STEWARDS REPORT Gosford Race Club GOSFORD RACECOURSE Weather: Fine Track: Soft (7) at 3.04pm Soft (6) Rail: True Thursday 2 April 2015 STEWARDS: T P Moxon (Chairman), M F Van Gestel, D L Carr and cadet J A Shultz LATE RIDING CHANGES: As A Hyeronimus was stood down, the following rider substitutions were approved: Race 1 J Parr on Axion Race 5 J McDonald on Another Al Race 8 T Angland on Bella Vika (mkm) RACE 1 Star 104.5 Live 2yo Maiden Handicap 1200m Real Blonde late withdrawal by order of the Stewards at 7.40am. Don Franco late withdrawal by order of the Stewards at 7.40am. Muzyka declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable the connections of the filly to view the official patrol films to ascertain whether there were sufficient grounds to lodge an objection against Axion being declared second placegetter. When connections were satisfied that there were not sufficient grounds, and the Stewards were of the same view, correct weight was declared. Was held up rounding the home turn and had to be checked passing the 400m. After being crossed by Axion passing the 100m, improved quickly onto the heels of that runner, had to be checked and shifted to the inside over the concluding stages to continue into clear running. Amalfi Scape began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with the hindquarter of Valuchy. Local Secret hampered on jumping. Hagah crowded on jumping. Passing the 900m had to be steadied away from the heels of Local Secret which was carried out by Eagle Way, which in turn was taken out by Manhattan Fever when that runner had to be eased to avoid the heels of Axion (J Parr) which shifted in when insufficiently clear. J Parr was advised to exercise more care. Was held up for clear running until passing the 200m. Manhattan Son rounding the home turn had to be steadied when disappointed for a run between Eagle Way, which was weakening, and Amalfi Scape, which shifted out slightly despite the efforts of its rider. Sebbag passing the 200m had to be continually checked when disappointed for a run between Magic Gerry and Celtic Diamond. Rider C Reith was advised to ensure there is sufficient room when endeavouring to improve into runs. Celtic Diamond laid out rounding the home turn and passing the 400m was steadied away from the heels of Magic Gerry. Passing the 200m became unbalanced when continually bumped by Sebbag which was endeavouring to improve to its inside. Manhattan Fever A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
RACE 2 Gosford City Farmers Market Maiden Plate 1000m More To Gain declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable connections to view the official patrol film of the start of the race to ascertain whether the gelding was afforded a fair start. On viewing the films it was established that shortly after the start the offside front gate rebounded making contact with the shoulder of More To Gain resulting in the gelding being slightly slow to begin. Bearing in mind the finishing position of More To Gain to the third placegetter, Stewards deemed it to be a runner and correct weight was declared. Sleek Wolf slow to begin. Cross Court slow to begin. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running until passing the 150m where it was shifted to the outside of Peripheral to obtain clear running. Our Meteor bumped passing the 200m. RACE 3 Battlefield Challenge Maiden Handicap 1100m Manhattan Road bounded on jumping and lost ground (2L). Overraced in the early and middle stages. Normandy slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance, rider apprentice K Jennings stated that the horse raced greenly throughout the event and raced like a horse that was field shy. He said that Normandy was inclined to lay in and first made contact with the running rail approaching the 600m, then continued to lay in from that point making contact with the rail on several occasions and near the 150m shifted in abruptly making heavy contact with the rail and as a result had to be steadied. He added that from this point he did not place Normandy under any pressure for the remainder of the race. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer J McNair was advised that Normandy must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. Midnight Image rounding the home turn was buffeted between Normandy and Single Hope which shifted in slightly. Calamity A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off fore leg. Cotrainer M Hawkes was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to Clamity's next race start. RACE 4 XXXX Gold Benchmark 70 Handicap 1600m Keepit To Yourself was slow to begin. Bettabet Red was badly held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight and passing the 100m was shifted to the outside of Keepit To Yourself to continue into clear running. Quartermaster was hampered passing the 100m. Esteemed Elegance held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight. RACE 5 De Bortoli Wines Class 1 & Maiden Plate 2100m Due to traffic delays as a result of a traffic accident, the following horses which were late arriving on course, were examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start: Got To Think (trainer A Turner), Not Bothered (trainer A Turner) and Zatopaz (trainer B Baker) Stratalena as declared rider G Schofield failed to arrive on course on time due to traffic delays, permission was granted for J Cassidy to be substituted. Dylan Rocks slow to begin.
Another Al was slow to begin. Zatopaz began awkwardly. Shortly after the start when struck with the whip shifted out abruptly and crowded Got To Think. Smarty Pants overraced in the early stages and passing the 1600m had to be checked away from the heels of Stratalena. Little Ted A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a poor post race recovery. Trainer B Cheers was advised that Little Ted must perform competitively in country races before it is permitted to again start at provincial meetings. Not Bothered A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer A Turner was advised that prior to Not Bothered being permitted to race again a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced and the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards. Girouette When questioned regarding the performance S Clipperton stated that after settling at the tail of the field he allowed his mount to stride forward from the 800m. He said that his mount felt like a winning chance and when placed under pressure rounding the home turn responded to his riding, however when the pressure of the race increased from the 400m his mount did not quicken and was disappointing over the final 200 metres. He added that in his opinion Girouette would be better suited on bigger tracks. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying a poor post race recovery and mild heat stress. Stable representative D Beadman undertook to report back on the progress of Girouette in the days subsequent. Ninth Chance A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 6 Pluim Gosford Guineas Listed Race 3yo 1200m Rajamani slow to begin. Soldi Domani slow to begin. Rider L Cassidy reported that after his mount began awkwardly it did not handle today's soft track conditions. Mr Bogart trainer J Pride reported that in his opinion the gelding did not handle the soft track conditions and he undertook to report back on the progress of Mr Bogart in the days subsequent. Meursault A post race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be lame in the off hind leg. Stable representative D Beadman was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to Meursault being permitted to race again RACE 7 The Provincial Championship Qualifier Class 5 1200m Power Line slow to begin. Kanguru overraced in the early stages and passing the 700m when awkward on the heels of Mana Manu shifted out and hampered Mr Entertainer. Know How passing the 1100m hung in away from Macon County and had to be checked away from the heels of Hulk Henry which shifted out slightly. Rounding the home turn had to be checked off the heels of the weakening Footy Fan. Eight Skirts laid in under pressure in the straight. Pinball Lass laid in under pressure in the straight. Footy Fan when questioned regarding the performance rider apprentice C Nutman stated that she had to make some use of her mount in the early stages to obtain a forward position. She said that when she attempted to slow the tempo after obtaining a position outside of the leader passing the
700m Footy Fan immediately came under pressure and weakened noticeably when ridden out over the final 400 metres. Apprentice Nutman added that in her opinion Footy Fan may not have appreciated the quick back up from Hawkesbury on 26 March 2015 bearing in mind that was the horse's first up run from a 15 month spell. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer W Slinkard advised that Footy Fan had pleased in its work during the week, however agreed with the explanation of apprentice Nutman. He added that he would have the horse undergo a thorough examination on return to the stables, the results of which he will forward to the Stewards. The inquiry was adjourned pending those results. RACE 8 TAB.com.au Benchmark 60 Handicap 1100m Not Doubtful suffered laceration to off hind leg en route to the course, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon on arrival on course and again behind the barriers and passed fit to start. Claradini trainer P Webster reported that the only explanation he could offer for the disappointing performance of the gelding, which was first up today, was that it was noticed that the bit was over the tongue on return to scale. Mr Webster added that he would now experiment with a tongue tie. No Equal slow to begin. Volley Of Fire slow to begin. Tennessee Hussy when the place slackened in the middle stages commenced to overrace and had to be steadied away from the heels of Just Snooping near the 600m. Bella Vika on straightening had to be checked away from the heels of Claradini (K Jennings) which shifted in slightly despite the efforts of its rider. Apprentice K Jennings was advised to exercise more care. Sravana When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, T Berry stated that he had to make some use of the filly to obtain the lead, however it was somewhat disappointing in the manner in which it finished its race off. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Cotrainer M Hawkes could offer no explanation for the performance and was advised that Sravana must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.
