Document No. 129-097 SINORIX Valve Reconditioning Product Description These instructions explain how to recondition and fill 1-inch through 4-inch SINORIX valves. Product Numbers Verify that the appropriate valve rebuild kits are on hand for the cylinders that are to be recharged: Valve Size (in inches) Product Numbers Rebuild Kit 1 CPY-35 CPY-VSK1 CPY-70 1-1/2 CPY-150 CPY-VSK1.5 CPY-25 2-1/2 CPY-375 CPY-VSK2.5 CPY-560 4 CPY-1200 CPY-VSK4 Warning/Caution Notations WARNING: CAUTION: Required Tools Personal injury/loss of life may occur if you do not follow the procedures as specified. Equipment damage, or loss of data may occur if you do not follow the procedures as specified. Strap wrench Spanner wrench WD-40 (or similar) SINX 16, 17, or 18 for respective size Torque wrench with 3/8" drive Prerequisites Verify that there is a sufficient quantity of HFC227ea in inventory to complete the entire recharge of each cylinder. WARNING: Although the pressure gauge may register a Zero reading, caution must be used at all times since residual pressure may still be present. CAUTION: Before beginning this procedure, make sure the Anti-Recoil Device is installed on the cylinder. Disassembling the Valve 1. Energize the solenoid or depress a Local Manual Control (CPY-LMC) to ensure there is no pressure in the cylinder. It is normal to notice a slight pressure release. At this point, THERE IS NO PRESSURE IN THE CYLINDER. Item Number 129-097, Rev. AA Page 1 of 6
2. Remove the brass valve from the cylinder by unscrewing from the cylinder neck. Remove the valve and the siphon tube assembly and set aside. CAUTION: Do NOT use a pipe wrench as this will scratch the valve. Use a strap wrench or attach a piece of pipe to the outlet for leverage. NOTE: 1. The top plug adapter unscrews with a right hand thread. 2. There is a spring under the top plug adapter that will push up the top plug once the threads are disengaged. Remove the O-ring from the top plug adapter. 3. Remove the siphon tube assembly from the valve. 6. Remove the piston from the inside of the valve body. 4. Place the valve assembly into a bench-mounted vice with rubber inserts or heavy canvas over the teeth of the vise. (Do not scratch the valve surface.) 5. Remove the top plug adapter using a spanner wrench. Clean the interior surface of the valve body utilizing a product like WD-40, removing all of the residual O-ring lube. e. Remove the O-ring from the top of the piston. 7. Disassemble the piston. a. Place the piston in a vise or clamp. (Do not scratch the piston surface.) b. Remove the filter nut 7/16-inch from the bottom of the piston. Reassembling the Valve 1. Reassemble the piston. NOTE: See Product Numbers for valve rebuild kits. c. Be careful not to lose the steel ball under the nut. d. Remove the rubber seat from the bottom of the piston by unscrewing the retaining clamp using SINX16, 17, or 18 (to respective size). a. Reassemble the piston using new O-rings and seat. b. Apply a small amount of Parker-o-Lube grease to O-rings (CPY-G). c. Install a new O-ring on the top of the piston. Siemens Industry, Inc. O-ring h. Assemble the piston to the valve body. Make sure to install the piston with the rubber seat leading into the bottom of the valve body. FIRE0015R1 Piston Seat d. Install a new O-ring on the top plug adapter. FIRE0018R1 i. Assemble the spring on top of the piston. e. Install a new valve seat, and tighten the retaining clamp using SINX 16, 17, 18 (for respective size). Use a torque wrench with a 3/8" drive (Set to proper torque setting). Valve Size Seat Torque (IN/LBS) Retainer (in inches) 1 110 1.5 140 j. Assemble the top plug adapter. Tighten until a metal-to-metal fit is achieved. 2.5 160 4 400 f. Reassemble the valve g. Reinstall the valve body to the cylinder (if needed). Tighten until a metal-to-metal fit is achieved. Page 4 of 6 Siemens Industry, Inc.
SINORIX Cylinder Filling Pump Setup 1. Connect the pump to the agent source (example of valve for the Bulk 1200 lb cylinders from DuPont below. The blue knob opens the cylinder to flow vapor only; the red knob opens the cylinder to flow liquid agent.) NOTE: Some bulk cylinders and valve knobs may have been painted, but the position of the knobs shown in this picture is the correct orientation. a. Before placing the cylinder, reset the scale to 0. b. Record the Empty Cylinder Weight. c. Connect the Fill Manifold to the Fill Adapter. d. Press the Tare button on the digital scale. This will set the display to 0 without resetting the Gross Weight. 2. Connect the liquid line (suction hose) from the pump to the bulk storage cylinder. a. Open the Liquid Supply Valve (red knob). b. Before connecting the manifold to the cylinder to be filled, purge all air out of the pump and hoses by opening the Agent Valve on the fill manifold and the Nitrogen Valve (without the nitrogen source connected.) until liquid begins to flow. Then, close the Nitrogen Valve, and close the Agent valve. c. Connect the nitrogen source hose to the manifold. Cylinder Setup and Filling 1. Install the filling adapter to the discharge port of the cylinder. If not using a digital scale, record the weight of the cylinder with the Fill Manifold connected. e. Verify the amount of agent to be placed in the cylinder. If not using a digital scale, add the previous weight from (2, d) to the amount of agent required to determine the final fill weight. f. Open the Agent Valve and agent should begin to flow into the cylinder. g. Turn on pump (Pump equipment varies, please refer to your specific pump s instructions) h. Monitor the scale until the cylinder fill weight reaches the required weight of agent. i. Close the Agent Valve and immediately turn off pump. j. Verify agent fill weight is correct. k. Close Liquid Supply Valve on bulk agent supply cylinder. l. Open valve on nitrogen source and set the regulator secondary pressure to approx 450 psi. m. Open the Nitrogen Valve on the Filling Manifold until the pressure gauge on the cylinder reaches 360 psi, then close the Nitrogen Valve. Siemens Industry, Inc. Page 5 of 6
n. Disconnect the Nitrogen Supply Hose from the Filling Manifold. The Cylinder Valve should reseat itself. To verify the valve has closed, slowly open the Nitrogen Valve on the Filling Manifold; residual pressure will begin to decrease. If you begin to see liquid flowing out of the Filling Manifold, close the Nitrogen Valve. This indicates the valve did not reseat properly. If this occurs: i. Connect an adapter to the discharge port on the solenoid. ii. With the Filling Manifold still connected to the Fill Adapter on the cylinder, energize the solenoid with the correct voltage to open the solenoid. iii. Apply 450 psi of Nitrogen for 10 seconds. iv. Turn off the power to the solenoid. v. Repeat step m. vi. Close the valve on the nitrogen source. o. After it has been verified that the valve is properly seated, remove the Filling Manifold and Refill Adapter, then immediately install the Anti Recoil Plug. p. Monitor the pressure for 24 hours. Nitrogen will be absorbed into the liquid HFC227ea, reducing cylinder pressure. This absorption can be accelerated by agitating the cylinder, and may require multiple additions of Nitrogen to assure that the HFC227ea has reached its full saturation point. q. If pressure is less than 360 psi, reinstall the Refill Adapter and Filling Manifold. r. Repeat steps m, n and o to adjust the pressure to 360 psi. NOTE: Do not return the cylinder into service until the pressure has remained at 360 psi, (at 70 F), for a minimum of 6 hours. The installation is now complete.
