BE THE REASON THIS SEASON Ahead of the 2017 Christmas holidays, the Calgary Flames Foundation and the Calgary Flames launched the Be the Reason this Season campaign to expand its reach into the community with a holiday initiative that gave individuals and families in need a helping hand. The campaign focused on Calgary Flames Foundation charities and families impacted by raising funds and also stimulated an online share campaign around paying it forward during the holiday season. The campaign included six different families who received significant gifts from the Flames and the Flames Foundation from a private performance at the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, a house renovation, a service dog, a vehicle, a down payment for a mortgage and a year of groceries, to a trip to the Philippines.

During each Flames home game, Hamonic invites a child or families who have lost a parent unexpectedly, to attend a game and meet with them afterwards. The Northern Project is a program that sees indigenous children from the Canadian territories visit Calgary for a weekend on an all-expenses paid trip courtesy of the Hamonics. On three separate occasions this season, the Hamonic s hosted and paid for deserving families trips by working with Hockey North to receive nominations for kids that deserved the chance to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity.
