North Devon Netball League Annual General Meeting 05 July 2012, 7pm Minutes All teams were represented except: Gater Girls, Pat Williams, Exmoor Beasties 1. Apologies were given for Sally King, Nina Barum, Penny Collis, Gater Girls, Pat Williams 2. The minutes of the 2011 AGM were reviewed and agreed. Matters arising: a. 5b. Katrina Venner advised the county website is not up and running but is due to be shortly b. 12a. Katrina Venner reminded all teams ensure that newly registered members or borrowed members are correctly written on the results sheets 3. The Chairman s Report was given by Katrina Venner, copy of the notes attached. 4. The Treasurer s Report was given by Katrina Venner on behalf of Sally King. Copy of the Income/Expenditure account is attached. These accounts were agreed. a. Lorraine Beel Queried the Tag Rugby club payment. KV explained that this was actually the league contribution to the Netball Development Trust who use the Tag Rugby Club charity shell until their own organisation is set up. b. KV explained that the very healthy positive balance of the league funds is owing to the need in the future to pay for future court fees and maintenance. Some of the positive balance is used to offset league fees for all teams helping to keep costs down for teams. c. Gill Heavingham queried why the court fees were so high and who set them. KV explained that these are set by Park School. d. KV explained that the presentation dinner each year is also part subsidised by the league, partly to thank those who contribute to the running of and participation in the league 5. The County Secretary s Report was given by Sharon Curtis. Copy attached. SC particularly noted the following: a. Courses are coming up early next year for UKCC1 and 2 courses if anyone is interested in joining, part funding is available, Jenny Kelly should be contacted, details are on the NDNL website b. Affiliation Fees for the coming year will be 28.70 for over 18s, U18s, 18.70 for under 18s. These are made up of England Netball affiliation charges plus a SW Regional fee of 2.50, and county fee of 1. c. SC also advised that two new categories of affiliation have been created for U14s and U 11s.

6. The Umpiring Report was given by Katrina Venner as part of the Chairman s Report. Copy attached. 7. The Junior Development Report was given by Chris Farr. Copy attached. CF particularly drew attention to: a. On Monday 23rd July 6pm at Park School a meeting is being held for anyone who would be interested in and willing to help out with the junior league. Anyone who could offer any help at all, or who wishes to set up a H5 team, please come along. 8. Proposed Changes to the Rules and Regulations were read out by Katrina Venner. Copy attached. New member Lisa Hastie was proposed for election (Proposed by Lauren Bawden, seconded by Celia Maxwell) CARRIED: 39-0-0 (Unanimous) e. New member Penny Collis was proposed for election (Proposed by Katrina Venner and Seconded by Tess Gorin) CARRIED: 39-0-0 (Unanimous) 11. Any Other Business a. EN requested that all teams were reminded about scoring for the summer season, particularly to ensure that scorers did NOT use the tally system but actually wrote and crossed out the number of the score. KV added that when goals were scored in the summer league that were worth more than 1 point that scorers added these,

rather than writing all the numbers, eg if the score was 2 and a 2 point goal was scored that the scorers crossed out 2 and wrote 4, rather than writing 2,3,4 b. KV raised that last year RPs were canvassed as to how to manage the league if the number of teams grew to the point where not all matches could be covered on Monday nights at Park School. Most had said they wished to split the league matches across Bideford and Park Schools, however the lights at Bideford have to be switched off at 9pm due to planning laws so this is not possible. Lorraine Beel suggested that the winter season ran on later and that there was no official summer league, but rather friendlies were played as teams chose. Celia Maxwell suggested that the Sunday near to Christmas was used as the reserve night rather than a Monday, giving another week of play, as weather conditions were likely to be better during the day. There was general support for Sundays to be used as reserve days in order to use more Mondays for the winter season. KV advised that when all teams were registered for the winter league firm proposals would be made. The AGM closed at 8.15pm Attachments: 1. Chairman s Report 2. County Report SC to email 3. Youth Development Report 4. Income/Expenditure Account CHAIRMAN S REPORT CHAIRMAN S REPORT 2012 - no Sundays this year but still may be needed Thanks to all of the committee members. Another busy year with close to 40 teams in both the winter and summer leagues and more new teams interested in joining. We have been very fortunate with the weather and were able to finish the winter league without using any of the reserve dates in May. Let s hope we are as lucky next year!! Clubs and leagues the clubs in our area continue to develop with Langtree, Titans and Carol Anne maintaining their CAPS accreditation. Carol Anne Diamonds have kept their place in division 2 of the regional league and finished 5 th this season. Titans won the county league but could not quite qualify for the regional league div 2. They were hoping to enter the new div 3, but that is not running so they will compete in the

county again in September. Venners and Carol Anne Sapphires finished 3 rd and 5 th respectively in this county league. In our league it has been great to see the new teams / clubs coming through. South Molton Falcons have continued to progress up the tables. Exmoor, Wolves and Reeds are also on the up. Topaz and Pluto have gained momentum and no doubt have more to give. Good luck to Navigators, Gater Girls and the other new teams as they enter their first winter league. At the top end a play off was required for the first time to determine the champions. Apollo beat Diamonds in the Autumn and the scoreline was reversed in the Spring. Diamonds would not let go of their title though and stepped up another level in the play off. The junior league has continued to be run by Chris Farr with help from Tess and Ange which has once again been very successful. Chris will say more later. Chris and Ange also coached the Satellite Academy giving talented youngsters the chance to start on the first rung of the England Netball ladder. Rebbekkah Hoskin, Christina Brend... were selected for the County Academy and they will be joined by others tonight at the trials for next season. Becca Priest was selected (again) for the British Colleges team and took on the role as vice-captain. She has trained and played across the country including Northern Ireland. Coaching many players from our league have been on courses to improve their coaching skills. The recent L1 course had... North Devon attendees. A number are booked on the forthcoming L2 course and many completed their courses and assessments last Autumn. Back to Netball - The league ran a couple of Back to Netball sessions on Sunday mornings. These were very successful and one of the new

teams has come from that group. We hope to hold some more sessions from September coinciding with the junior league so please let friends know! Huge thanks to Chris Farr in particular for running most of the sessions, and to everyone else who helped. If anyone is interested in helping or bringing others along please chat to me. Schools tournaments Most schools have entered every age group and there has been a great standard. Thanks to everyone within the league who has helped to officiate these for various schools. Charity we continue to support the netball development trust through the Lyn Bonnett tournament. We have received requests for assistance with fundraising and most have been offered to run a raffle through the league so you may be asked to buy raffle tickets to support netball related fundraising events. Umpiring as always North Devon continues to develop many umpires starting from the very young. There are a number who are not yet old enough to play in our league who have picked up a whistle and some even came up to umpire at the Lyn Bonnett tournament and the recent Satellite trials. Particularly a young yr 6 who is attending a course this weekend. Lorraine Beel has led by example and we are very lucky to have someone as passionate and dedicated in our area giving her time to mentor any umpire who is keen to progress. She (and Adele for a short while at the end of the season) has umpired the National Premier League. Lorraine has tutored 3 courses this year in North Devon giving us yet another 60 or so new umpires. Lorraine, Sharon, Sally and Claire have mentored and tested many of our umpires to enable them to progress further. Rebecca Manley has passed her written for her A and is looking to take the practical next season. She, and Lorraine umpired the National Clubs U14s tournament and Lorraine officiated the final. Rebecca, Sharon, Lorraine, Adele, Lisa, Kelly, Kirsteen, Celia and I have officiated regional and/or county league fixtures (sorry if I have missed

anyone). Well done and thank you! The league cannot continue without the expertise of umpires and we hope more of you will pick up a whistle!! Website huge thanks to Elaine for creating and updating the website very regularly! It will be used to advertise events and reminders and to post messages if matches are cancelled so please use it. Olympics unfortunately netball is still not an Olympic sport but hopefully we will all enjoy what our country puts on and that some new positive sporting role models and crowned. Let s hope for better weather for this and the rest of the summer. Please don t forget to register for the winter league by 23 rd July. Finally thanks again to a great committee. We are still looking for new members to join us!!
