Message from the DSR President Here we are in the middle part of June 2014. I hope all of you are enjoying the summer. It was good to get our 2014 Mother s day Car Show behind us for this year. I want to give a personal thank you, to all of you that made this possible. Especially all of the sponsors for their support. Without them it would just about be impossible to put the show on. Mr & Mrs Don Benson (DJ Express) did another fine job with the music & keeping all informed of the day s activities. Ross Sloan's son in law, David Jerrel took care of the photography. What some Great Shots he took! Thanks David. We were blessed with the Mulherin Home folks who really just added a lot of joy to all. Don't think for a minute they don't know how to party to the music. To add a little extra we had according to reports the longest New Cadillac Limo in the State of Alabama in attendance. Once again this year we were asked to help with some transportation for The Distinguished Young Women of America (Junior Miss). This will happen Saturday June 21st. Jim Henderson's Trolley will be involved along with the Antique vehicles. The Young Ladies will be transported from Springhill Baptist Church to The Museum of Arts on Museum Dr. We have been working with Jason Cannon with Hooters at 3869 Airport Blvd. helping them to start a Cruise In on the 4th Saturday of each month. The first one will be on June 28 th from 5:00 pm until 8:30 pm. DJ Express will be supplying the music and activities. So make plans to come and support this event and help spread the word. Our monthly meeting will be on Thursday, June 26th at 7:00 pm. Make plans to attend and we will see you there. It s been a long time since By Patt Paquet DSR had such an appreciative group of people for a display of automobiles than on Saturday, June 14, 2014. Carrington Assisted Living & Nursing Home extended an invitation for the club to bring cars for an early Father s Day celebration for all those men who were fathers, uncles, grandfathers, etc. All of the gentlemen residents who were able to go outside on their own or with assistance from the staff enjoyed a trip back in time from the mid 1960s to the late 1920s. A fair number of the fairer sex also had a go at looking over the display. We were treated to a very tasty light lunch that provided an opportunity for visiting among ourselves while catching up each other s news. Seems the Fullers have been on another trip to Michigan that sounded very enjoyable. Our next-door neighbor joined us with his motorcycle. He is a Desert Storm veteran and a number of fellows at Carrington delighted in recalling their youth through stories of how they had good times with motor bikes. The two hours we were there went by quickly but the Activities Director assured us we would be invited back again. Providing vehicles were 2 Fullers, 2 Paquets, 1 Pendergrass and 1 Sloan along with guest, Lance Robinson. DSR Sparkplug, March 2014, Page 4

Note was made of a cruise-in at Dawes Church on June 7, 2014 at 2900 Dawes Road. Herb Thoms, webmaster, reported request from the British Broadcasting Network to hire a Chevrolet Bel Air to be used in a movie filming a road trip from Charlotte to New Orleans, and driven by an actor.
