cottage, McCarthy s Road, Maleny. This land was donated by the pioneer Bryce family. The main part of the display is centred on the original home of the late Isabella, Phyllis and Marjorie Bryce, daughters of pioneer dairy farmer and cattle judge, Ben and Priscilla Bryce. They had lived Maleny District Sports & Recreation Club Inc Maleny Bowls Club Results Fridays for the Draw. Maleny Historical Society their whole lives in this particular residence which was then situated on land where Erowal Retirement Village now stands. It was originally called Erowal, after the property in southern New South Wales bought in 1854 by Ben s father, Alexander, and uncle William, who emigrated from Scotland. Tradition has it that it means here a while. This week will also be a quiet one with Jackpot Pairs/Triples Tuesday and Social Bowls on Friday and Saturday. Unfortunately, it doesn t appear as if we can get sufficient teams for Nominated Mixed Triples on the third Thursday of the mointh which would have been this Thursday. There a couple of dates early in July to keep in mind. Friday, July 2nd, is our Monthly BBQ and as well there will be a visit from Toowoomba Past Presidentsfor Lunch, Bowls and the BBQ. There is a sheet at the Club for names. There is also a Come and Try Day on Saturday, July 10th. Finally, my thanks to Gail Turner who did such a magnificent job of the notes in my absence that many have commented that perhaps she should do it fulltime. Also, I heard a rumour that our Chairman travelled to Yandina last week and competed in a Fiesta Day with 119 women. I m sure the poor chap would have been having nightmares ever since if it were true. The original property was first called Errowel but this became Erowal over a time, a name commemorated in Old Erowal Village in the St Georges Basin, near the original grant. The Maleny Historical Society is an affiliate member of the MD- SARC Inc and they have a particular interest in Pattamore House. Photo below: Priscilla Cottage
