The Tigers represent the Nittany Lions fourth straight Atlantic Hockey opponent. TRIP ALONG THE ATLANTIC The Nittany Lions (1-2-0 vs. AHA teams) are opening the season with four straight games and six of their first seven contests against teams from Atlantic Hockey. Penn State, which previously played Army and Air Force to start the season, will also play Robert Morris (Nov. 1) and Sacred Heart (Nov. 8). LAST TIME VS. RIT Goaltender PJ Musico turned aside 40 shots and forward Max Gardiner recorded a goal and an assist as Penn State spoiled RIT s homecoming game with a 3-2 victory in front of 10,556 fans at Rochester s Blue Cross Arena Oct. 20, 2012. Forwards Casey Bailey and Curtis Loik also scored for Penn State. SCOUTING RIT The Tigers enter the weekend at 0-3-1 after finishing 0-1-1 in a weekend series with Clarkson Oct. 18-19. RIT fell to the Golden Knights, 4-1, in the opening game before scoring two third-period goals en route to a 3-3 tie on Saturday night. PSU DROPS PAIR TO AIR FORCE The Nittany Lions fell to 1-2-0 on the season after being swept by Air Force in a two-game series at Colorado Springs, Colo., Oct. 18-19. Defenseman Luke Juha led Penn State with two points (1g, 1a) over the weekend, while Ricky DeRosa and Eric Scheid also scored. STEADY SKOFF Dating back to last season, goaltender Matthew Skoff is 7-3-0 in his last 10 games. Four different Nittany Lions scored, including David Goodwin and Eric Scheid, who scored in their Penn State debuts. Sophomore Matthew Skoff made 25 saves. ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS Redshirt junior defenseman Nate Jensen etched his name in the Pegula Ice Arena record books as the first player to score in the facility. Jensen s slapshot through traffic 3:02 into the first period gave the Nittany Lions the early 1-0 lead. FRESHMEN SHINE Several freshmen shined in their Penn State debuts vs. Army Oct. 11, 2013. Forward David Goodwin led Penn State with a goal and an assist, while linemate Zach Saar tallied an assist. Forward Dylan Richard and defenseman David Thompson also logged significant minutes in the victory. GETTING IT DONE EARLY In the team s first game, sophomore Curtis Loik tallied a shorthanded goal for Penn State, which only scored three shorthanded markers last season. The Nittany Lions scored their first shorthanded marker in their eighth game in 2012-13. MEANT FOR EACH OTHER Since being placed on the same line against Fredonia State Dec. 11, 2012, Casey Bailey (9g, 8a), Max Gardiner (1g, 12a) and Taylor Holstrom (8g, 8a) have combined for 46 points to lead the Nittany Lions. WELCOME HOME Penn State opened the 5,782- seat Pegula Ice Arena with a 4-1 win against Army Oct. 11, 2013. The arena was brought to fruition through an $88 million donation - the largest in University history - in September 2010 from Penn State alumnus Terry Pegula and his wife, Kim. TIME TO GO B1G The Nittany Lions will begin competition in the Big Ten for the league s first season. Each team will play the other five schools four times - twice at home and twice on the road. The Big Ten championship will be held March 20-22, 2014 at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn. B1G/HOCKEY EAST CHALLENGE Eleven teams from the Big Ten and Hockey East will compete in the inaugural Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge. Thirteen games will be played with six games at Big Ten schools, six games at Hockey East schools and one game at a neutral site. LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON Freshman Zach Saar s father, Brad, is a Penn State alumnus and was a member of the Nittany Lions 1982 national championship team. LINKS TO HAPPY VALLEY In addition to the Saar-PSU connection, Eamon McAdam s sister, Sarah, also earned her degree in Happy Valley. DAY TO REMEMBER Freshman Eamon McAdam became the first Penn State studentathlete with ties to the University to be taken in the NHL Entry Draft. The Perkasie, Pa., native heard his name called in the third round (70th overall) when the New York Islanders selected the goaltender. The 2013 NHL Entry was held June 29-30 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

BACK TO THE BIG STAGE The Nittany Lions will return to both Philadelphia s Wells Fargo Center and Pittsburgh s CONSOL Energy Center for the 2013-14 season. Penn State and Vermont, which played to a record 19,529 fans last season, will face off in the second annual Philadelphia College Hockey Faceoff Oct. 26. The Nittany Lions will then head to Pittsburgh for the Three Rivers Classic Dec. 27-28. Penn State will play Robert Morris in the opener before facing either Boston College or Bowling Green. EYES OF A NATION Penn State will appear on national TV at least 12 times (34 percent) during the 2013-14 season. The Nittany Lions will appear on the BTN at least seven times, the ESPN networks three times and NBC Sports Network twice. TOUGH ROAD AHEAD Penn State will face six opponents, including three Big Ten foes, ranked in the preseason USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and USCHO.com polls.
