Corpus Christi (2-2, 49-25) at Frisco (2-2, 40-33) Saturday, June 25, 2016 Dr Pepper Ballpark Frisco, TX 7:05 p.m. ON THE RECORD: 21-14 Home 28-11 Road 13-4-3 Series 5-1 Sweeps L 1 Streak 3-2 Last 5 7-3 Last 10 RIDERS RALLY: Alex Burg s bases-loaded double capped a four-run seventh and sent the RoughRiders to an 8-7 come-frombehind win over Corpus Christi Friday night. Connor Sadzeck made the start for Frisco and retired the first seven men he faced. This run came to a halt in the third when seven consecutive Hooks reached base. Corpus Christi scored four times on five hits, two walks and three wild pitches. A Derek Fisher HR and doubles by Teoscar Hernandez and Roberto Pena highlighted the barrage, which knocked out Sadzeck. Pena added on in the fourth with his fourth home run of the year, staking Corpus Christi to a 5-1 advantage. Hooks starter Keegan Yuhl, who was riding a five-game win streak, was touched for four runs over six innings of work. Burg s double in the sixth keyed a two-run frame which made the score 5-4 Hooks. In the top of the seventh, Alex Bregman tripled off the wall in left field against lefty Frank Lopez. Bregman later scored on a two-out, two-strike single by Nick Tanielu. Yuhl left the game with a 6-4 advantage but the Hooks could not hold it. Facing Eric Peterson, Andy Ibanez laid down a bunt base hit to begin the seventh. Ryan Cordell s one-out walk was followed by singles from Preston Beck and Joe Jackson, loading the bases with a run home. Burg turned the one-run deficit into an 8-6 Frisco edge by depositing a line drive into right-center. Conrad Gregor made it a one-run game in the eighth with an opposite field shot to left. PAGE 2 REED GETS CALL: Corpus Christi alum A.J. Reed is set for his Major League debut tonight in Kansas City, serving as the DH and batting 6th in the Astros lineup. Reed was hitting.266 with 19 doubles, 11 home runs, and 36 RBIs in 59 games for Triple-A Fresno this year. A 2nd-round pick in 2014, out of the University of Kentucky, Reed hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games, batting.362 with 3 homers, 6doubles and 7 RBIs in that span. He went 2-for-4 with a homer on Thursday. In 2015, Reed led the minors in home runs (34), RBIs (127), OPS (1.044), total bases (320) and runs scored (113), while hitting.340 in 135 games between Lancaster and Corpus Christi en route to Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year honors. The left-handed slugging first baseman is set to become the 5th former Hook to make his Major League debut this year, joining RHP Chris Devenski, IF/OF Tony Kemp, 3B Colin Moran and IF Tyler White. When Reed steps to the plate at Kaufman Stadium tonight, Corpus Christi will have graduated 83 players to the big leagues. GONZALEZ DESIGNATED: To make room for Reed, C Alfredo Gonzalez has been removed from the 40-man roster and designated for assignment. The Astros have assigned C Marlon Avea to Corpus Christi. Avea, a 22-year-old from Masaya, Nicaragua, has appeared in 4 games for Quad Cities, going 2-for-15 with a double and an RBI. NOT THE NORM: Frisco s 7 runs last night marked the most damage allowed by Corpus Christi since an 8-4 loss to Arkansas May 26. The Hooks had held the opposition to 3 runs or less 20 times in the 24 games leading up to Friday s contest. Despite the setback, Corpus Christi remains the Texas League ERA leader at 3.00. TENACIOUS TEO: OF Teoscar Hernandez went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored last night, extending his on-base streak to 15 games. Hernandez has hit safely in 19 of the last 23 contests, batting.354 w/ 21 runs, 6 doubles, 3 home runs, 10 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. The 23-year-old speedster leads the Texas League in batting (.305) and stolen bases (29). Hernandez is also tied with SS Alex Bregman for first place in hits (82) and runs scored (52).
