SALACOA! AUGUST 2012 Salmon Lake 2012 Annual A Great Day! Picnic Review The 2012 annual picnic was held on Saturday August 4 th. It was a beautiful sunny day. The water temperature was a balmy 79 degrees, at four feet below the surface. We had a great turnout for the picnic. We revived an old event, the dress-up relay, and continued with the old favourites (page 3,4). How did They do That! MIKE BUSHUK & MATT FILIP With a broken paddle they pulled off 1 st place in the Adult Class Race. Amazing! Great Team Work This year s success is again attributed to the hard work and dedication of many volunteers. Thank you to all the teams whose dedication of time and efforts, made this year s annual picnic possible. Our Volunteers Coles/Bushuks/Careys - crew took care of food purchases, food sales and cooking Kirkton crew - took care of the landing site preparation, outhouse cleaning, dock repair and swim platform set up Ted Filip - shuttled boaters and Frank Smits who sets up the boat rope Byers - set up signage. Henry/Harris crew - coordinated the Canoe/Kayak Race Event coordinators - Matt Saldanha, Stephanie Gillis, Cara Telfer Syvrets - fish pond and big barbecue Susan Filip, Pat McKee and Les Clark food and draw prize ticket sellers Lemire picnic coordination

SALACOA! AUGUST 2012 Draw Prize Contributors and Ticket Sales Ticket Sales Special thanks to the draw prize ticket sellers who went door to door and for those who sold throughout the day at the picnic. We apologize for not getting the ticket seller packages out to the sellers for the July 2012 long weekend. It really does make it more difficult to sell tickets if we don t launch sales during the July long weekend when the majority of cottagers are at the lake. Many thanks to Pierce Fegan, Ed Salvador, Talyn (Byers), Adam Kuttenkeuler. Draw Prize and Picnic Event Donations Special thanks to the following businesses and Salmon Lake residents for their donations. Angie Syvret - operation and donation of the fish pond prizes Joanne and Mike Bushuk - cash donation toward picnic food costs Ross and Judy Metcalf - cash donation toward award medals Pat Mckee - candy jar donation for kids number guess game Peter and Chris Kuttenkeuler - $50.00 Castle Building Centre gift certificate Pete and Clare Byer - two Haliburton Gold framed pictures Julie and John Austin of Austin Lumber - $100.00 Austin Lumber gift certificate Susan Person of the Kinmount Fair - two adult admission passes Jennifer Picken of Walsten Marina - $100.00 gift certificate SALACOA - 48,000 BTU Barbecue with side burner and karaoke machine Brian Lin of the Kinvale Restaurant- $20.00 gift certificate Mike Pope of TIM-BR Mart- $30.00 gift certificate Liz Smith of Mary Kay Cosmetics - Mary Kay Package Kelly Tucker of Chatty Kelly s- $25.00 gift certificate Angela Colangelo of Salmon Lake Sportswear - golf shirts Debbie and Ron Symington of Crystal Lake Marina - water tube Liz Smith of Mary Kay Cosmetics - Mary Kay Package TIM-BR Mart - $30 gift certificate Peter Froehlich and Shelagh Evans of Armtec Brooklin -three coolers and a fire pit Petra Beckstete of Green Earth - $150.00 in gift certificates and a JOI lighting set

SALACOA! The Great Canoe/Kayak Race Another successful regatta was held on the lake over the 2012 civic holiday weekend. The weather was sunny and warm and the winds were relatively light. This year there were a total of 13 boats, an increase over last year. Entries were split evenly between the adult, junior and kayak class, while the ladies class only had one entry. Comments were heard after the race about the fun they had and the hopes of the event attracting more competition next year. A great deal of recognition and thanks should go first, to Fran Harris. The Harris family has been coming to the lake since the 1950 s and have always been willing participants in lake activities. In memory of her husband Jack, Fran provides a prize for the participants, in addition to the medals that the Association provides to each winner of each class. Fran always has the best spectator seat to watch the race and always has coffee and cookies for everyone after the race. Much thanks should also go to the other members of the race committee who document the times, register the boats, and distribute the awards at the completion of the race. The committee includes the whole Harris clan Jane, Karen, Julie and Janet. Without their support the regatta would not happen. Terry Henry
