2018 Page 5 Chapter N2 - Humble, TX Hello my friends, Kenny & Diane Shults Merry Christmas! That s for everyone we haven t been able to tell in person. The Christmas party was a huge success as always. Dinner, dancing and lots of laughs. The food was great, so thanks to everyone that prepared it. This year there were a lot of kids and it was great watching them run around and play. The Fergusons and I might have taken the Christmas spirit a little too far, but we all had a great laugh. Dirty Bingo was a hoot this year and has become a tradition, let s see what next year s bingo gifts will bring. The night ended with our gift exchange where the theme seemed to be, knives for the guys and blankets and chocolate for the girls. Scott Gresak came by to tell everyone thanks for all the prayers everyone sent Linda and to tell us how well they worked. Linda is a true Miracle! On Sunday she suffered a heart attack and was admitted to ICU in critical condition. With a collapsed artery the odds were against her. She was getting very little oxygen while being given CPR and was recorded as being down for 30 minutes. The first step was to see if there was any brain activity. She was brought out of a hibernation state they had her in and when she woke up it was the same great Linda, we all know and love. The first miracle. Then doctors worked with her and got her stable enough to work on the artery (Open Heart Surgery) and she went through that with flying color. The second Miracle. Now Linda is home and expected to make a full recovery. The third Miracle. I believe Linda was touched by Gods hands then sent back to us and I believe our N2 family s prayers for her just might have had a hand in this. The love our chapter and this organization pours out when someone needs us is astounding to me and I am proud to be a part of it. Again, Merry Christmas Everyone!

2018 Page 6 Chapter N2 - Humble, TX Preparing for Toy-Run Season One activity that many motorcycle riders participate in this time of the year is Toy Runs for kids. Our chapter enjoys the comradery of a large mixture of motorcyclists and the excitement of the children as we roar up with our gifts. Because Toy Runs are a group riding experience, it is important to review some of our basic group riding guidelines to keep everyone safer. Here is what the Motorcycle Safety Foundation suggests: Arrive prepared. Arrive on time with a full gas tank. Hold a riders meeting. Discuss things like the route, rest and fuel stops, and hand. Assign a lead and sweep (tail) rider. Both should be experienced riders who are well-versed in group riding procedures. The leader should be aware of each rider's skill level before the ride and monitor the riders during the ride. Keep the group to a manageable size, ideally five to seven riders. If necessary, break the group into smaller subgroups, separated by a few seconds, each with a lead and sweep rider. Ride prepared. At least one rider in each group should a first-aid kit and full tool kit, and all riders should carry a cell phone, so the group is prepared for any problem that they might encounter. Ride in formation. The staggered riding formation allows a proper space cushion between motorcycles so that each rider has enough time and space to maneuver and to react to hazards. The leader rides in the left third of the lane, while the next rider stays at least one second behind in the right third of the lane; the rest of the group follows the same pattern. A single-file formation with a minimum 2-second following distance is preferred on a curvy road, under conditions of poor visibility or poor road surfaces, entering/leaving highways, or other situations where an increased space cushion or maneuvering room is needed. Avoid side-by-side formations, as they reduce the space cushion. If you suddenly needed to swerve to avoid a hazard, you would not have room to do so. You don t want handlebars to get entangled. Periodically check the riders following using your rear view mirrors. If you see a rider falling behind, slow down so they may catch up. If all the riders in the group use this procedure, the group should be able to maintain a fairly steady speed without pressure to ride too fast to catch up. If you re separated from the group, don t panic. Your group should have a pre-planned procedure in place to regroup. Don t break the law or ride beyond your skills to catch up. For mechanical or medical problems, use a cell phone to call for assistance as the situation warrants. Please note: Some Toy Runs can involve up to several hundred motorcycles. This is inherently a dangerous situation. Consider smaller events or sponsor one with just one or two chap[ters. Gold Wingers are generally better trained and more skilled in group riding techniques. Have a very merry holiday season and remember to adjust your riding to the weather to keep safe! 2018 Page 7 Chapter N2 - Humble, TX Are You Ready for Dirty Bingo? By Lynn Flournoy I'm not sure what happened but Halloween swam right by - literally this year. And Turkey time is gone when you get this. Christmas is clearly on its way and with it comes our very special N2 Christmas party. A fun part of that is Dirty Bingo. It s a great warm up to the gift swap and we all can sharpen our thievery skills. Look around for items that are new or gently used (but not for some time) and wrap them up for our game. Door prizes you didn't really want, bonus items that came with other purchases, even some of last year's Dirty Bingo prizes. Wrapping follows the Keep it Simple Rule: use gift wrap of any kind (Christmas, birthday, Easter, etc.); use the Sunday funnies or any other part of the newspaper. Please don t use ribbon or bows or other added decoration. Be sure to tape it securely as there will be some activity that could cause a less secure wrap to come lose. Box them if they are fragile or particularly small. It can get rough. One can use gift bags or even paper lunch bags but staple/tape them securely closed. Things get crazy for all of us this time of year but just keeping Dirty Bingo in the back of your mind will make this really pretty simple. I challenge everyone to participate by bringing a few goodies.

2018 Chapter N2 - Humble, TX Page 87 Billie & Steve Fleming Member Enhancement and Social Coordinators Sometimes we have questions about GWRRA and the changes we are going through. Well, the Directors had questions for GWRRA President. This is one of the questions fielded by Anita Alkire at Wing Ding in her Director s Forum: Can a Non-Gold Wing owner be a Chapter or District Director? First and foremost we are looking for good leaders. We are founded as a Gold Wing Association and would love for our Officers to ride the motorcycle that we were formed around, but leaders ride many rides and we must be mindful of that. No Member should be overlooked if they have the passion and desire to be a leader of the Chapter or District. It will always be at the discretion of the Appointing Officer and Team as to who that next leader is, but it must be a decision that is best for the Membership they represent. Things are changing in our organization and we will try to keep up with them and keep you abreast of these changes. If you have an interest in helping with our Chapter, please contact Kenny Shults and let him know of your desire to be apart of these changes. 6-Dec Diane Deloach 21-Dec Harold & Diane Deloach 7-Dec Beth Hartley 9-Dec Harold Deloach 9-Dec Shirley Rodger 20-Dec Carolyn Tice 27-Dec Linda Seligman 31-Dec Robin Smith
