GO GREEN FOR GOD S CREATION Go Green for God s Creation is the theme we are using once again this year in order to bring awareness to our call to stewardship. Tomorrow, Friday, September 24th, students may be out-of-uniform with a small donation, which will go to our Grandparent s Day fund. We also ask that each student bring in an EARTH FRIENDLY LUNCH. This means that very little trash will be created with lunch, and what is brought in can be recycled or composted. Please note that the café will be closed, there is no Café lunch. Thanks for your participation! St. James Catholic School Weekly News In Loving Memory Volume 2010, Issue 8 September 23, 2010 We would like to thank the Mojica Family for donating an AED machine in loving memory of their niece, Natalie Anna Thowe, who passed away in April. Natalie attended kindergarten at St. James for the 2006-2007 school year. Natalie loved life and took every opportunity to help others. We know she would be pleased that this life-saving device, located in our concession stand area, has been placed at St. James in her honor. SCHOOL RESTAURANT NIGHTS Each year St. James School holds optional restaurant nights as opportunities for families to dine and meet with each other, while supporting our school as we earn a portion of the sales during these restaurant night events. Students and parents are encouraged to attend as they can help earn their class a special pizza party from Cici s or a McDonald s treat. We thank our local restaurant sponsors and our families in advance for supporting St. James School! Please update your calendars with the following dates: October: Tuesday, October 5th: McTeacher Night Thursday, October 28th: Cici s Pizza Night December: Thursday, December 16th: McTeacher Night January: Thursday, January 27th: Cici s Pizza Night February: Thursday, February 24th: Cici s Pizza Night March: Thursday, March 24th: Cici s Pizza Night April: Thursday, April 28th: Cici s Pizza Night May: Thursday, May 19th: McTeacher Night HOT ON WHEELS! Thanks to all the families that came to this years first skating party! It was a blast and a success! We hope that you had as much fun as we did, and you will plan on joining us for our next skating party on Tuesday, November 30th.

Strategic Plan for Catholic Schools Please don t forget to mark your calendars for the school meeting for parents on the strategic plan. The meeting will be held on Thursday, September 30th, at 6:50 PM in the social hall. We would like at least one parent from each family to attend this informational meeting to hear the plan that will be in place for the 2011-2012 school year. Please R.S.V.P. to Vicki Fischer in the school office at 781-4428, ext. 211. For those parents who need childcare it will be provided. Please call Vicki Fischer in the school office to make your reservation so we may plan accordingly. Thank you. ARTIST OF THE WEEK Sophie Cissell: Third Grade Project: I Spy A Color Wheel Objective: The third grade class reviewed the color wheel and learned about a new color family called the intermediate colors. Sophie and her classmates were to create a drawing that would include a 12 section color wheel-showing the primary, secondary and intermediate color families. Sophie was to add her color wheel into her picture, so that the viewer would need to I Spy the color wheel. Lastly, she chose the media she wanted to use to add color to her picture. Be sure to look closely at her picture. You might spy more than one color wheel! Great job Sophie! Did you know that Cinderella has a long lost twin brother named Bob living in the same kingdom with his own wicked stepfamily? The separated siblings have enlisted the services of the Fairy Godmother, the Godfather, and two enchanted gerbils to help while on their way to the exclusive royal festivities of Wychwoodunder-Ooze. Bob has his sights set on Prince Percy s all-kingdom baseball game, while Cinderella eyes the birthday gala for Princess Petunia. When the two strangers disappear at midnight after Cinderella hits a game winning homerun, the search is on to find the feet that fit the glass slipper and the muddy cleat! This hilarious musical send-up of Cinderella will delight actors and audiences alike!! The Middle School has begun preparations for the annual musical. This year we are presenting Twinderella, The Musical on Tuesday, November 16th, and it will be a big hit! This year we will have two performances on the 16th, a day performance at 9:00 AM and an evening performance at 6:50 PM. Participation is required for all Middle School students as it will be a large part of their grade for the 2nd quarter. EVERY single Middle School student WILL have a part in the play, either a speaking role, non-speaking member of an ensemble group, doo wop group or the subjects of the kingdom group. There are 31 speaking parts this year so we are excited to see all the wonderful talent our Middle School has to offer. Roles will be revealed on Monday, October 4th, so more information about lines, costumes, props and such will be coming home after that. 2
