From the Governor, Brothers and Co Workers, as we found out in June, life without AC is no fun and it leads to some unpleasant comfort. We do not adjust controllers or have the bartenders adjust them, because they are set at their most efficient settings, which saves the lodge money every month. The stopper for the front door has been re-installed. Please remember the stopper allows you to hold the door open for short periods of time, minutes not hours. We had our 1 st Joint Orientation last month and we welcomed five new members: John Hancock, Rich and Betty Shoemaker, Sandy Owen, and William (Bill) Bainbridge. Please extend a welcome to our new members and make them feel at home. The next Orientation is scheduled for Tuesday July 31 at 7pm in the Social Quarters. So come out and remember why you joined so many years ago. We have a busy calendar in July, starting with the 2018 Moose International Convention on July 11-15 in New Orleans, a Cub Scout car wash on July 21, District 1 Meeting in Suffolk on July 22, a Concealed Carry class on July 28 and the 2 nd Orientation on July 31, not to mention our weekly and monthly activities. So be sure to look over the calendar for all the coming events/functions. We are starting a signup sheet for bingo. It s in the Game Room on the bulletin board closest to the restrooms. This year the 4 th of July is on a Wednesday and bingo has been cancelled. If you have a project/idea that would improve our lodge, bring it to the attention of the Board of Officers. We are looking for projects/ideas that Moose International could possible provide us a grant to make it happen. In closing, we all know the rules in the Social Quarters/Game Room. The bartender (Manager on Duty) has the authority, via the House Committee, to handle all issues regarding proper decorum. If an individual is asked to stop their current disruption they are required to abide. If it continues they could be asked to leave the lodge and premises. Remember the best solution is to not to partake in these activities in the first place. If required and the bartender feels the issue needs further attention it can be submitted the House Committee for further review and investigation. Either way, the bartenders are responsible for upholding the decorum, as well as our wellbeing and safety, so help them maintain proper decorum when you are in the lodge. Fraternally yours, Robert Logan Governor Senior Regent article Wow, July is already upon us and man has it brought the heat! We had a great June and enjoyed some fun activities including our paint party and family karaoke/luau event. We also had the Independence Day picnic and movie night. Watching Captain Underpants under the stars was a great way to bring in another new month. As a chapter, we received our Moosehaven Fishing Pier plaque for the chapter s donation of $500.00 to the rebuilding efforts. It was so nice to have Past Governor, Peck Seader visit to present the award to the chapter. By the time you are reading this, it should be on display for everyone to see at the lodge! A big congratulations goes to Susan Whitehurst for her recognition as June s coworker of the month. She can be seen around the lodge often working to help the chapter with our functions and is a pretty regular face at bingo as well. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL LOOM MEMBERS AND CO-WORKERS WHO HAVE JULY BIRTHDAYS Page 2 of 8 Downloaded from www.virginiamoose.org Posted: 7/10/2018

Sr. Regent continued... July 12 th -15 th many members of the chapter will be in New Orleans for the Moose International Convention. While we are away, Sports/Activities Chairman, Sarah Jones will be having her jitney/game party featuring baked ziti or baked chicken. Please come out and help her to make the event a success. Your donations of game prizes, side dishes and your time will be most appreciated in order to make the event a success for her and the chapter. Also, while the board is away, any help with bingo would be appreciated in order to make the bingo sessions a success. We are excited for the many events we have coming up this month for our coworkers, LOOM members, and families to take part in as well. On the 21 st, we will have a surf in movie out back along with an H2O day out back. Bring the kids out to play in the water and watch Ferdinand with us. That will be a great night for fellowship and fun. There will also be a family movie night in the Social Quarters on the 27 th to see Paddington 2. As always, enjoy your summer and be safe in your celebrations and travels! Dates to look forward to: July 9 th - Audit 6pm July 11-15 th International Convention July 12 th - Jitney/Game Party 6pm July 21 st - Surf in movie/h2o day featuring Ferdinand 4-9pm July 22 nd - District at Suffolk July 24 th - Friendship 7pm July 27 th - Movie night 7pm Paddington 2 July 28 th - Concealed Carry Class July 31 st - Joint Orientation 7pm Summertime is always the best of what might be. - Charles Bowden Movie Night at the Lodge Is your Family enjoying our Family Movie Night on the Second and Fourth Friday of the Month. Moose 898 Dance Happy July from Moose 898 Dance Who likes to dance or just get out on the dance floor and enjoy the music? Stop by our Moose 898 Dance class. Due to the 4 th of July holiday, we will meet on the 2 nd and 3 rd Wednesday of the month instead of the or our usual 1 st and 3rd. (July 11 th and 25 th ) ALL Members and potential members of ALL skill levels are always welcomed. Classes start at 7:00pm and end around 8:30pm. We are usually there by 6:30pm for those who want a little extra practice of older dances. Come out to make friends, laugh, and get some exercise while you learn a few dance steps. We lead the class, but the members are the ones who make it run. If you would like to know more about what is going on in class, watch videos of dances and keep up to date on class and lodge events, look us up on Facebook at Moose898dance. Sean and Kathy McAllister (KNS Entertainment DJ/Karaoke) KNS Entertainment is schedule for July: DJ: July 20 KJ: July 21 Higher Degree Friendship meeting on June 26 went well. The Tides game didn't work out this year cause it is the same time as the International Convention.. Maybe it will work out next year. Still looking for ideas that everyone would like to do and community projects. Thank you to everyone who brought in #10 cans of food or the food closet. It was well appreciated. The College and Friendship Scholarship winners have been and will be announced real soon. Friendship is hosting a Sunday Game party on August 5th for the Friends to receive their degree and also to help with the cost of our $500 Scholarship for anyone who is going to go to college or technical school, or online. The next Friendship meeting will be held on July 24, in the dining room at 7 pm please bring snacks I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday for the 4th of July. See you soon. FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR: Greetings Brothers and Co-Workers, I hope you enjoyed all the events for June. As always, there was something for everyone. Did you make it to the Independence Day Picnic on Saturday June 30? If not, you missed a lot of fun. Good times, good friends and good fellowship. We continue to look for more ways to serve our members, so if you have any ideas, please contact me or a Board member. There has been some interest in a day trip to MGM Inner Harbour Casino. If you think you might be interested, contact me. If there is enough response we will plan a trip, possibly a Saturday or Sunday. We are very close to having new carpet in the Social Quarters and a new floor in the Annex. Also plans are being made for the Bingo Hall floor. Things are being improved all over the lodge. Do you see a project that needs completing? The Moose International Membership Campaign Moose on a Mission is in full swing. If you sponsor a new member from now thru July, you will receive double Member Reward Points. Remember, it s only $40 for Men and $32 for Women. Also, the Lodge has a Membership Campaign where you can win MooseBucks. Don t forget to remind those members that you enrolled to pay their dues when they come due. Our first of 6 Joint Orientations went very well with new members enjoying the Orientation film, fellowship and snacks. If you haven t attended one, the next one is July 30 at 7:00 PM I want to thank the Portsmouth Moose Lodge Moose Riders for their hard work at the Hampton Veterans Hospital Picnic on June 23. They put in lots of hard work and lots of hours to plan and run this event. Again, Portsmouth Moose shows the Hampton Roads Community that we care. We know how to give back.
