National Bicycle Strategy 2014 The idea behind the bicycle strategy is to encourage more people to cycle. By giving new ideas to municipalities and other actors who would like to take part in the green transition and who wish to invest in cycling making it easier for more people to cycle on an everyday basis..

For every kilometer that is cycled instead of using the car in the city, the health effect for society in the form of prolonged lifetime and improved health condition can be measured to almost DKK 7,00 (= 0,90) The Danish Ministry for Transport, July 2014.

TRAFFIC IS PART OF CITY LIFE The target is a liveable, sustainable city. A city is not just about the environment. It s also about social sustainability, quality of life. Our vision is that a city is a place where people can see and meet each other. Too often the objective of urban planning seems to be traffic flow, traffic is not the target. Traffic is part of city life, not the other way around. Helle Søholt Partner, Gehl Architects

Each time we increase our cycling by 1 %, we reduce carbon emissions by 16.000 tons In 2012 the inhabitants in the Capital Region cycled a total of 3,5 mio. km/pr. day (25% increase since 2007) 1.200 km. = one less paid sick day. 1 million fewer paid sick days due to cycling DKK 1.5 billion (= 200 mio.); this is how much the Capital Region saves every day from cycling in the region ( + additional the same amount in tax revenues for the State and municipalities) 09-02-2017 Sted / side 51
