PS PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT PURPOSE AND SCOPE This standard gives instructin n selecting, prviding, fitting, using, strage and dispsal f Persnal Prtective Equipment (PPE) and applies t all persns wrking at r visiting Laing O'Rurke Wrkplaces. It des nt apply within ffice envirnments that are nt under cnstructin. All risk analysis, assessments and wrk methd statements are t be cnducted and cmpiled with full cnsideratin f the hierarchy f cntrl with preference t Eliminatin r Substitutin cntrl. PPE is the lwest frm f cntrl and shuld always be used in cnjunctin with ther higher rder cntrls. Where PPE is chsen as a cntrl, training in the fit, use strage and maintenance f the equipment is t be prvided t all persns using it. MANDATORY PPE The minimum mandatry PPE fr all Laing O'Rurke wrkplaces is: Hard Hat Hi-visibility clthing / vests Glves Lng sleeves Lng Pants Medium Impact Safety Glasses cmpliant t AS1337 Ankle High Safety Ftwear - lace up in rail crridr Wrkplace r prject specific reductin in the mandatry PPE standard must be apprved by the Hub Safety Bard. ADDITIONAL LOCAL CONTROLS

PS Persnal Prtective Equipment (Rev 1 180619) Sectin 2 Any specific PPE fit, usage, strage and maintenance requirements must be briefed t all ptential wearers All individuals required t use PPE must be suitably trained in the use, wearing, strage and maintenance f PPE A recrd f the name f the persn PPE is issued t, items issued and replacement histry must be kept in a signed register. An agreement fr regular cleaning must be signed and abided by. The wrkfrce must nt be asked t wash cmpany issued veralls themselves. All PPE must be signed fr and replaced nly n a new-fr-ld basis SAFETY EYEWEAR Where prescriptive spectacles are required, a range f medium impact prescriptive eye wear with plycarbnate lenses and side prtectin is available. Fr LORAC emplyees, the cst f such prescriptive spectacles is reimbursable in line with the Business Expense Plicy. Where nrmal prescriptin spectacles are available nly with glass lenses, a variety f suitable ver-glasses and visrs must be wrn If the necessity fr higher level f eye prtectin is identified during risk assessment, prtective eyewear with the crrect level f prtectin fr the task must be prvided t and used by thse expsed (including individuals perfrming the task as well as thse in prximate vicinity). The eye prtectin prvided must als be cmpatible with ther specified items f PPE and with prescriptin lenses where applicable. Duble eye prtectin in the frm f glasses/gggles and a face shield will be used fr activities that generate flying particles such as grinding Eye prtectin cleaning statins must be prvided at all wrksites HAND PROTECTION Hand prtectin/glves are t be wrn by all emplyees, staff, cntractrs and visitrs n LORAC wrksites. All hand prtectin/glves must cmply with Australian Standard 2161. Fr general wrksite tasks, glves with resistance prperties t abrasins, cuts, tears and punctures must be used Glves must be chsen with care. Bth wrkers and management are expected t inspect their glves fr damage and replace them when the material is wrn. If the necessity fr a specific level f hand prtectin is identified during risk assessment, hand prtectin with the crrect level f safety fr the task must be prvided. Specific hand prtectin must be inspected and where wrn r cntaminated, they must be replaced n a new-fr-ld basis. SAFETY FOOTWEAR Wrk bts must be prvided and wrn in preference t gum bts where pssible All safety ftwear, including gum bts, must incrprate impact resistant te caps and pierce resistant mid-sle prtectin t Australian Standard 2210 Occupatinal Prtective Ftwear The ftwear chsen must be apprpriate t the task

PS Persnal Prtective Equipment (Rev 1 180619) Sectin 3 Where clients disallw the use f rigger bts r elastic sided bts, ftwear with higher levels f prtectin must be agreed t and abided by SAFETY CLOTHING Basic hi-visibility garments are required n all LORA cnstructin sites and nn-ffice wrksites. All hi-visibility clthing and/r vest must cmply with Australian Standard 4602. Hi-visibility clthing fr night wks must be fitted with 50mm reflective tape All LORA clthing must be lng sleeve and lng trusers t prtect against UV expsure All embridered badges and lgs must cmply with the LORA style guide Railway cmpliant range hi-vis garments are available fr rail sectr wrk and must cmply with Australian Standard 4602 (day/night use). Reflective design is dependent n state requirements. Wet weather wrk-wear, dispsable veralls and a Prban flame retardant biler suits must be used where wrking cnditins necessitate Prban fire retardant wrk-wear is OK t be washed cmmercially with synthetic pwders but retarding prperties are destryed by il staining. Depending n yur type f wrk, this culd be a risk requiring prmpt dry cleaning. Task specific clthing such as spats, chaps, leather cats, dispsable veralls must be suitable fr the task and wrking cnditins SAFETY HEADWEAR Safety helmets must cmply with Australian Standard 1801 and be regularly inspected and replaced where there is damage, cracking and/r where expiry date has been reached Hardhats are nly t be wrn with the peak facing frwards Hats/caps/beanies must nt be wrn under safety helmets. Chinstraps must be used when wrking in high rise structures r windy areas. HEARING PROTECTION Nise mnitring must be cnducted t assess nise level (db rating) at wrksites prir t selectin and prvisin f hearing prtectin. Hearing prtectin prvided must be adequate t prtect frm the nise level f a wrksite. All hearing prtectin must cmply with Australia Standard 1270 Acustics Hearing Prtectrs Operatives must be trained in the crrect use and fitting f hearing prtectin Bxes f ear plugs will be placed in strategic lcatins arund the site. Hearing Prtectin must nt be shared as it can spread infectin and disease. RESPIRATORY PROTECTION Where wrksites expses peple t dust, fumes r vapurs respiratry prtectin must be prvided and used Respiratrs must be fitted prperly. Safety Advisrs must be engaged t prvide advice n qualitative fit testing. Persns required t wear masks r respiratrs r self-cntained breathing apparatus must be clean shaven.

PS Persnal Prtective Equipment (Rev 1 180619) Sectin 4 Where psitive pressure respiratrs are required, an adequate supply f charged batteries must be available The type f respiratry prtectin must be suitable t the task undertaken as identified in risk assessments UV PROTECTION UV prtectin may be required if identified by risk assessment Wide brims fr helmets Lng sleeves rlled dwn and secured at the wrist Sunscreen - SFP 30+ DISPOSAL OF PPE Any PPE that is likely t be cntaminated with lead dust r asbests must be: Sealed in a cntainer befre being remved frm the lead prcess r asbests waste area Dispsed f as sn as practicable at a site authrised t accept cntaminated waste RESPONSIBILITIES EMPLOYER: Prvide the PPE t wrkers at the wrkplace, unless the PPE has been prvided by anther emplyer Ensure that persnal prtective equipment prvided is: Selected t minimise risk t health and safety Suitable t the nature f the wrk and assciated hazards Suitable size and fit and reasnably cmfrtable Maintained, repaired r replaced t ensure that the equipment is clean and hygienic and in gd wrking rder Used r wrn by the wrker, s far as is reasnably practicable Prvide the wrker with infrmatin, training and instructin in the prper use, wearing, strage and maintenance f PPE Ensure, s far as is reasnably practicable, PPE used r wrn by any persn ther than a wrker is capable f minimising risk t the persn s health and safety, and the persn uses r wears the equipment i.e. visitrs WORKERS Use r wear the PPE in accrdance with any infrmatin, training r reasnable instructin by the emplyer Nt intentinally misuse r damage the equipment Infrm their emplyer f any damage, defect r need t clean r decntaminate the PPE
