When questioned regarding her riding from the 400m until passing the 200m when racing behind Money Clip and in particular the reason for shifting back to the inside of the runners that were shifting wider on the track. Christine Puls stated that when racing behind Money Clip her mount did not travel well and as the runners in front of her were continually shifting out wider on the course, she elected to shift back to the inside of those runners. Once she elected to shift back to the inside the gelding began to improve into the race before being disappointed for a run between Piccolo Miss and Sovereign Duke which resulted in her having to steady her mount before shifting over the heels of those runners to obtain clear running. Stewards interviewed trainer Jim Cerchi Jnr via the telephone as he was not present at the race meeting, and he stated the instructions issued to Christine Puls were to follow Money Clip which in his opinion was the horse to beat in the race and allow her mount to finish the race off.
