NOVEMBER 2005 CVSC SKIZETTE PAGE 3 President s Message W hat a great time we had at the annual Auction Night. The funds raised ($6,127) will go to making this year a great year for the membership. I want to thank all of you who donated auction items and all of you who bid on them. Special thanks go to Dave Silva who put the items together, Jim Gartland who kept track of who purchased what, and Tucker Hoffmann, our great auctioneer. We have a couple of parties coming up that I know you will want to attend. The first Wednesday in December, Dec. 7 th, is our Christmas party. Make sure you sign up with Pat Green for this wonderful opportunity to share the Christmas spirit with your fellow Club members. We have a flyer in this newsletter giving you the details but I want to add that we will also be offering wine with dinner. The bus trip to Heavenly is not going to happen. I only had five interested parties out of 40 needed by October 30. To avoid the $1,700 cancellation fee we canceled the trip. However, don t miss out on our Tahoe Cabin Party. Sign up now. The party is for the weekend of March 4 th and 5 th. The cost is $25 per person for lodging on the 3 rd and 4 th, and dinner on Saturday March 5 th. For those of you who have their own lodging there will be a $5 charge for dinner only. The party will be at the Sitzmark Cabin and will be limited to the number of beds available. I believe the cabin sleeps 20. We will also be using the Siegfried condo which sleeps 10. This weekend is for members only and is intended to allow us to get together on the mountain, ski together as a group, and experience the cabin and condo facilities. Again, sign up now by contacting Erlyn Lucas for the Cabin or Kathy Johnson for the Condo. In closing, by the time you read this we will have had an interesting time at the Halloween Party. I ll try to tell you about these events in the next newsletter. Volunteering to have fun Walt Johnson SkiZette Policy NEWSLETTER DEADLINE: 22nd of the month Articles submitted by this date will be included in the following month's newsletter - space permitting. PAGE 4 CVSC SKIZETTE NOVEMBER 2005 Club News Ski cabin news The CVSC Sitzmark ski cabin in the Tahoe-Donner area near Truckee will open on Thursday, December 1. This is a great opportunity for comfortable and economical lodging in the North Tahoe area. Cabin application forms are printed in this issue of the Skizette, and a complete description of the cabin and cabin rules was in the October issue. At present, we have about 25 members. We can comfortably accommodate up to 45 members, so there is lots of room left. If you want information, cabin photos, or application forms contact Lloyd Chase, 925-447-3659, or skisailloyd@comcast.net. For anyone who is unsure about joining the cabin, we are allowing prospective members to come to the cabin free of charge on opening weekend, Dec. 2, 3 to see for themselves what a good deal it is. We will have a dinner potluck on Saturday, Dec. 3. If you want to take advantage of this offer, you must contact Erlyn Lucas at erlynlucas@yahoo.com for a room reservation. Consider This Hi there! Lift Tickets purchased through the BAC discount lift ticket program will be available to CVSC members at the December meetings: on Dec. 7th at the annual Christmas Party at the Sequoyah CC, and on Dec. 21st. Please contact me to make alternate arrangements if you can t attend these meetings. I will do my best to distribute tickets as early as possible as I know you are anxious to hit the slopes! Don t forget to check out early season pricing at the resorts, which are sometimes competitive with the discount ticket prices you have paid. If you have web access, the BAC site (skibac.org) is a quick and easy way to link to most resorts and check this out. Click on Ski Links. See you at Don Jose s in November and on the slopes! Meanwhile, hope you re having fun. Best regards, Paula Kinahon 415 983-7145 (day) 510 357-6147 (evening/weekend) Paula.kinahon@mckesson.com From Membership: Hey gang, membership renewal is continuing on. If you haven't done so, get your application into me before December. Also, don't forget to sign the release form on the back. (I've caught several people who didn't. It's not official until that's done). We can still use some more people to help out on the phone committee. If you are interested let me know, Thanks! P.S. Sorry Phyllis and I didn't make the auction. I heard it was standing room only, and we broke the record for money made for the club.
